2.5D fun

Today I played with the brushes for the first time (Yes, inspirated by Escher). This is real fun to do. I hope you like it

Very cool!!!

Please keep experimenting…fun stuff!!!

This looks realy great, Bas :+1:
I dont like the material …it looks like that cheap plastic-ivory with paint smeared into the cavity’s to make it look old !
But the object itself looks like its made by a master-ivory carver…so please make a better material…it would look nice in wood too…i think Escher had some of his works made in wood…i think by a Japanese netsuke carver !

A hard one and a soft one, making materials is not my strongest point

FWIW, I really like the original best. On my monitor it looks like electro-plating which has worn thin through being handled over the years. It’s one of the most ‘tactile’ 3D models I’ve ever seen. The last two are wonderful too, of course.

Your original is the best, was the inspiration and also your first selection material was what fit with your feeling in the moment you realize this masterpiece.
Dont stop¡

absolutely fabulous!!!

great object !!
cool render :sunglasses: :+1:

Thanks all for the reply :+1:
I agree with all of you about the materials. If you like a material or not depends when and where you look at it and the mood where you in. After working some hours with tired eyes the choice of a color or a material is different as you startup in the morning. In the night a monitor looks more bright and by day all seems greyed-out. Also the calibration of a monitor has influence upon the colors you see. I work on a monitor calibrated for cmyk-colors. The difference between 25 and 30% of a printed color is hard to see so there are less colors to use (20 gradations per color, RGB has 16 million). The choice of the ‘ivory’ was made to show more details and the gradation of it. The escaping fishes have more detail as the carved ones. The experiment with the brown material shows less details (also this one I like). There are a lot of materials we can make and some can give an accidental nice effect and others are pushed the way we want it.

Well said.

excellent! both in concept and execution, way to go Baz!

Dear Bas Mazur,

Very nice model. I have been experimenting with the low relief look within ZBrush lately. What method did you use to create your “Carved Fish Ball”?

I would love to know.

Cheers.
