thx to you too, interesting image…i use 3ds max sometimes too, could u make a tutorial for displacing in 3dsmax like that Oliver video ? would be interesting , if u have some time of course
I’ve installed a script by marcus suggestd by Stone3D for printing large size documents…it’s fantastic, try it (see links etc on my thread)
I found that script before you told me as I was lurking your thread, but thanks any way… I’m not very good at tutorials and don’t have the software for it either, I maybe able to put something together with pictures and instructions…sometime
Well this 1st one was just a test…to see if I could even do it at all…hopefully I can come up with something interesting in the near future…Am putting up another using inverse maps
to displace in zbrush same uvs just inverse alpha mapping… Deke
Same model in zbrush for a quick test of the uvs and maps…

the method is valid under any app that has a descent UV editor.
The most important is to have a way to align the unwrapped quads to the geometry of the texture.
Horizontal and verticals is what helps.
Any curves can be done by curving the topology. Loops can be separated UV islands aligned horizontally/vertically to the geometrical pattern.
3dmax, I don’t know much but I remember an impressive UV plugin there.
blender was always great on UV editor, the follow active quads method is the key. (especially on UVing/texturing shirts, tartan like patterns. You all know what I mean)
Thanks Michalis , helpful hints, am still trying to learn the uv editor in max…
meanwhile here is tonights wip of a ship I’m working on just one arm so far… old age make me slow… Deke

FANTASTIC BLUUUUUUUUUE
Just saw for the first time your work with these uv driven sculpts. Very interesting. I know I can search thru the entire site to find the answers but maybe you would give a detailed explanation of how you did just this last one. It would be great and thanx in case you do it.
Woa … That one looks awesome!
Cheers,
David
Definitely awesome Blue but I think its a high tech horse shoe! Works as a spaceship also Damn cool
Looks sweet as!
Hey!
Sorry for the delay but have not been able to use the computer due to storm damage…

your best piece to date
Thank you, High praise coming from you and your amazing talent… Deke
But I must thank others also, Michalis and Mealea and many more… You know who you are !
Your best indeed.
I’m not sure if this is a spaceship (why not?) but rather a piece of art, something from the far east. I’m not sure. But I love it!
Scorpion class battleship…
Nice one Deke …Looks great from that angle…nice composition also…
Glenn
Hey Deke,
Now it is a full fledged ship in my opinion. I am not sure that I agree it is your best to date, but I am willing to say it is among your very best. I have other favorites also, among which are some of your sculptris pieces.
Tom
really? i thought you had rendered this in VUE as the clouds look like one of the atmospheres from it… fantastic nonetheless… !
No this was rendered in Zbrush the clouds were made in Vue once upon a time as a panorama but I used it a background in light cap palette, and I’m glad you liked it,
it is more of a demonstration of my learning to use Maxes UV editor…
