Banshee

I agree with flycatcher, I don’t think i have ever actually been scared by an image. Eve4n in movies if you think about it all the fear revolves around suspense, once you can see the monster it’s rarely scary anymore.

Both worth a second look Slosh – as others have said, it’s not so much the looks that evoke horror but what people do or what might happen or has happened – or even what has not happened and never will

So you and this thread have raised a good question – how to evoke horror with an illustration? Some of the comic book painters can at least evoke creepiness

Between the two of them, if I met brother on a dark street, it would be more obvious that I had already had my last supper – the fixed intensity of the upper eyes, the drunken hunger of the lower eyes

And that background …

Very well made points, Flycatcher. I suppose, however, that what I meant by “scary” is that, instead of making people think, “Ew, that is creepy”, or “I wouldn’t want to run into that thing in a dark alley”, my horror images make people think, “How cute, in a creepy sort of way.” Like bulldogs. They are not fierce looking, in fact somewhat ugly, but you can’t help find them adorable, despite the fangs and drooling, droopy features. All told, I’m not extremely disappointed that these images are not altogether successful. They are not bad, they just don’t evoke the response they are intended to. BUT…practice helps. Expect to see more of this from me, hopefully better with each passing attempt.

Great stuff Slosh. If anyone wants a real fright check out this old thread…
gosh!

…like others I almost filled my pants

Good one, Grub! I have actually seen that one before. Ironically, you posted that thread on my birthday. Talk about a surprise!

PS: For those who commented on the she-demon and her brother’s smiles, I embarassingly admit they were supposed to be snarling. LOL! Oh well. I’m gonna post a pic of their momma. She should be more of the gruesome kind (thanks to Ron Harris for the tips)

I dont know if it just me but that link seems to be broken…

OK. I think I finally got it…This is not the Banshee Kids’ Mom, but maybe their other brother Daryl.

I have to say…that’s some skillful ZBrushing…

Stevie_rae.

Glad you kept trying, Slosh, and now that I properly understand the effect you were aiming for, I’d say you’ve come pretty damn’ close with this excellent update. :+1:  :+1:

Great Great picture slosh!
I love the lightning/texture and the
hair, and the teeth.
I love it all… :grimacing: :+1:

that’s much better! Now, you should use a very dark backround and make some dark shadows for the head. And use the blurrbrush outside the eyes. It brings a good glow effect. just some tip! Really good update!! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
