Thank you everyone for the kind comments and taking the time to view my thread. Its been awhile since my last post and I would like to share some sculpts I made in my free time. Mostly practicing asymmetry sculpting and monster look dev. Everything is made in zbrush. The render of the white walker was done in maya with Arnold using fibermesh guides for the beard. Hope you like it. Thanks, Brett

Cool models Brett! Love the lighting you did for the white walker closeup and how the red scattering peaks through the rough skin.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here is a new character to kick of the year. I was inspired by the new Star Wars VII movie and wanted to create my own Rendition of Snoke. Hope you like it. Everything made in zbrush. Started from a sphere, dynamesh, zremesh and then detailed. Rendered in maya with Arnold.

Hi lunar, I didn't use any maps. I just adjusted some variables in the advanced section, Like hue, tangent etc. So here is a wip of Sophie. Very early stages and I probably won't be able to do much more on her for the remainder of the year. There is still a lot of fixing and tweaking to do before I'm happy with her, but thought I would share this as people have been asking me how to apply a displacement map made in Mari. This is what I worked out here on my own. If there is a better way and quicker approach I'd like to hear about it. I apologise if this mini tut doesnt help or is lame. I'm a bit useless at these tut things. Thanks for looking. Brett

shader breakdown please !!! The most impressive is not the displacement map, but the texture work you've done in Mari in order to get that beautiful alpha ! Could you show us how have you done this !? amazing work

Hey Rasmus! Thanks for the rply bud. Hope you and the family is well :-). Abe is looking awesome man. You need to render him out soon. Ive attached some screen grabs of the head for The BFG. The rest is still a work in progress. I'm just using the normal matcap Grey. I don't use a lot of different matCaps. I tend to stick to this and the basic ones. Thanks for looking!

Bretts Sketchbook 2.0
Hello Zbrushcentral, Its been a very very long time since the last time I posted here and I would like to share something I've been working on. Its still a work in progress, The Big Friendly Giant was sculpted and detailed in zbrush. So far his head has 13 million polygons thanks to zbrush 64bit. I'm excited to see what I can get with HD geo as I may go that route once I have the body topology finalised and uv'd. Hope you like him so far. Thanks, Brett.

Hey JudeMarv, The textures are started with photos. But I ended up painting a lot of stuff by hand as well. What I did was set the model to the second highest subdiv in zbrush and created a height map with the old displacement extractor. This gave me...

Alien_v011_v06.jpg Hey guys, Last year I had the privege of working with Greg Strasz(www.gregstrasz.com). He contacted me to work on an alien concept with him. Together we brainstormed this creature. It was an amazing experience and we had tons of fun feeding off of each others ideas. Greg had the idea of making a grey Alien but with a new twist. I was responsible for the modeling and sclulpting of the detail. Greg did these awesome renders and texturing. We discussed all sorts of things. Like how his head would expand when he uses his brain for telekinetic synapsis. He has a nose that would breath in a sort of fish gill type of rhythm. He also has these tiny little bumps on the front that create a sort of shark like extra sensory for the Alien. I hope you like it as much as we had fun making this. Sincerely, Greg and Brett Here are some more renders: Alien_v000b.jpg Alien_v006.jpg Alien_v004.jpg Alien_v010.jpg Alien_v012b.jpg

Aberrant: Thanks man. gelfling status: Thanks glad you like the hands. Spent some time on them. nellement: Thanks Bud. Your work has some fresh ideas. Keep going with them bigd17: Thank you. Mr Vinck: Wow thanks for the compliment. Though its all Norman Rockwells awesomeness. I'm just trying to learn something here. Captain Sensible: Thank you captain. hehe. roger: thank you. AgentEnigma: Hahaha. Well then I'd be shot by some art society hitman. prosthetix: cheers shhark: Ha! I doubt that so much but thank you! So heres a small update. HaloAnimator: Hey man. Thanks for the kind words. I'm running a quad with 8 gig ram. I still had to seperate the head off the body to get to higher divisions though. haha. sasquatchpoacher: Thanks Greg KrakenCMT: Thanks Chris. Your nerve character is awesome. Mikeporetti: Hahaha. Imagine that. Would be awesome . The head is a seperate piece to reach higher divisions for detailing. Cool stuff in your blog. joe55: Glad you like it. hell666: Thanks man. amon_87: Thanks. Not sure on hours. But it was roughly 7 days or less. I loose track cause I bounce around doing bits here and there. Trying out rendering techniques and so on. fabianloing: Hey buddy. No need for calling me sir lol. Thanks for the kind words man. Rock on! Teyon: Thank you for the compliment. DHARMAESTUDIO: Hey Arturo, Thanks for stopping in here. Love your work calum5ZB: Hahahaha. Nope. although it would have helped a butt load! No full frontal though. Thanks. haha. Stephenrminkin: Thanks man. Really appreciate it. SolidSnakexxx: Hehe. Thanks man. rasmusW: Thanks for the crits Ras. I agree. I'll try get to them a bit more . Disco Stu: Hey man. Thanks for all the support. really appreciate it. The hands are all sculpted. No alphas. I use the elastic brush and dam_standard brush for detailing. They work really well together I think. Heres some updates. I ended up doing a really basic rig to pose him. I tried transpose but I really needed ik and handles to find the pose and keep tweaking it up. Now that his in this position I can make final tweaks with zbrush. Also Started on the clothing. Well just the pants really (which has another division higher). The hands still need to be posed. ZBC_THUMB.jpg HoboPosedClothing.jpg HoboPosedClothing2.jpg HoboPosedClothing3.jpg Crits and comments welcomed as always...

Tyrone M: I just noticed a big mistake. I've been spelling LABeouf- LeBeouf! I hope shia doesn't sue me . Well Gio did say he looked like a rockwell kid LOL! Slosh: Haha. I'm sorry man. I had no idea. Thanks for the kind words though. I'm not sure how far I'll go with this. I may do the whole scene. If I have the stamina. Hahaha. FabioPaiva: haha. Thanks for being honest . ncollings: Yo Nico! Thanks Bud. Your last horn monster came out sweeet . sasquatchpoacher: Come on Greg. We know you lying. haha. Your work is amazing man undoz: Hey Andrei. Me too! Yup. Gonna do clothing too. Girl with earphones . I had to say it again . Disco Stu: Hahahahaha. Well No blurs. The nudity warning is out of my hands. Aurickle has control of that and its understandable. No one wants to walk in here and see an old hobo starkless. It'll scare even the brave. haha. piek: Lol! Thanks Pete! boxing8plus: Hey thanks man. The wrinkles are done using the dam standrd brush that maddam made. After that I use the elastic brush to raise the skin. The elastic brush is a gem. I hope its in z4 along with the dam_standard brush. Zicarious: Hey Ped, Thanks man. Your stuff is wicked man. I love your style Anyway heres some updates. I think the body is done now. Onto the clothing I guess. Haha. Hope you like it. RockwellHobo9Head.jpg RockwellHobo9.jpg RockwellHobo9Hand.jpg Cheers, Brett

Heres a new character I started last week, Its still a wip. The head base is the same as my Shia LaBeouf model. Its inspired by Norman Rockwells hobo painting. Not sure of its actual name I'm afraid . RockwellHobo8BustWeb.jpg RockwellHobo8web.jpg Thanks for looking. Brett

Helixdnb: Thank you! Means a lot that you saw who it was before reading the title . chindian: Thanks man. Dealer2 Couleurs: Ye his got a freakish neck. Its a strange thing its long and really flat looking. His also got really narrow shoulders too . Tyrone M: Thanks TY, Love your work man. The bioshock pic is awesome! Thanks for the crits on Shia. Really appreciated and I learnt a ton Pedro Toledo: Haha. Thank you so much. I'm glad you think so. Yea I like the drunk one too. Had a good time on that one . ivar_sn: Thank you. nerveink: Thank you thank you thank you . But I think top row is alreafy filled with expressions. Nothing fresh here I'm afraid. I'm always too late . Mikeporetti: Thank you so much for the kind words, Shia was rendered in mental ray. The hair was done with shave and a haircut rendered as hair primitives. If you use shave go into the shave globals and turn the tab from buffer to hairprim. Also once you do that scroll down to mental ray tab and turn off render in 'safe' mode. That tab turns your render over to rasterizer. I know they say render hair in rasterizer but thats if you render it seperate. I'll stop talking now . nickz: Hey buddy thanks for replying. I hope your still well and your family too my friend. skull_monster: . Thank you. Your work is really impressive. Mr Vinck: Haha. Thank you so much. Disco Stu: Haha. Thanks man. I feel like a studio ran over me if that helps . wolfie: hahahahaaha. I know what you mean. Although. I was there once. Uh oh... hehe. Sebcesoir: Thank you sir. I hope to see more of your evangelion piece soon. Amazing work. And your warhammer piece was outstanding. roger: Thank you. Moni-Poroni: Ye there was a challenge over on cgtalk. Sorry to spam zbc with all the expressions . ezekiel6: haha. Thanks man. Really appreciate it . skulll_monster: . No worries my friend. nellement: Funny you say that. I basically picked him out of a hat. I think Jim Carrey or and older actor like tommy lee jones would have been easier. But I don't know. - FoOD -: Yo whats up FOO. hehe. Thanks bud. Love your work. d8Ds: Hehe. thank you. Maybe a textured version will pop up. Who knows . Congrats again on the top row for your piece. I'm pretty sure you'll win best cartoon character . pummumu: Hey Herb. Thanks for the kind words and votes on cgtalk. Really appreciate it. Love your work man. Your sagat sculpt is awesome! Etcher: Haha. Thank you so much. you have some really cool studies in your sketchbook. Captain Sensible: Thank you so much for the kind words rasmusW: Hey buddy. Thanks for the support through the challenge. Its really appreciated. Hope to see more critters from you soon. threetails: Hey Cam. Thanks. These were all sculpted one by one. Normaly i'd use blend shapes but I wanted to try get more control by individual sculpts. Blends would have been really cool cause then I could animate him. This was a wip test to see if the model was correct during the modelling process. Its not a final texture or anything so just ignore the anti aliasing and crappy quality as well as the shirt pasted on his neck . I used the imageplane 3 a lot and it probably saved my a$$. Thank you marcus_civis. Shia17a.jpg

Shia Lebeouf HMC# 20 - 15 expressions
Hi everyone. Been awhile since I posted here on zbc. I recently took part in the Hardcore modelling challenge 20 for 15 expressions. So I decided to attempt a realistic character. It was really difficult but I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. Thanks goes out to those that critted and helped me on the way. The base mesh was done in maya. But was fully sculpted in zbrush. As were all the expressions. From there I just rendered out highres geometry with normal map applied. I'd usually use displacement but time was running short . All I can say is thank pixologic for zbrush. Moving one vert at a time for 15 expressions would have made this challenge an absolute nightmare! I hope you like him . Sad2.jpg ShiaExpressionsFinal2.jpg ShiaOrthos.jpg WireFrame.jpg And some individual renders. Drunk.jpg Worried5.jpg Disgusted.jpg Enjoyment.jpg Pleased.jpg Silly.jpg And some zbrush screens . Hi guys. Gareee: Hehe. Cheers man. I'll see what I can do when I'm finished with her. Sublimus: Thank you! Glad you like it. I'm pretty happy with her so far. Tomala: Thanks. A little bit closer this time.. GregStrangis: Haha. Thanks. But doubt it. Besides. I'm just enjoying working on her anyway. Been a great learning piece. Mrguy: Hey guy! haha. Thanks for the reply man. Appreciated . skulll_monster: Thank you for the comment nightwoodwolf: . haha. Thanks mate. Hope your well. mechanical_halo: I decided to take your advice and stick with the blue. Its not as saturated though. Hope you like it. vedanta: Thanks! Zeth09: I hear what your saying. Unfortunately I have no idea how to make it more wet looking. I've tried adding more reflections to the hair. But the issue is the hair tips don't clump together very well. So its out of my hands now, unless someone is willing to share some secrets with me . This may have to stay as is, Otherwise I end up spending months researching the problem. I'd like to just move on. hahaha. Here's the update. The water I'm not happy with. its to static and needs more splashy randomness, Unfortunately I have no real flow knowledge. So sue so me . I may have to model all the water if need be. Her hands and feet still have no texture. I'm thinkin of making them go transparent like it does in the comic. But will have to see. Everything is being displaced and rendered in one go, silly me, I know . All that I did was add grain, adjust the exposure, and the 1st image had a depth of field added in photoshop. Hope you like her. Aspen3.jpg Aspen4.jpg Thanks for looking. Cheers Brett

  • Intervain
    12-15-08
oooh wavey I think you went overboard with the grain that's a minor point though... I'd say it'd be nice to break up the hair a bit more with small strands in between those big ones, to get rid of that straight cut on the ends... looking great

bneall: Hahaha. Well I gave it my best try. No comping here. Thats cheating . abyss103: Yo Ras, Whats happening mate. Long time no chat. threetails: hahahaha. I know what you mean. Predators are everywhere. mrkrzysiek: Cheers . Intervain: Haha. Mag please don't call me sir. Lets leave that for the masters eh . I really hope you find time for that dude. Here's hoping . As for Aspen thank you . I gave the hair a try. Hope its looking ok . So here she is.. Added displacement to the rib armour and to the bikini top along with the shoulder armour. All of which are a lvl 2 mesh. Updated the hair and aspens eyes are slightly closed. I may close the mouth. But the teeth give a nice friendly feeling. I think. I've made the bikini blue just to say how it looks. Not to sure at this point. But a colour correction is easy enough to do. Hope you like it so far... Aspen.jpg Thanks for looking Cheers Brett

SolidSnakexxx: Thanks . bneall: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Damn. uv's make me squirm even more so!!! haha. Hows the texturing going. Eh? haha. eof3D: Thanks mate. Love your stuff. Thanks for the tut in your thread. Cool stuff. gpepper: Thank you! We'll see eh? Still a long road ahead. haha. Erik Heyninck: I completely agree with you. I've toned the legs down . Though in this render you can't see it:P. Ok So I had some time last night and today to "play" with a render and sorts. The armour is level 2 from zbrush. Aspen is level 2 with disp map and smooth. The bikini is a full highres. For some reason I lost my lower divisions and can't recalculate a lower level *sigh*. The hair is another idea for style. I'm not sure yet though. Let me know what you think. I may end up changin her expression. Not sure to what though either. haha. AspenRenderTestweb2.jpg Thanks for stopping in. Cheers Brett

So I've finished the feet. Done most of the left armour and sculpted a bit on the cloth. I'm thinkin of just doing sculpted hair instead of a hair system. But I'll see what I feel like doing in the end. . I think I added a bit more muscle in the fore arms. I can't remember. Was awhile ago. AspenZbrushrender11.jpg I've been asked to show the armour closer . AspenArmourWeb.jpg

Fantastic work... Realy I love itVery nace character, pose and anatomy sculpt. One thing about her arms, looking the rest of the body, I think It would must be more musculous.

Thanks guys. Here's a small update. Basically bringing in most of the armour and junk. A little test on what might be a look for the armour too. Let me know your thoughts please. I'm still sculpting hands and feet. And adding little details as I go over the pose. Fixing forms and so on. AspenZbrush11web.jpg AspenZbrush10web.jpg Please crit.. Cheers Brett

Wow, it's coming out great. Love the armuor! If you are looking for a crit.. hm, I think I would smooth a bit the definition on the arms, to make them a bit more feminine.

romilkchoprazb: Thanks dude. Not sure this is worth a post. But here goes.. I've made the rib cage more subtle. Eased up the wrinkles and scapulars on the back and lifted the hips a bit more. Also I've pulled the back muscles out some more. Let me know what you think and crit away please. Thanks AspenZbrushrender9web.jpg

This is a well done model. I guess you had something in mind when you made that pose, so I'll just wait for the full scene!

Incredible sculpt and pose! Not wild about the toes though they seem like they are trying to escape from each other. And they lack the sense of bone structure the other parts of the body possess.
