Thank you Kokoro!
I committed all of your suggestions to his face. I 've been beefing up his muscle and tendon areas for better transitions between his larger volumes. Here are some of my latest hours of sculpting his legs back and abs.

Cheers. Comments and Critiques welcome.

I beefed up and re-proportioned some of his limbs for a more natural silhouette. I started sculpting and texturing the environment he’ll be walking on as well. Comments and Critiques are welcome.

This guy is being printed at three feet tall by a 3d printing company for promotional purposes. I might finish paint job as well now that I know the essentials. Cheers.

I’ve made some progress with diffuse maps and eyebrows and thing. I also started doing some Vray skin tests which I’m not yet happy with . The hair is going to be a bear to do right but Paplander’s tutorial should help me with the dreadlocks. Any comments and critiques would help.Basq-withHairTest.jpgBasq-ref.jpg

I started a sculpt of Lady Mary Crawely from Downton Abbey. I was really inspired after I saw a Downton Abbey Costume Exhibit in Delaware over the Holidays. Comments and Critiques are Welcome. Any fans out there?

Here’s an Anatomy and pore update for Lady Mary from Downton Abbey. I’m still not happy with the likeness. I know there are male Downton Abbey fans out there so don’t be shy. I just got the Anatomy for Sculptors book which is awesome. I also ordered 3d totals anatomy figures both the male and female figures. I’ll be in business to get my chops up before my first job.

Comments and Critiques are welcome if anyone is out there. Cheers!

Any likeness critiques for her face would be great! Her face has changed so many times I might go nuts. Photoshop-ed hair for look Dev. Fibermesh is a pain in the but for this haircut.

Very close. You have to work on that chin a bit.

I would say, her nose and especially her mouth is too big and the whole faceshape needs to be more oval less square…

Thank you Teyon and Jake Rupert. I’ve made the changes to her jaw line nose and eyes. Her front and profile proportions match up exactly I think the three qaurter viewed forms are what’s going to make or brake this portrait so far. I also started the hair using Yuri Alexander’s fibermesh tutorial which seems to be the best so far. OH! I just got the 3d total anatomy models and they 're great. I highly recommend them for their affordability and accuracy. Comments and critiques welcome.

It’s coming along. I think the mouth is smaller in the three quarter view. Not sure if it’s an expression or just her mouth (which I have always thought as a bit…pert). Give it another look. Also, while the chin seems the right size, the transition into the face seems a bit harsh. Not sure how possible this is for you but try softening the transition area when viewed at the 3/4 angle. Compare it to the one in the photo and it should pop out to you where the shadow in your sculpt implies a harder change.

Edit: Also the actress’ eye shape seems more square in the inner lid, with a bit more thickness overall as well as a larger or more defined lacrimal area. Bit of trivia: Besides Downton Abbey, she was also in that recent Liam Neeson airplane movie.

I think you are doing really well and getting closer, but there are still a number of proportion issues that are holding back the likeness:

  • Michelle Dockery has a longer upper lip, and her mouth is definitely not as wide as your sculpt. The corners of her mouth (the oral commissure and the adjacent cushion of tissue) need attention to reflect the gentleness of the form. The vermillion border of Dockery’s upper lip forms a distinctive rounded arch, and that should come through in your sculpt.

  • The nose is close, but Michelle Dockery’s nostrils angle upward more. Notice that the lower margin of her columella (the cartilaginous pillar between the nostrils) is actually above the lower margin of her alae (the lateral walls of her nostrils). This is not the most common arrangement, but is distinctive to her appearance. Your sculpt reverses this.

  • Michelle Dockery’s jawline is distinctive: she has a slight underbite (or prognathous jaw), and the sweep of her jawline back to the angle of her mandible is strong. I think your sculpt needs to be a smidgen wider at the angle of the mandible, and you need to smooth the transition from her chin to her cheek…

Thank you again Teyon, and NWoolridge! I recently did a poly paint over and some tweaks to the chin and tear duct transitions as well as other things. This is my fifth attempt at women’s hair. I think curves in maya might be easier to handle with her haircut. Practice haaha. Cheers. BodyProgress.jpgPortwith-hair.jpgsideview-mary.jpg
