Bailey Wheatland Sketchbook

Hmmm looking at it, it’s pretty good so far. But I was looking and looking trying to figure out what wasn’t quite right with it so far…
I think the gap needs to be smaller between the start of her brows and the inner eyes. If you look at the reference photos they arch upwards more in a straight diagonal line then tail off at the end slightly downwards.
Also maybe her cheekbones are a little to harsh, try softening them a little more I think.

I think her eyes feel off, when you view her from bottom angle her eyes should tilt slightly back toward the ear, these feel like they are just straight across possibly?

I think it’s a good sculpt overall, but definitely feel like you need to establish some planes on areas like her nose for instance. Also resist the urge to work on her at a high subdivision, if she doesn’t capture the likeness at a low level adding divisions doesn’t help.

Keep at it!:+1:

Last update of the day boys and girls. As always your comments and critiques are most appreciated.

I can’t see any of your actual sculpture for the likeness. Just your reference.

Edit:

Correction, now I can. I guess I had to post first. Weird. Nice work. Keep at it. It’s a very pretty model. The likeness isn’t really there yet though. Don’t stop, hammer away!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Here is another update. Now off to rest my eyes again!

nice work. she is geting closer.
how about two planes at each right and left underside of the nosetip
and moving the upperlip slightly back compared to the fuller lower lip?

Thanks Jake! Yeah I was going to get to that tomorrow. Ive been messing with the lips to make them look natural with the lower being more pronounced than the upper. Will keep working with it.

Here is another update!

First off I am no expert at all at sculpting a good likeness, and I commend and elevate you and anybody else that does and attempts it.

With that said, you are making great headway! Keep pushing! It is looking great!

Thanks Takai! Some of these have applied or have though about applying. Others are new such as the move brush tip so thanks for that! Its back to work on this sculpt so expect an update later today!

Here’s another update!

Here is the last update of the night!

Primary forms are done! Now onto breaking the symmetry and then the secondary forms!

I won’t stop until this is right! Here is another update!

I feel like the face is done for the most part now. What do you guys think?

Just a quick hair test. This allowed me to see the final adjustments I need to make. I’m very pleased with the 3/4 view.

Just tried out expressions for the first time. That was more challenging than fun haha. The expression isn’t final. Its just something to expose me to expressions since thats what I plan on doing in the final piece. Tomorrow I will finalize the secondary forms and start detailing. Enjoy!

Took a few days off to do game dev work, but I’m back to it. I’m really happy with how she is looking now. Let me know what you guys think.

Got a chance to work on her a little more. I threw in some quick place holder hair to see how proportions were looking. It’s getting there

Here is a concept sculpted I just started working on a couple nights ago. Still in the early stages. Hopefully will have something completed sometime this week.

Hey Bailey,

just checked your sketchbook and I really love your work. Really great sculpting in here and especially the last one you just added is a bad ass startup, I am totally looking forward seeing the character monkey finished.

Cheers and happy sculpting,

Kenny
