you could turn the foot on its side, which would be much more natural for that pose, but the overall effect of the relaxed pose of the legs wouldn’t match the dramatic stuff going on with the upper body.
You might start by having the left leg mirror the right, which would be natural, and then start tweaking the pose from there.
Speaking as someone who has severly burned themself, I would much rather freeze to death! From my experience, you don’t just sit down while you burn! 
I know it drastically changes the composition, but with the back arching like that, it would look better if the figure is standing. The lines of the legs should flow into the lines of the body.
Or do what photographers do: crop the legs.
