Prepared for print
Hi, Another update of my guardian model, this time ive added a back which ill use to hang from my wall and the guardian will attach to it, i think this will work better than having a base with a pole holding him up as it should look more like he is floating Its currently cut into parts so im going to test print very soon, ill add some photos of my resluts once i have them.

The snort-hog and the Rock knocker
hi, Thanks guys glad you liked it here is a new sculpt based on one of my favourite artist's rodney matthews. This was started with Zspheres and then Dynameshed and finally Zremeshed which seems to now be my favoured workflow at the moment Originally i was thinking about making it for 3D print but i think the tail and small hair details would be to thin so ive decided against it. Rendered in Keyshot hope you like

I love the concept. Allow me one tiny crit: In comparison to the pigs balls , the knockers face and arms are very less detailed and defined. It seems, that detailing on him gets less from bottom to top. Minimum eyes should get some creasing to make...
  • DarkMonk
    03-15-14
Hi Knacki, Thanks for the crit, yeah the eyes and face details do seem to be a little lost in the render, i'll go in and sharpen up the details a little I had not planned on painting it as it was meant as sculpting practice to learn new techniques...

Darkmonk_Sketchbook
Hi, Thought i would finally try and start a sketchbook of my Zbrush adventures This is my most recent sculpt based on a concept by jaemin kim, for this model i really wanted to try out some new techniques and also try out dynamesh as ive not used it much before. I started out creating a Zsphere armature to blockout the location of joints and scale etc.. Then i used the insert sphere brush to block out volume of the limbs, this worked out quite well and was pretty quick. once this was blocked out i used Dynamesh to merge all the seperate spheres into one mesh and using the claybuildup and trim dynamic brushes i refined the main forms before going in and adding the final details. The final render is in Keyshot as i had never used it before so was also trying out different techniques using this renderer, hope you like it comments welcome,

@slocik Yeah normally i dont finish off my models either lol so i was glad to get this to a stage im happy with before moving on. ill make sure to try and think about eyelids for my next project though Here is the little fellow in a realtime engine, this is a screen from the Marmoset model viewer and a wireframe of the low poly version. final image of the little fellow on a rock @slocik I did try adding eyelids but i just could not get it to look how i wanted it, as soon as he has eyelids (even tiny ones) he loses that bug eyed gormless look that i like about him. CreaturePosed.jpg and here is a couple of different angles of the sculpt CreatureProfiles.jpg

  • slocik

still teh eyes just aren't there, but at least you finished it and are happy with it, ( something i must start doing about my models ). Anyway , for the render you shcould pick a bit of profile look.

Little Creature
Hi guys, This is my latest Zbrush work, hope you like it Its based on some small creatures in an image by the artist Paul Bonner. Its been a while since ive had time to work in Zbrush so i was feeling a little rusty but it came back to me quickly made the base mesh with Zspheres and blocked out forms, then exported to Topogun for some retopolgy before sending back to Zbrush for the detailing and colours. Final image is a compsosite in photoshop of a few differnt materials from Zbrush. Comments always welcome, Thanks john LittleCreature01.jpg

having difficulty :(
hi guys, This has been harder than i first thought, every time i get him looking good from 1 direction he looks bad from another lol I am finding it difficult to get the same surface detail that i have in Zbrush in my Maya MR renders, but i think i just have to get used to what setting to change. Decided to use the Maya fastskin SSS for the first time on this model so its been a learning experience in Maya as well. Could really do with some comments on this image as i have been looking at it for too long and dont know where to start with my alterations. The hair is just photoshoped onto the image just now, going to try and learn how to do hair after i get him looking more like steve. Steve_Test1.jpg

Frank Bullitt
hi, Thought i would try and model a realistic head of somebody famous to increase my sculpting skills in Zbrush. Im trying to make Steve Mcqueen from the film Bullitt, hopefully youll be able to tell from the image who it is but its still early stages just now. This is the first time i have tried to model anyone recognisable so if anyone has any hints and tips i would love to hear them. Steve.jpg comments are most welcome, even at this early stage.

Good job so far. WHat I see - his nose should be wider a bit and nostrils a bt more high. As well mouth not so wide. Waiting for updates - good actor, not like those sissys that we have in movies nowdays (spiderman... pleaaaassseeeee... )

Executioner_head_03.jpg Hopefully i can find out what the problem is and finish this model soon.

hi all, N ot had any time to work on this for a while so thought i would just share this small update with you. Executioner_Model_05.jpg Executioner_head_02.jpg Im having some difficulty getting detail into some areas as my model is already to many polys for my computer to handle properly, think im going to have to re-do the topology at some point very soon. Any comments are most welcome

hi, Thanks for the comments panstar, i think it looks a little short because his arms were outstretched, i have reposed him and feel the proportions look better, what do you think? Executioner_Model_04.jpg Now that ive reposed him i need to fix some of the muscle areas as they have distorted slightly.

  • panstar

small update
Hi, Not having much luck today, Zbrush has crashed a couple of times and i have lost a couple of hours worth of work so this update does not have as much of a change as it should have. Did not like the original mouth for the character as he was looking to human and thats not what i wanted os here is the latest head. head_02.jpg Also added a little of the clothing and adjusted some muscles. Executioner_Model_03.jpg would love to hear any comments you have of what you think, especially on the new face design. thanks

Executioner - started from Zspheres
Hi all, I have decided to try and make a model using only Zbrush, this is my first test of using Zspheres to start a model as i usually use Maya for the base model so its a bit of a learning experience as well. I am going to make this Executioner style character that a friend of mine has concepted really quickly for me. ExecutionerConcept.jpg Here is my base mesh started from Zspheres and the adaptive skinned mesh before any sculpting. Executioner_Model_01.jpg im pretty happy with the overall shape of the body just now but im not too sure if the topology will be ok, But im going to try anyway any comments are most welcome.

Thanks for your comments guys, here is the ref image i used as a guide and also a version in red wax. dont have time to work on him today but ill try to finish the texture around his neck and also give him some eyes soon. wdcstudios :- yes this was textured using Zproject, i wanted to learn as much as i could and i only wanted to use Zbrush although the base mesh was done in maya. calum5ZB :- hi, thanks for the comments, i tried inserting an image the first time but it did not work, hopefully this time my image will appear. Can you tell me what is the difference between using the "Upload Image" button or using the insert image ? sorry, im new to putting up posts PS. had a look at your website, very nice work. Looks great, although I'd definitely soften that horizontal line through the face. It looks very unnatural, almost like the edge of an alpha that didn't have any falloff. But once that seam is gone it's excellent!
