Back to the Basics-Zbrush stage 2

First things first, like where you are taking the kid

Started this late in life as a result of books by Michael Burns and
Glenn Southern’s work in them.
Books led to zbrush and a few more programs after that.
Got lucky on four fronts
1.very good photographer
2.Met and got friendly with people that manage Alias ( maya) terrific people
3.kind of know people in the various industries ( film, advertising, graphics).
4. Friend of mine is a true artist and puts up with my stupid quesions.( like you people)
Have made some money from it. Enough to justify to my better half, my
hogging of the computer.
Truly wished had started earlier, a lot earlier.

After your other thread thought I would try rating one.
Luck

hahaha way to go Tartan!!

now LET HIM OUT!

hey Bicc thx  I have a fair idea of where the first image is going with him, but I am still learning a few things and it may take me a bit to get where I want to go with it. I think your expereince with Cameras has probably proved very helpful. I have only recently started doing that a bit. thx for the stars!

and no I cant let him out cause he aint ready yet!

Greetings Tartan. Looking good from my perspective. Of course…I’m only about 2 months into the 3D world. I’ve tried out several demos of pure modelers and have found that I am most comfortable in the Silo environment. Zbrush was a revelation of sorts for me and it didn’t take me long to realize that it would meet the needs that brought me into the 3D world to begin with.

I’m curious as to what your workflow is between Silo and Zbrush? My needs in this realm focus around the development of medical illustrations, with some occasional need for animation. Your post mentioned going back and forth between Silo and Zbrush. Could you explain to me what you are accomplishing during this back and forth movement between the two programs?

Okay…now I’m rambling. Keep up the great work!

Hey NurseDad. Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread. I have a rather chaotic creative output and tend to pop from thing to thing. As I mentioned earler I picked up Silo in an effort to take me back to the basics. It is a superb little program and many things can be done with it but for the actual shaping of the object Zbrush is much faster and more intuitive. It makes a good partner for Zbrush by either importing a Z generated mesh to edit or exporting a basic mesh that Z can beat up on. The head shape was mostly done in silo along with the extrusion of his basic body but the shape of the body was molded in z.I still have a lot of work (learning) to do in that directon. Good luck on the medical side of things, I think you picked right :+1:

ok, A little bit more shaping here hardly noticeable, Texture done in Projection master, and a Zapp link to Photoshop I laid out the UVs in UV mapper so i could take it to Bryce when i felt ready. The head is spherical mapped, The body cylindrical, eyes spherical, hat spherical and everything else except feet and hands planar. I used box mapping on the hands and feet for better detail.
I still have a lot I want to do with him.

I like your DD comic strip! Hope you go on with it. I am curious as what happens next!

Lemo

heh thx Lemo. It was a kinda spur of the moment man am I bored kinda thing. The verbage needs to be edited as it was written on the fly  the fly didnt like that very much. oh well

Hey Tartan!
Cool model you got there going on! Also cool texturing applyed to the character. One thing tho is that you might want to mix different kinds of alphas so it doesnt look that repetitive.

Now talking about the Big Boys: The Hurricanes! hehehe Yeah man I feel you! I’ve been running from those since I was born. In Puerto Rico I experienced very strong hurricanes and in the last 3 years when I moved to Miami, had to run away from few too.

You said something about taking this as a hobby or who is taking it more serious. If im not wrong! Right know im studying Computer Animation, and I have experience in Visual Arts. So, my main and strong skill I think would be drawing and sculpting. I would like to go in the business of animation as a Character Sculptor. I also want to be an animator, cus i guess im pretty good at 2d animation and I love writing stories of cg short films I got in mind to do some day. So my answer would be I take this Zbrush thing pretty serious! This is like a dream for traditional sculptors to be able to use the computer and sculpt without limits and running out of clay! hehehe

Ok, I guess this was kinda more like an essay hehehe Have a good one!

Javi.

hey Javier,
I suspect we both have been through our share of hurricanes, thats why Alaska looks attractive sometimes! Yes Zbrush is a sculptors dream come true, My ex girlfriend would have loved it. Keep at your dream Javier. There is no one more blessed than a person who is working at a job they actually love

awww mannn 3a.jpg

I sent Bas the base object file of DDand told him he could play with it. OMG ahem ummm owell  He spent a bit of time on it as you san see and I had to post something to show it off and have a little fun at same time. Thanks Bas, That script showed me a lot. Man he looks dangerous. I have named this new species of critter the Mazuri! Its gonna be fun texturing him. I did a little more work on his feet.
