wchamlet, I use a mac but also own a pc laptop. I am going overseas for 5 week and wanted a temp license for pc. Aurick told me thats not quite possible but offered a 2nd license for $199. I thought thats a fair price and bought it.
Cheers, Manfred
wchamlet, I can understand your anger but you shouldn’t get mad at me. I’m sorry about that stupid joke.
I might consider purchasing a PC license (At $199) if, and I strongly stress, IF, I can upgrade both my Mac and PC licenses when the new Zbrush comes out. If it will only be for the PC, then I am sorry. I have no desire to use my PC as a workstation, and I would much rather keep the Mac version, however long it takes.
Lynching not included. I’ve already paid my $400 for Zbrush. So the added “benefit” of being able to take advantage of the “extended” pricing for Mac users is moot. Thank you.
Strike you have made an excellent work in the zbrush 2 gallery!i really like your work!
mentat7 too
I’m not mad at you Jimking. I just didn’t find it funny to laugh or joke about the Mac users. Pixologic has just made clear that it operates on the same levels as most other companies. Windows users first, Mac users second. That simple. I understand their perspective “Provide services for your larger user base”. Let’s just hope that the new features of this version will carry over to the Mac side too.
Matthew,
How about a “PC DEMO” version until the MAC version gets released? Is this possible?
At least we can get our feet wet with the new features, even if it is a restricted save disabled version.

This may or may not be the case. As far as I understand it, programming similar applications for the MAC can often be a more tedious job than for the PC. In many cases a lot of the programming overhead is taken care of on the PC end while the “wheel” may have to be re-invented for the MAC in some areas. I know I am over-simplifying, but this can often lead to a faster release time for PC software and a slower one for the same software on the MAC. While both programs (the PC and MAC versions) may look and act the same (or almost the same) they would be, technically, two different programs (for the most part) due to the differences in the MAC and the PC.
I have added a Questions about Z2 thread in the Feedback and Troubleshooting forum. This will be the ideal place to ask questions about things like pricing or features, etc. In other words, specific questions/feedback as opposed to general responses.
Thanks!

quote:
I wouldn’t know about the programming times. That wasn’t what I was talking about. My statement was referring to Aurick’s statement…
quote:
While we would have loved to release both PC and Mac simultaneously, this just was not practical. It would have forced the PC version to wait for the Mac (and would probably have lead to a lynching with torch-bearing villagers storming the Pixologic gates ).
This statement means that PC users are more a priority than Mac users. Regardless of development time. I could be wrong though.

No. It fits what I was saying. It means the PC development time is less than the MAC development time for ZBrush. The result is that Pixologic had to make a decision: Either release the PC version before the MAC version or release both at the same time. From a business perspective, I would also release the completed one and it wouldn’t matter if it was the MAC version or the PC version … just whichever one was ready to roll.

quote:
This is false.

That depends. If an appplication is designed for the PC then porting it over to the MAC can often be like reprogramming the application from the ground up. Let’s take a non-ZBrush example. If I were programming a RT3D game engine that relied on DirectX then a lot of my work is done for me via the DirectX API. The result is I could bring my RT3D engine to fruition more quickly as there are things that I would not have to program from the ground up. If I want the same engine on the MAC then I will have to program, by hand, some things that were only an API call on the PC. This would, in effect, increase the development time of a MAC version of the same application.
If ZBrush is initially developed on a PC (and not simultaneously on PC and MAC) then this can be the case as there could be parts of the Z2 code that rely on certain PC APIs. This could easily create more of a demand on porting the application over to the MAC.
OMG astounding
This is is is Pffffttt. Whooooooo.
Thank You, Pixologic! I shouldn’t have jumped so high, now I have to fix that hole in the ceiling. 50.
