Looks cool Kurt, only thing that doesn't look right to me are the toes of the boots. They seem a bit big compared to the ankles. It could be just the different colors playing tricks on the eyes though, not sure. Will be a cool one to print for sure!

BB-8 Wip #8 Print friendly mesh
BB is pretty much done. The mesh has been merged, dynameshed, sliced and keyed for 3D printing. The head was hollowed with a hole to add a rotation mechanism. The bottom lower parts as well as the back arch have large keys and will need a few support structures inside to keep them tight. (small bands with shallow bolts) size and shape would depend on the kiddos exact wheelchair.

It was a good day. BB's lower half is pretty much done... just some basic stuff to add and tweak. Dropped some colour on him to bring him to life a bit more.

Knacki, glad you like the design, and yes, the main reason I picked BB-8 was the ability to keep the kiddo front and center and not too blocked in. BB-8 is there ...just not over-powering.

This is awesome! The design is elegant and with rotating head and sounds it could be really enjoyable. Love it.

BB-8 Wip#4
BB's head is all cleaned up, and i can start in on the body this week. He is just a bit more stylized as far as his edges go so the 3D Print will pop a bit more along the edges. The head will merge (dynamesh) nicely for a water tight mesh and easy to hollow out. I will split the top part of his head so the electronics (head rotator) can be placed fairly easy. The body should not take as long as its just the main half circle and one smaller one that can be duplicated four times. Thanks for the feedback as well. =)

BB-8 Wip# 3
I started to clean up BB's head plates today. I still have the larger front plate to do as well as the his top. His body wont take nearly as long. I also included a small breakdown of how I've been cleaning up his plates. Keeping 3D printing in mind for when I dynamesh all the parts together for a print friendly mesh.

BB8 wip2
BB8's edges are all blocked in and I can go in and start the retopo and get nice clean lines hopefully over the weekend. I made his lower side panels all the same for easier manufacturing...1 shape then make copies instead of 4 different ones. I am also thinking of making BB8's head so it can rotate. It will really bring him to life with all his sound effects. Lastly, for the final model I might make the front panel able to pop off around the bottom of the circle to the top for the kiddo to be placed easier in the chair. Hopefully I will have time to finish this.

Great contest for the kids... I was sketching ideas last night and want to do a design with BB-8 and with the files provided the model will change a bit but the over all feel and look should be close. Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

I went from playing around with the new Zbrush tools and XMD to making a Shark, then, deciding how I fare at creating water. Its been about 10 years since I last attempted anything with this much water. Overall, not amazing and not half bad for how fast it came together. I love the colouring in the sharks' face. I learned a lot... time to get back to what I do best... characters.... and I'm itching to do a 3d print.

I wanted to do one character that is not designed by myself. Mark Andrew Smith, writer and creator of Gladstone's School for World Conquerors has given me permission to do a 3d print of one of the awesome characters found in the comic. I decided to do Kid Nefarious. It was fun to actually put a print together since it wont be cast. I will try my hand at painting him sometime this week if i can find my airbrush. If not I'll paint by hand.
