Cloudrider's Sketchbook WIP (First Post) (Nudity)

Here is a non-symmetric sketch, I am not really happy with this sketch especially considering the effort involved. Also you can really tell that a photo reference was not used, as there are problems with the muscles being flexed even though there is no or less weight on them. In addition there is simply problems with the anatomy in general that I am working to improve on.

To reiterate the main problem I had, was I had initially sculpted a t-pose I liked, but after posing I had to smooth it down and re-sculpt. Often I would find it still did not look right or was not dynamic, so I would have to smooth it back down and re-sculpt. Part of the problem could be my inexperience with Zbrush and anatomy in general. Regardless here it is. LokiFrontPosed.jpg

I decided it was time to study anatomy again. I still have a lot of work to do, but here is yet another fresh start. I will post the new female soon I hope. It is sort of amazing how you notice details as you continue to practice. Every time I think I have done a good job I come back a week later and I can only see the mistakes. I suppose that is the process, of getting better.

This is a small update showing some recent work making a scifi spacesuit with for one of the models I am working on. This is the under suit and plan on adding armor over top.

I mean, sculpting is going fine. But you need to take a closer look at your anatomy.
So… Use photo ref more :p… Or look at some anatomy plates

Keep up the work

MJ- Thanks critique, I am only working from real photos now, and have ditched the idea of 3d models or comics as reference for now (maybe for inspiration).

As inspiration it can be superb. But where you are now, I would stick to real life ref. Until you get more comfortable working with the anatomy.

I recommend looking at some of Gotfried Bammes stuff, he has some good books

Recent work, just my first pass, after I took this renders I noticed the shoulders needed to be more smooth and rounded, etc. NebretWIP.jpg

I wanna give you some criticism and see where you go from there.

Hes Pectoral major to his Deltoids is a too sharp transition smooth it out to a flowing skin.
His trapezius is a bit more sharper in the reference, shows a bit more edge to it.
And after that break the symmetry in your mode up the veins and the muscle shape, flow.

Thanks Converse for the Crit, I spent a few more hours trying to make those adjustments. I am still not completely satisfied with the form, but I will keep trying. NebretModo.jpg

A less shiny version. NebretModo2.jpg

Here is a small update on sculpting plus I was playing with Modo to get some SSS chops. NebretModo2.jpg

Looks chocolaty and delicious. Why no shadows?

Great sculpt. And Modo rules.

:+1:

Probably because I do not know what I am doing, and may have turned them off. I was just working the shader tree trying to adjust the parameters to get some SSS. Ultimately I think I had the SSS depth off by about an order of magnitude. Because it began to look correct after I adjusted that and set the transparency back up to around 90%.

I simply thought the amber material gave me the best chance of understanding how to implement SSS in Modo.

not bad man, Im kinda confused about anatomy and proportions but understand it is stylised. From my point of view i would go for more precision of how the muscles looks and where they are.

Im not telling its bad but I feel somthing not right  and now Im not able to expres it. Anyway still hundreds percent better than me, you know

Keep going

Thanks for all the comments, it does help to get feedback. I decided to stick with symmetry until I was sure I had the form and gesture the way I wanted it. I compared the model to some more photos, and shortened the thighs, and corrected the angles of the knees. I changed the deltoids to indicate where they attach to the humerus. I am done with this model for a while, and will probably start over on a new project. Cheers. (hopefully some hard surface stuff)

hello
your work is great, if you just change a few errors in the anatomy … so few notes to change
1st - the knees are little low
2nd pair of second-abdominals are smaller
3rd-hand and head a bit small
4th - The ears are a little too far back

good luck and your work is nice :+1:

I have not been able to do much modeling as of late, I have upgraded my computer and switched to Mac OS. So there has been some adjustments. Anyway I started a horse, and here is WIP. I am less familiar with horse anatomy so I imagine I will need to make further refinements. The first render is modo, and the second was in Zbrush.ModoHorse.JPG

Quick update, mostly playing with the render settings to get an SSS render. I plan to finish this model up next. I have included a beauty pass and the SSS, pass. BAB.jpg

Here is an update of the full body, I did not spend much time on the renders. There is an SSS pass with a preview @70 % on top, composited in PS. I still have tons of anatomy to finish. I am using Jamie Eason the fitness model as a reference, in case the anatomy looks slightly off. I have thus far focused on the torso and head, and I plan on addressing the issues with the legs and arms next.

My work!
