***Announcing ZBrush 4 for Windows And MacOSX

on my bithday
what a treat , thanks pixologic !!

So glad that ZBraush Free Upgrade. Since I just bought it not to long ago. lol

This is great news! I’m glad I stopped by after a long absence!

Requesting Maya style navigation is discrimination! What about LW, Max, native Softimage style navigation eh? It’d be good to make it customizable, but it would kick few basic level function in the ass. So it’s good as it is (especially the right click navigation!)

Softimage support would be nice, if there will be a GoZ sdk I’ll start thinking on it. Meanwhile I started to make my own version but with OBJ, so it won’t be a GoZ, but would make life easier (when I’m ready). I can’t promise anything I have a tight schedule of work, family, etc

This is crazy ! ZB 4 is not yet released and we already have a nice bunch of whiners !

And kowtowers.

Jester! what are you saying?
don’t you know that when you start to use Maya, you can’t come back?
is very difficult to think different, and understand that to rotate something in zbrush is simplier, you not alt+click but you MUST only click and rotate, it’s very difficult
no is CRAZY :D:D:D

you tell that exist other world, or other way to rotate then alt+click?
it’s impossible :laughing:small_orange_diamond:laughing:small_orange_diamond:laughing: eretic!!! :D:D:D

sorry, i not resist to do a joke.
i use many 3d softwares at same times, and i never understand the difficult to learn different navigation ways, also if are simplier than their usual software…

if maya users find difficult to learn a different way of rotation, is their problems, not our problems, and so strange thing, i never see lw xsi c4d max user that request something like that… is so strange… be cause also other software use shortcut to rotate…

not that anyone here knows me from a bar of soap, but, i’d be very interested in that if you do develop it.

There is something a little awkward about zbrush navigation, it never seemed natural to me.
With other 3d apps i got it within minutes or seconds even, I still have to sometimes think twice with zbrush especialy if i havent used it for a while.
Is there any way to rebind them to other keys?

The nav is fine. Hell, I showed a friend of mine zbrush… a person who doesn’t do any 3d, etc. and they were able to grasp it just fine. And she barely uses computers.

The one thing I DONT WANT Pixologic to change is for sure navigation. Why I have to push any buttons while I can just turn object? Maybe in Maya that would be a problem with complex scenes but in sculpt that is just brilliant. It could have some option to freeze object in space to do not move it accidentally while working on edge - but that just as an option for specific task.

Just an option to rebind these keys im not asking for them to change the navigation. Is there not a way to do this?

I don’t see any problems with navigation in ZBrush. I actually find it really natural. I use Maya and 3dsmax on a daily basis and I never encountered any problems. If you’re using a tablet you shouldn’t have any difficulties navigating.
ZBrush and Pixologic kicks ass !!!

Will we be able to view what is going to be show at SIGGRAPH 2010if so please give us the links…

RM nav was a big improvement but it still is annoying when you’re Zsphere/Transposing and you have to “click off” before rotating the view with the RM. I think the best solution would be to have a more customizable mouse/keyboard interface cause everyone seems to have their own opinion on what controls are best.

personally i like:

Alt + LM = Rotate
Alt + Shift + LM = Pan
Alt + Ctrl + LM = Zoom
Ctrl = Invert Pressure
Shift = Hold-Switch Tool
(NO MATTER WHERE YOU CURSOR IS!!)

i know there’s a lot of functionality with masking and stuff that would have to be rearranged, but i’m sure there’s a simple solution to that.

For the most part Zbrush has a great interface. Possibly a bit daunting to beginners but that fades quickly. Some naming conventions don’t make a whole lot of sense like ‘Tool’ or ‘Brush Mod’ but now i’m just being picky

So, who is going to be the first kind person to deliver the info for Siggraph? Im shure there are so many that cant make it, me being in the wrong country dont help.

Of so many years of using software of all kinds, I now look at software differently. My first initial attention is what has been fixed, what has been improoved, then, whats new. One trend I cant stand is features being half baked into apps, but advatized as a new feature that only works with a bunch of workarounds. So while im excited to see whats new in V4, im realy want to know whats been improoved on. Just my thought of the day.

And your sureness is based on…? Because if that is so easy and you are positive about it why not to give a solution straight away…?

Sure, reassigning masking to ‘M’(or any key) is the first thing that pops to mind.

My idea would be to make a shortcut editor that allows you to assign keys/mousebuttons (or combinations) to specific functions/brushes along with toggle/hold and “pressed over model” parameters to indicate weather the the shortcut should be invoked (or toggled) based on cursor placement.

In this way you could assign, for example Mask blurring, to blur when you hold ‘B’ and tap the canvas, and to sharpen by holding ‘B’ and tapping the model’s surface.
Masking could be invoked by holding ‘M’, Alt+Ctrl+LM could be used for Zooming, and angles would sing hallelujah from the heavens.

(they already have half the system in place right now with the Ctrl-Click assignment system)

Now of course that sounds relatively simple from a conceptual standpoint, but I’m guessing it’s not such an easy task from the programmers perspective (depending on the original UI architecture of course).

DITTO!! Will snippets be released all week long about Z4? Or all at the end of the week!!! Awesome!! Cant wait…!!
