I just wanted to ask if u cud show us the preocees of how u started with low poly and how u created the normap map for it !

dustbin1_uk - Hey man - thanks! Yep - I got my version of ZB3.5R2 finally!! LOVE IT!! Altho - i havent been able to check it out properly yet - been too busy with work… ugh! But hopefully I can thoroughly check it out soon… wut’s the deal with goZ btw? Is it working yet?

nightwalker_j - Thanks man - red around the neck/clav are for the knarly skin there… it’ll be further developed as i progress on the textures - that was just the base colours i was laying out…

Yea - u hit the nail on the head with the backstory - he’s a military genetic/cybornetic black project to create a super-soldier… I think I’ll post up the back story on here next time so people can get a better feel for the character…
The skin tone - I’m still playin with - but leaning towards making it slightly violet tinted - but I still want to keep the human element in there to show that he was at one point a normal guy…

whateverhappens - Thanks. Pretty much patch modeled the low cage over the high poly version and then used xnormal to make the normal maps.


Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the feedback!!!
I’ve been pretty busy with life and work… so haven’t had a whole lot of time to work on this recently… got a couple freelance jobs now… hehe… so yea - here’s the small update on the textures… pretty much finished the base textures - now starting to dirty them up and add some wear and tear… Still quite a bit more I want to do with them and really make them seem worn and maybe add some blood & mud, etc. Also have a couple more tattoos in mind - but need to design them first… hehe

Anyways - lookin forward to ur feedback as usual!:sunglasses:

Very COOL Character! :+1:

Looks great. My only beef is with the boots. I dont know if its the front / toe section, but something looks a little disproportionate. Otherwise nice detailing and texturing.

Chindian, I m an XSI user i ,want to learn modeling in MAYA , how easy is modeling in maya and which is better?

Wow! Adding that glow really makes him look mean!

So ATM, no looks like Go-Z is due later.

Blender3D (the studio I use… it’s free and I’m poor!) is not supported by GoZ at all and may not be for some time. As Blender is open source there are some licensing issues that Ton and Pixologic are trying to work out. So I may not see GoZ for a looooong time, if ever. Unless I suddenly stop being poor and get my hands on Maya or Modo. :wink:

But enough of my whining! 3.5 rocks, this model rocks! You make me very jealous! :slight_smile:

XxDarkMessiahxX - Thanks… I think maybe it’s camera distortion? I’ve been rendering with a pretty wide angle… hehe - I kinda like the feel of it… But to me the boots seem fine. I kinda like it as is…

whateverhappens - Personally I prefer XSI’s modeling tools. But ultimately - you can do the same things in Maya that you can in XSI… it all comes down to user preference… the programs are just the tools… the artist brings the skill. So don’t get too tied up in which program is better… (Altho XSI’s M tool is awesome! hehe)

dustbin1_uk - hehe - thanks a lot man!! Aww - shucks - no goZ yet… :confused: Oh well - 3.5 is awesome so far anyways! Really lookin forward to when 4 comes out… I’m sure it’ll be incredible… If only we can get texture layers in ZB now… hehe.


Hey folks… so I haven’t updated in a while - so I thought I’d just give you a peek of the textures now… they’re almost done - just some final tweaking, seams to fix, teeth to paint and a couple more damage/burns/splats and I think I’ll call them complete! hehe…

Gonna start rigging him up… and hopefully have some of my animator colleagues to do something cool with him.

Anyways - looking forward to your feedback as usual!

Teeth are waaaay to bight IMO, though I guess you’re going to work on that?
There seems to be a problem with the UV edges on your shoulder and boot top?

But yeah man, this is still awesome and I’m still really green with envy. :wink:

Koyazzman - Thanks. Used Maya for most of the unwrap - I think I may have used Unfold3D on some parts too… but mainly just all in maya. I’ll post some caps of the maps once I’m done…

Ok so I finally finished up on the texturing for Rampage… I’m pretty happy with it so far… next step will be to rig and animate - I think for now these are the final textures. Hope you like!

Looking forward to eventually rigging and animating him - however I think for now I will have to leave as is… as I am trying to put together a new 2009 reel to start my next rounds of applications to studios, etc… Looking for a position as a 3D Modeler/Texture Artist.

So please - if you know of any openings or opportunities - PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

IT looks awesome…but u need to work on the specular map bro…right now its very dull so it seems like normal map is not doing much job here…because we know that normal maps and specular maps are so much related…so put some love on the specular map…have lots of variation from metal to skin and u can add slight blue tone to the skin with little specs of sweat.basically idea is to pump up the specular map so that all the awesome normal details are more visible…:+1:

Very cool! However I think the two greens that of the gadgets and that of pants, don’t go well together. Just imo.

Looks great Thaddeus! Really looking forward to seeing this beast animated :smiley: Only crit I would have would be that his left hand looks a little sparse compared to all the awesome detail on the rest of him, otherwise congrats on another sick model! You need to have him fight the creature from your VFS reel hahah
