David Barrero/ My recent works

Very awesome image and execution! She turned out excellent!

I have a question about your workflow in your personal works if you have the time:

I notice, you display the clean wireframes on many of your pieces;
Do you build a basemesh in another 3D suit then do a subdivision style workflow?
Or do you do a dynamic sculpture and perform retopology?

Hi Takai, glad you like it :). I sketch initially everything using dynamesh from a basic sphere. Depending on the character i can block roughly some parts in external programs like maya or softimage if it’s quicker for me. When I’m happy with the sketch in zbrush I retopo everything manually to make it look clean and ready for animation.

thanks!

Hi David, are you a God by any chance, this is so great, what do you use to render, I like Keyshot which is what I use, but it is a bit limited in my opinion for real control of environments and mood etc. You may have mentioned this already so sorry if i’m double asking.

Hi blckgold, thanks for your comment, most of characters here are rendered with Redshift, a recent gpu renderer. Keyshot is an amazing tool, but agree with you, feel more confortable with render passes in Maya or Xsi.

Cheers!

love your style of sculpts, keep up the good work!

Great model and expression. Your work is awesome!

Also, thanks for mentioning Redshift. I’ve never heard of it before but it seems to be great for rendering your cartoony style.

Hello everyone, I’ve been quite busy for the last months but managed to finish this character inspired on a design by talented Jessica Madorran. Hope you like it

Looks great!

Look super great. Nice character concept. Do you plan to create to Bull?

You avoided adding the crotch bone?
Very sweet character David:+1:

hahaha :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Great stuff David.

thank you!

Seriously love the character!

Amazing work! I’m just wondering if you would be willing to share some insight behind your sss rendering? I’ve been tweaking values all day without getting even close to recreating this beautiful result. Granted I’m in Renderman not Redshift but I would think I could get close. Stunning work David!

Hi Danny, sorry for the late reply! Yes, skin shading can be a pain. I used to have lots problems back in the days when I was using mental ray or arnold. Lots of variables and not artist friendly. Redshift just made my life easier. Just playing the basic Sss shader with a few tweaks to the scatter radius and the reflections. It works just fine combined with the usual 3 separate textures for the diffuse, sub surface and scatter. Hope that helps, thank you!

Hi everyone, just finished my latest character, Goku trying his new kame hame ha. Always loved the cartoony style of the early dragon ball episodes so it was a lovely character to work on. Hope you like it!

The dog is incredible! I am curious as to how you got the harness on the dog to fit so snug on him. Its like the harness is too tight and he’s about to bust out of it. How did you do that?

Beautiful, nice and clean models well executed. The kind of works that makes me come and visit again Zbrushcentral.

Hello again, just managed to finish this new character inspired on a design by Jennifer Wood. Hope you like guys it
