Barbarian Fisherman Garp
Hey guys I made this the other day and wanted to share it here. I made this based off a concept by John Polidora. You can see his work at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/xvPoW. It was tonnes of fun to model this guy! This was also my first attempt at having animations in marmoset 3. Super easy to do! 6eo0GfgMI7g And finally it's also on sketchfab: https://sketchfab.com/models/89f868a637684060af1ec58999c2754f

Alright so I'm trying to practice making more realistic looking characters and I feel I've been staring at this too long and could use some input on things to improve in the anatomy. I'm aiming to make this character: http://th01.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2014/314/6/a/soar___alexandra_bell_by_spikesdm-d85zlkq.jpg

Me, too! Trying to learn to make realistic characters. :-) Your female looks great! I like the abdomen and surrounding areas. Take my opinion with a grain of salt -- most of what I know about anatomy, I've learned from the digital tutors course...

The angle of the spine of the scapula seems off, the sacral 'triangle' (which is a bit more than a triangle in a female usually actually) seems more or less absent, and there is no indication of 7th cervical (the one that create a 'bump') here is a...

Lion Warrior
Does anyone here know of good ways to approach game fur? Last time I attempted this I mainly did hand painted textures and it looked pretty tacky. I'm considering using photos of fur, making alphas from the and applying it to the surface although that may end up overly noisy. Based off this awesome concept: If anyone knows who made this art I'd like to credit them but I have no idea who did it.

Thanks skasse! Yeah the grin did look awkward I was actually drying to get rid of it to bake it to the low and then bring it back after. I do appreciate the input. I put together the low poly and textures and here is the result: I also have it on sketchfab here: https://sketchfab.com/models/a3e0fed7446740bf831b31d4148fc12b

I'm liking the style, great work so far. My initial critique is pretty small and was the first thing I noticed. His snarl is a bit wonky to me. Perhaps the bridge of his snout is too high or there is too smooth of a transition between that bone mass...

Thanks for the input j.carr. I do agree with you. When I get to the low I'll try a comparison between that and using alphas for the fur. Also a bit of progress on Rocket's rockets:

Rocket Racoon
Hey Guys. I've been a bit unwilling to post my work lately but I thought it would be nice to post this since I'm having fun with it and would really like to get input from some other artists. I'm currently working on Rocket Raccoon based on the art from the recently released comic. One thing to note is I'm not sure about the tail so there are two versions in the image. I'm aiming to make a game res model but I think the cleaner shape is more accurate to the design. Anyway, I hope you guys like it. the concept:

  • j.carr
    08-16-14
Aww, I love the stylisation here. Personally I prefer the chunky tail with bits coming off it. Looks a bit more like the scrappy raccoon we've come to know and love, and fits your rendition well.

Free Character Rig
Hey everyone! I decided to give out a character I was working on. It's made with Maya and Zbrush. I was hoping that I could make my work go to use to at least someone out there. At the same time I thought it would be a good learning experience for me in having other people try using my assets so if you find any flaws in the model or rig don't hesitate to message me. It's uploaded to my website at http://christophschoch.com/resource.html. I would also like to mention Ryan Hall, whose sketches inspired me to make this character. Anyway enjoy the character!

I'd definitely recommend better topology at some point. I'm not sure bout zremesher but at least with q remesher I find that area like the face and hands need a little extra geometry and having weird topology in detailed areas makes you have to fight the geometry. Anyway, here's more Batman.

Yeah, the hands are part of the character's design. I find it helps the silhouette though. I took the model into keyshot. I rendered out a turntable! That feature is pretty great.

Been gone for a week so I didn't get a chance to post updates but I did some low poly work and worked on the highpoly pose/display. The lowpoly is looking a little dull (in comparison to the highpoly) I find and I'm working around ways to make it pop more but I haven't found a way to go about it. I think the normal map needs to be a bit more prominent. Let me know if you have suggestions.

Battle Chasers - Gully - WIP
Alright a new side project. I recently game across the comic Battle Chasers and although it had no ending I enjoyed reading it. I've decided to sculpt one of the characters for fun and I'll post the progress here. I'm liking the direction so far but something feels off that I can't pinpoint. It might be the proportions or maybe the posture but I'm not sure so I'd be happy to hear some input. Anyway, hope you guys like it.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Here is an update on the last of the texturing I'll do in Zbrush. I'll be moving on to the low-poly and final texture touch-ups will come last. I'm also playing around with making a highpoly pose. I've haven't really tried that before.

I think it looks ok fro stylized stuff ;] If something that sticks out to me is the hair, a bit inconsistent sculpting, with sharp top, and smother separate parts.
