David´s Sketchbook

You went down a nice path, eliminating all small weaknesses bit by bit.
I´d be very interested in your workflow in the cheek and mouth area, because the skin has such a great look. I´d love to use a similar kind of look on a velociraptor im working on…

Very cool thing :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

nice poly paint and details are incredible. :+1:

Thank you guys.

ruhebitte-I sculpted the basic form, then I masked it using a skin alpha and trying to follow the form of the cheek.Don´t mask it thinking in the small details, this mask is to sculpt the bigger folds.Once the skin is masked I sculpted with the Inflate brush and the Claytubes brush without an alpha then inverse the mask and sculpt with zsub, for this there is a fantastic brush called Dam_Standard,search it in the forum.
Then , when the bigger folds are ready, you can to start to add the finnest details using skin alphas with the standard brush at the dragrect mode or how you like more.
Sometimes I can´t mask very well using and alpha because the result is very blurred and using sharpen doesn´t works because I lost a lot of detail.I´m sure that playing in the alpha palette you can do this, but what I do is mask one time and then I go to the Stroke palette and hit Replaylast some times until I like the mask.
I hope you understand my explanation because I know my english sucks.Sorry.

awesome work and your english seams spot on too !! :+1: :+1:

Hey AWESOME stuff! I love the astronaut hand, very nice detail!

What shader are you using for these renders? Are they ZBrush renders?

Keep up the amazing work

Beautiful detail work! :+1:
Was that arm ripped off by the creature on the previous page?

I think that it’s 2 weeks.

AGH!! By far one of my favorite characters of the LOTR trilogy! Could you please share your process and/or any progressive pics you may have?! Great work! :+1: :+1:

Thank´s zber2.Mental note:I have to update it before 2 weeks for not fill with trash the thread.

Skadalilama-Thank you.I only have clay renders like these.Really they don´t show the progress very well.
About the process…I started it in 3ds max.I made the helmet base and then I took it to ZBrush.
The head basemesh is one that I made in zbrush some time ago.I adjusted the proportions in Zbrush and then I sculpted it.
Then I used Topogun to make the basemeshes for the jacket and the cape.I took it to Zbrush to sculpt some levels of subdivisions.I go back to level 3 or 2 of subdivision and exported it to unwrap the UV´s maps in UVLayout.
With the UV´s maps ready I can paint alpha maps in Photoshop and use they to mask by alpha in Zbrush to sculpt the details.

This is the process more or less, anyways the model still needs more work. It´s not finished.
