Bm.I.P Bear-man in Progress

nice work so far.

try to take some human references to have a right anatomical proportion.
bwt keep it up

Hi man,

I´m new using ZBrush and I´m now training modeling with 3DSpheres… Can I ask you how to add eyes after finishing your model? I´m asking ´cuz your character´s eyes seems to be ZSpheres, am I wrong?

And congratulations, I guess it´s very good.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.
You have some good pointers and quite some insights I overlooked, thanks.

Now that i look back to it, I have to say it looks more catlike than like a bear  I was never good at naming things even when I was a child.
Still the thread says Bear-man in progress, so it’s going to become a bear…man.

I’ll roll him back a few steps, use some example pictures and I’ll see if I can do it.

Here’s the original face I created and then distorted to get the bear…cat…man whatever…

I think i’ll keep him low poly until everything is well in place and fitting, the snout and ears should become like a bears’ the eyes and cheekbones should stay somewhat close to a humans…
I’m going to try to achieve it through this face, if that’s not working for me, i’ll start over from scratch

If been woking on my model, though not quite finished yet, it’s getting closer.

I had some great tips from my girlfriend, and I think it is paying off. After rejecting some of my earlier models, which looked more like a fat dog, a pig and a monkey(?) to her, she finally agrees this one looks the most like a bear yet.

Though I value my girl’s opinion a lot, I would like to get the insights of some more experienced Brushers.

As I said it’s quite from finished, the wrinkles are the result of pulling and pushing and have to be taken out, the ears and eyes need some more work, and I have to see it fresh after a day or two to get a more neutral perspective.

anyway, this is what I got so far

This is such a beautiful model. it’s coming together fantastically.

It has such a soft, cute, innocent expression.
Great work. And it sooo much resembles a bear.

Great Job Bimm… :+1:

Still working on my bear.

It’s getting more cartoony, but that’s not a problem, I think.
Tried to add some basic colouring (panda style), just to see what it would look like.

As of now, I have no idea what to do next.
Tonight I’m going to work on it some more, I’ll see then.

Is it possible to get some fur on the skin with Zbrush? Looking into that next.

(hmm… sorry for the telegram style comment  )

cool bears i like the 2nd and 3rd ones although the first has so huge ears and the last is weirdly cartoon like…

How did it go from looking like a realistic bear to a cartoon style bear?

Its still looks cool, but i liked to previous model better…

Hey Matt,

I’m sorry,
I put my model away for a few days to get a fresh perspective and I found him all wrong. I tried to tweak him a bit, because the anatomy of him just didn’t look and feel right (too many undistinguished lumps in his face that I couldn’t explain correctly).

After hours of tweaking this cartoon-form came to life, which I thought was nicer.

I find making a cartoon-style model much more easy then a realistic model, I’ll have to do some more anatomy study before I know how to get a more realistic head.

So have no fear, I haven’t given up on my goal to make a bear-man. I just don’t know how to do it correctly yet.

groetjes,

Bimm

no worries, its still cool and very cute

OK, changed it back to a more realistic version, did some basic coloring, and that’s about it for now.

I like them all! Great subject and nice to see something fresh. Great work.

Hi all,

I know i’m a bit early this year, (though not as early as most stores).

I F’d up my bear, wasn’t supposed to happen but I seized the opportunity to create a Christmas card out of it.

Have a nice Christmas in about a month

Pilou

:+1: First, nice modeling pal, good work.
:bulb: Here is my point. It looks like a panda, not a bear…Emm…yes panda is a kind of bear. What do you think? If you replace the color brown to the black and set white color to the nose and eyes.
And I think you need to add some hair to this panda man or bear man, whatever…it could be better named it panda man, in my opinion.
Expect your next update:+1:

Thanks guys,

Well I guess he kinda looks like a panda bear (or even like a fat dog, Pilou  ), just to see how he would look I’ll try to change the colours soon.

As for the hair, if I had any clue as how to do that, he would be furry all over.
I’ll have to dig up some tutorials on the forum to see how to do it. (does adding hairs make a model more heavy in terms of computing power? or can you only add decent hairs after you snap the model to the canvas (right lingo?))

I’m going to do some research.

I’ll keep you updated

Really cool, i like very much the idea of a bear-man. I agree that the serious modelling was my favourite, now that you painted I feel like the tip of the nose looks a little doggish, too round i think, … would suggest to take a look at some bear pics…

anyway it gives it a funnyer look, more cute
