Perlman
This is an updated version of my previous Ron Perlman image from a while back; this time rendered using Keyshot/bridge. I always felt I wanted to improve a bunch of things as well as make the final image a bit larger than originally rendered. The original was created using MentalRay, but the slow iterative test-render process, coupled with limited processing power at the time meant I was forced to make a lot of compromises first time sround Keyshot allowed my to make realtime tweaks (textures/ materials /lighting etc), so it felt a lot less frustrating to work on this time

I remember your original version and thought it was brilliant, still do in fact! The changes in this version make it even better.

Cheers Rasmus, Sam. The ghetto blaster, microphones , robot and VW badge were blocked in Maya initially, but all three characters were sculpted entirely in zbrush, (all hair / stubble etc was created with fibermesh). I used Keyshot for rendering: It was my first proper experience using it and I found the seamless integration provided by the Bridge a joy to work with. I'll definitely be incorporating this into my workflow from this point on. It removed all of the pain and frustration from the rendering process and I was amazed at how forgiving it was; I was able to render the entire scene (all three characters and the ghetto blaster /with high resolution geometry and polypaint textures) as one without having to first break it onto component pieces. All on my laptop. Very impressive stuff. Here's a breakdown of the (Keyshot) render passes used to composite the final image in Photoshop (there were a couple of others/mainly to fix very specific regions, but these represent the main ones). All were applied using relevant blending modes (screen/multiply/ vivid light etc), masked/ colorised and adjusted where necessary for maximum control.

This project allowed me to get to grips with Keyshot properly for the first time. It was a whole lot of fun being able to jump between zbrush and keyshot so effortlessly.

Thanks Glenn, I'm glad you like it -Isn't season 7 due to begin soon though? -Sounds like you might have some catching up to do On a related note: I sketched this whilst I was working on Ron...I may turn him into a more finished work at some point in the future:

Perlman
This began life many moons ago as a quick zbrush sketch, which sat unfinished on my machine for a while before I got the chance to return to it. Since there are already lots of Hellboy interpretations out there, -I decided to portray Mr Perlman as Clay Morrow from Sons of Anarchy instead. It's been a while since I've had the time and opportunity to concentrate on a personal foilio image and I had a lot of fun creating this. Comments welcome!

Both foreground characters (as well as the cow) were sculpted/posed using zbrush, based on rough meshes created in Maya. Almost all of the textures in the scene were created using zbrush, (by employing a combination of photographic elements and poly-painting). goofyheads.jpg -Here are a few of the early sculpts to show how how Wooster's head evolved.

age/colour profileMeletis, Greg, Onurcayi, Fidget, Manzerek,: Thanks a lot! Magdalena: the names Jeeves and Wooster are from a british comedy series about a couple of pre WWII aristocrats. I wanted to name my characters after a famous double act and thought the fact that these guys are obviously anything but posh but might be quite funny J Nerveink: sure is -I couldn’t resist J SavageBliss: much appreciated..I’ll post someWIPS when I get the chance. Tobbeo: Fair point. I may make a few further tweaks once at some point. Captain Sensible: You’re not the first person to mention this – I kind of like the fact that it’s not immediately noticeable though Here's a couple of close-ups: dog.jpg

Daft Punk 2: Short Circuit
-Cheers for the kind words guys! Here's version number 2 -This time racing dodgems around on their interstella turntable. This was actually the original idea which I had been meaning to finish for a while. I had most of the component parts sat on my machine for some time, waiting to be thrown together. I used the opportunity to refine a few of the shaders and generally tidy things up after the previous effort. Base meshes in Maya, sculpted and posed in zbrush, rendered in Mental Ray. Textures, compositing and post work in Photoshop. short_circuit.jpg

Remix!
I found a little time between other things to revisit this image, this version inspired by the robot from Chris Cunningham's video for All Is Full Of Love. I used the previous model as a starting point, split the geometry into component parts in Maya, then used zbrush for sculpting and texture work via zapplink, then rendered in mentalray, with some post work in Photoshop..hope you like! 1.jpg

Pippa
I thought I'd create a cute cyder-girl character, just for a bit of fun, partly inspired by a recent trip to Japan. I intend to place her in a scene...possibly with the obligatory 20 foot robot guardian or something. Might re-design her costume a little too -add some dirt etc. Modeled in zbrush, textures in zbrush /Photoshop, rendered in mental ray (plus a little post-work in photoshop also) SCI-FI_TN2.jpg 3001705945_8c0765c4c7_b.jpg )

Daft Punk
Hello peeps. It's been a little while since my previous post...but here it is at last, an homage to Daft Punk. Daft Punk are french musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter and like most people -they love to dress as robots at weekends and moonwalk through space whilst riding giant turntables. The image developed from an idea I had to use some older models that I had never put to good use and to practice some hard-edged modeling techniques. I intend to complete a second version (actually the original idea) some time soon, as a companion piece . Hard edged stuff (turntable) created in Maya, sculpted, posed and warped in zbrush. Textures and post work in Photoshop. Comments and crits most welcome, as always. final_colour_correct_300.jpg http://http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3291/2878023733_0016939e6b_b.jpghttp://www.flickr.com/photos/23697904@N02/2878023733/sizes/l/
