Babineau's design sketchbook!

Nice and good paint job. Maybe not the strongest pose for it. You could get some real nice curves with those long neck and tail. Just my opinion though. Good find on that website too.

Thank you! And I will practice making poses!

Hi guys! I made a pterodactylus! I did the modeling, poly painting and posing in zbrush, the render was done in 3dsmax using Vray and I did some post work in PS. For the fur I used Fibermesh, I didn’t want to loose any details so I exported it as an OBJ (it had 150 000 polys)

I’m happy with the result overall, except for the eyes, for a reason we almost can’t see them in the render :/…

Do you guys like it? do you have any comments critiques for me ?
Here’s the image

Thanks for looking!

Really nice start…but seriously huge images… glad to see you furring up this critter

Thank you!

Hey guys! I made a new monster! He’s called: The mud monster!

Like usual: modeled and polypainted in zbrush, rendered in 3dsmax using vray and post-work in PS:)

Thanks for looking!

BTW: I’m not a 14 years old modeler anymore! I turned 15 yesterday! Yeah! haha xd

Hey guys! I had my first class at visualarium’s class: advanced anatomy r2.

For our assignement we have to design a creature, (we will add a head, feet and hands next week and an extra pair of limbs the week after)

I started to design my creature using Ryan’s techniques, here is what I came up with (still a lot of work to do)

I think I’ll change the tail, it’s seems strange to me!

Thanks for looking!

I think you made a Horspion. Very cool!

Haha! Thanks! I kept the concept of the scorpion tail but I made the ‘‘sections’’ more equal, it looks better!

I worked on my horspion a bit more haha!

Thanks for looking!

Hi guys! Here is my last update for my horspion for today!

I hope you like it!

Cheers!

Hey guys! I made a few tweaks to my Horspion!

Do you like him? Is there anything I should change?

Thanks for looking! I’m looking foward to read what you guys think of my Horspion!

Cheers:)

Looking good–keep in mind that you are creating what is essentially a hybrid of a creature made up of two other creatures: one with an exoskeleton and the other being a vertebrate. At some point you should probably decide how this being holds itself together. Also i would start to look at example of equine anatomy because he is going to need muscles. You should come up with a really cool looking stinger too. Keep going!

Thanks! I think I’m gonna go for a more vertebrate animal because I am more confortable with doing this than an exoskeleton, and for the tail I think I am going to add a scorpion-like stinger, something that makes this animal seem very strong!

Thanks again for the good comment!

Hey guys! I have new WIPs of my horspion!

Thanks for looking!!

Keep sculpting

I’m really digging the work you have done on the legs. I do have questions: what do you know about this creature? What does it eat and what eats it? What is its envionment like and is it a pack animal–does it have a social hierarchy?

Because it has a stinger does not make it a meat eater–the stinger could be for defense so it could very well be a herbivorous creature. I can’t wait to see the head. I ran in to a point (as in point made) when i was investigating steampunk and that point was that if you make something mechanical there must be a reason for the existence of the parts on the object–in other words, it must look like it will work. I think this applies to animals as well.

Keep it up–this is a very interesting project.

I will never stop sculpting!! Haha:)

Here’s my ideas for now (they may change a bit), He is an Herbivore about the size of an horse , he lives in rain forest, his predators are: tigers, crocodiles, big snakes…, They live in big groups (like wolves) The adults protect the children in case of danger, there is no leader or alpha, they are protecting each other , When they are in danger they have 2 options: 1: Run, They are very fast runners, when they run their tail goes down so they have a counterbalance to turn faster. 2: Attack: When they are faced by a fast animal (like a tiger), the adults put the children behind them and try to make a circle around the enemie, they try to sting him (which puts a poison that paralyses the opponent) and when one succeeds the others sting the enemie until he is fully paralysed or dead. So they attack like a kind of ant (I’m sorry I forgot which kind). In groups they are very hard to kill, but alone they are really weak.

That’s my idea for now, please tell me if something is not plausible!

And for the head I will start it tomorrow after my class (which is on head, hands, feet and skin) But I did a sketch and I found out a head shape that fits well (a mix between a mammal head and a grasshopper head) The idea of the grasshopper-like head came from someone in my class named Fredo!

I’ll post more WIPs as soon as I start the head or make big changes to the body!

Thanks again!

Hey guys! I tried adding an other pair of legs but I’m not sure if it looks better or not (I saved before adding the new legs)

Here is my horspion with 6 legs:

I think it was a bit better before… What do you guys think?
