Comic Book Character Sculpts

Thanks! The Captain Marvel is for Randy Bowen’s company and he was the first guy to give me a shot at doing pro work in the statue business. You kind of need work to get work and Randy is VERY gracious about giving untested talent a first chance. The Mephisto I did for him was the gateway sculpt that I still hear nice stuff about to this day. I also got (and still get) a lot of inspiration and encouragement from posting here:

The Shifletts are amazing sculptors and great, great guys. They run a very cool community online and I recommend checking it out if you already haven’t.

Besides Randy, the best thing to do is hit the convention floors with your portfolio, start to build a network, and tactfully email the heck out of art directors…without bugging them too much…AD’s are your life line in this biz so treat 'em right;)

I just wanted to post a link here to a related Q and A I just did for CG Channel:

Awesome! I look forward to seeing more of your works,…

Here’s another interview I did, this time for Statue Forum

You deserve Joe !!! Congratulation Bro !

I’ve created a public facebook page to showcase my work. It will have behind the scenes updates and hopefully tutorials and demos as time permits.

Check it out and give me a “like”…if you like it that is!!!

Thanks and take care

This is a Green Latern Movie Guardian bust for DC Direct. It’s a combo of existing assets and me but I feel involved enough to be able to post. A lot of times when you get scans, game, or film models you wind up resculpting a lot if not all of it to match the intent of the specific product, be it a toy or statue.

Had a blast going through your website: beautiful 2d drawings and traditional sculpts!!! (to my suprise, my son actually has a real physical copy of one of your digital sculpts -> Iron Man I’s Iron Monger!)

This is the Rick Grimes I did for McFarlane Toys last winter that they showed at Toy Fair.

Thanks, fellas.

This was a while ago…I’ve got a gig rolling now that hopefully is a whole new vector for me artistically and technically that I will show when I can. I’m trying to get away from the super clean and stylized rut that I’ve been in and just go all in with detail, energy, and expression…commercial work or otherwise…I need to up my game dramatically. The beauty of this new medium is that it constantly forces you to take inventory of your skills as they need to keep pace with all of the changes and advantages the technology offers. I feel like I haven’t even begun and look forward to every session of sculpting I can get in. There is so much awesome talent here and I learn every day from watching my collegues and friends raise the bar with each new post.

This is something I sculpted last spring for Dark Horse Comics, Flemeth from Dragon Age 2. I worked from reference provided by Bioware and a file of the head they also provided. Used the latter as template for the structure of head but resculpted it from scratch. The prototype made its debut at SDCC this past summer.
