Artists in Action: Caroline Delen Part I & II (Video Tutorial)

Haha … oops! :o I assumed it was speeded up at first, but then some of the time when Caroline is hovering over her selection of tool, the cursor movements look so natural. The only people I’ve seen model ‘real time’ are Meats and Glen in their ZB and Silo dvd’s respectively, and boy do they motor when they want to get things done quickly! D’oh!

This first post has been updated to include part 2 of Caroline Delen’s video tutorial.

Enjoy!

WHOA!

This ZAppLink Plug-In looks totally awesome! The ability to use Photoshop for all our Projection Master needs is extremely powerful, can’t wait to try it out!

Very nice stuff Caroline and Ryan, thanks a lot!

 The second video is really good also… i did not know about Zapp Link before, but what i dont really understand is why does she mirrors the side with zapp, she culd have just picked it up double sided right

that is definitely neato stuff.
great stuff there caroline. these videos came right on time too, because im just getting deeper into texturing within zbrush myself, and i never really considered a number of the brushes before. cheers!, and keep kicking ass.

:+1: :+1: :+1: Super awesome character!!! Love it, love it, love it!!! Is Caroline really a female? I have never come accross a woman who creates scary creatures in 3D. And then she’s THIS GOOD!!! Amazing work! Love that character! Wanna see him come to life!!! Is there an animation with him in the works??? :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Thx for the insight caroline, great work and style.

Well I know caroline personally  and I can’t understand why you think it’s strange that a girl can be this talented? or is that good as you put it, what I find strange is that she creates all these scary characters and hates horror films! go figure

Hey gatis, thanks for the info. Believe me, I was carefull not to sound politically incorrect. I have two sisters and neither of them have any interest in monsters what so ever, nor is it common, as you no doubt know, for women to create monsters/creatures, which is traditionally boys terrain :). I know Tarryl Whitlatch is a terrific female creature designer who worked on the new Star Wars movies.

Anyway, super cool creature, excellent work by Caroline!

Were the goggles and jacket built in ZBrush or in another application?

Great videos ! It seems so easy when a pro does it !

A question from a newbie : how do you import your textures in your 3D soft ? And do you do the uv mapping in Zbrush ?

Hi Strom, Yes I do all the UV mapping in Zbrush - I find its the best and fastest way to do it. Importing textures is easy as Zbrush can save out TIF, PSD or BMP which can then be loaded into my material in Max.

brilliant ! you need to do a video on this process too (I mean it would be nice  )

This has to be one of the coolest painting demos I have ever seen. I can’t wait to try ourt zap link.

Nice job guys!

Caroline keep the excellent work coming!

Does the Zapp Link mean that Painter (which will work in PSD) can be used to texture an object directly in Zbrush while using ProjMaster?

Looking forward to my new toy … a very practical and cool bit of kit indeed, beautifully show-cased.

When will this tool be released, and how much will it cost? Thanks for the vid tutorial!

Very great tutorial thanks!!:+1:

great videos

thanx ryankingslien vbmenu_register(“postmenu_224361”, true); !!

You’re an artist Caroline!

By the way… when you texture a character like this, do you create a single color texture as in your example? How big is that one? It must be big to get a good resolution everywhere in the body…

thanks!!!
