#AskZBrush: Updated April 23
Pixologic is pleased to bring you the #AskZBrush system -- an exciting way to get answers to your questions about ZBrush features. More than 266 questions answered, and climbing! Using Twitter, simply ask your question with the hashtag #AskZBrush. Our experts @Pixologic will review the question and where practical follow up with a short video containing the answer. The #AskZBrush system is set up to provide answers to questions that would generate 3-10 minute videos. Our specialists won’t answer broad training or tutorial-type questions such as, “How do I sculpt a full character?” Rather they will focus on specific questions like, “How can I sculpt on thin pieces of geometry?” or “How can I display reference images with SpotLight?” Keeping the question simple and specific will increase the odds of your question being answered! We now have three playlists. The top one is for #AskZBrush Vol.3, which will contain all videos created after the release of ZBrush 2018. The middle playlist is Vol.2 for videos created during the life of ZBrush 4R8. The lower playlist is the archive of the original videos, with 200 informative answers. Here is the playlist from #AskZBrush Vol.3! PLMjnnUF3eJFfmBaf3Ko2FE4FatbxlGnL_ Here is the playlist from #AskZBrush Vol.2! You design the costume and the team headed up by Frank Ippolito at Thingergy Inc will bring the winning design to life. Starting Monday, April 30th, 2018 Pixologic Inc. will be launching a ZBrush community contest with the challenge to design a Star Wars themed costume for one chosen kiddo. Magic Wheelchair is a non-profit organization that teams up with artists and builders to assemble theme-based costumes that are fabricated to integrate with the child’s existing wheelchair. You design the costume, and the team headed up by Frank Ippolito at Thingergy Inc will bring the winning design to life. Starting Monday, April 30th, 2018 Pixologic Inc. has launched a ZBrush community contest with the challenge to design a Star Wars themed costume for one chosen kiddo. The contest will run until Thursday, May 31st, 2018. The winning design will also be included with the other professional build teams for the big reveal at Comic-Con. These teams are: Thingergy Inc Team Monster City Studios Team McMaster Robots and GT Props Team Tom Spina Studios Team Fon Davis and Fonco Studios Team Tested.com and Adam Savage Team Pixologic Inc. Team We would also like to thank Massivit 3D and Dangling Carrot Creative for providing 3D prints to the Thingergy Inc team for the ZBrush Community build and Pixologic Inc build. We encourage you to get the popcorn ready and start watching those Star Wars movies for inspiration! Do you know a child that you would like to nominate for a chance to receive one of these Star Wars costumes? Visit Magic Wheelchair’s site for further details. YOUR CHALLENGE To design a Star Wars themed costume that will be given to one Magic Wheelchair kiddo. Your goal if you choose to accept it is to replicate anything from the Star Wars universe into a wheelchair ready costume. This could be any vehicle, ship, character and or other element of existing Star Wars designs. Please use the existing Star Wars Universe IP designs creatures, characters, vehicles, ships, etc. Do not create new or original designs. The winning digital design will be fabricated for a custom fit on the chosen kiddo’s wheelchair. This design and final costume will be unveiled at the 2018 Comic-Con in San Diego, California. BEFORE YOU GET STARTED To assist with an accurate, general understanding of designing for a wheelchair, Pixologic is providing Magic Wheelchair ZBrush Project to get started. Download the MagicWheelchair_Contest2018.zpr before beginning your design. This Project contains: One subtool with actual measurements of the powered wheelchair. Images of the powered wheelchair for a better understanding of how your design may fit in relation to the wheelchair. Please keep in mind that this is not the exact wheelchair for the kiddo you are designing for. Rather, it is meant to give you a general direction for design. Please keep your design compact and maneuverable. Here are some great examples for you to reference. Keep in mind that your design will need to be either CNC or 3D Printable. This means that it must be a "watertight" mesh. Watch the Video below to understand how to use the Magic Wheelchair Contest 2018 ZBrush Project File: YoK9jfL8QZ8 WINNING DESIGN The winning design will be fabricated into a one-of-a-kind costume for a Magic Wheelchair kiddo and will be presented to the kiddo at the 2018 Comic-Con in San Diego California. The winning artist will be credited at the 2018 Comic-Con unveiling. The winning artist will also be announced and have their design featured on Pixologic.com and ZBrushCentral.com. Further prizes by Pixologic will be announced at a later date. DESIGN SUBMISSION DETAILS What Must be Submitted Contest entries must be submitted in the form of a thread in the ZBrushCentral.com Magic Wheelchair forum. The title of your thread must include the name of the Star Wars themed item you have chosen for your inspiration. The created costume design should be for the wheelchair, only. Do not create a design for the kiddo's costume. Begin Your Challenge We have created a Magic Wheelchair Contest forum. Please visit this forum to begin your own thread. Title your thread with the Star Wars themed design that you’ve chosen. As an example the Pixologic Inc Team design thread will be titled: Poe Dameron X-Wing Fighter During the Contest We encourage you to actively participate in the contest by including WIP images, explanations of your techniques, interaction with people who comment in your thread, etc. The full criteria that will be monitored for each entry are: How well the final entry expresses the contest's Star Wars theme. If the final submission does not fit the theme then it will be excluded. For example, the most amazing dragon ever seen would still be disqualified because dragons haven’t been seen in any Star Wars films. Overall use of ZBrush features: Majority of the sculpt must be completed in ZBrush to qualify. The judges will be depending on your WIP images and accompanying descriptive text to see that the model truly was created using ZBrush. Submission must be a completed image (not a Work In Progress stage) and have a completed 3D Model ready for upload to Pixologic Inc. Final Submission Your "Final Entry" post must provide the following: Your final post for the contest thread must contain the words: "Final Entry." Final submission must be posted in your contest thread by 11:59 PST on Thursday May 31st. At least one final posed image that is colored, sculpted and rendered completely in ZBrush or KeyShot. Minimum image dimensions are 1,500 x 1,500 pixels and a third party program may only be used for compositing the final render. If your design is picked as the winning design you will be required to upload your file to be downloaded by Pixologic Inc for the Thingergy Inc team to evaluate. Please remember that your design will need to be CNC or 3D Printable. Please also include in your final entry the name you would like to be credited under. This could be your full name or your ZBrushCentral username. JUDGING Judging will be by a panel of industry experts and professionals within the Magic Wheelchair Organization and Thingergy Inc. Judges will be given Friday, June 1st, 2018 through Monday, June 4th, 2018 to evaluate each contestant's entry. This panel’s judging will determine the winner of the ZBrushCentral Magic Wheelchair Comic-Con Contest. RULES Any ZBrushCentral member is welcome to enter the contest. One ZBrushCentral thread per artist. (Should you change your concept, the new work must continue within the original thread.) This is a ZBrush contest and emphasis will be placed on the use of ZBrush to create all assets produced for this contest. Majority of the design must be completed in ZBrush. The entrant is encouraged to show within the WIP thread the original creation of all assets. If the entrant uses assets from a third party or assets created prior to the start of this contest, this fact must be disclosed at the point in the WIP thread where the asset is first introduced. Use of any asset that would infringe upon a copyright other than Star Wars is prohibited. Any character deemed to be the same or similar (in whole or in part) to one currently published by yourself or any other artist will be disqualified. Any image deemed to contain content that depicts explicit acts that are overtly violent, sexual, cruel or brutal will be disqualified. Such entries may be closed during the WIP phases of the contest at Pixologic's sole discretion. The challenge runs from Monday, April 30th, 2018 through 11:59PM (PST) on Thursday, May 31st, 2018. The final post for your entry must be created no later than 11:59PM (PST) on Thursday, May 31st, 2018. No late entries will be accepted. An independent panel of judges from the Magic Wheelchair Organization and Thingergy Inc will be deciding the winner of the contest. Final submission must be posted in your contest thread by 11:59 PST on Thursday May 31st. Judging will take place June 1st, 2018 through June 4th, 2018. Entries may only contain the original completed work during contest scheduled timeframe and concepts of the artist(s) submitting. Only the final winning design will be unveiled during the 2018 Comic-Con. If your costume is picked as the winning design. You will be required to upload your final ZBrush Project for download by Pixologic Inc. You may use any upload system that works for you, for example, Dropbox, WeTransfer, Box, Google Drive or any other uploading service. Your file will only be used for the purpose for fabrication with the makers of this contest.. Pixologic Inc will be communicating with the winning contestant through the Private Messaging of ZBrushCentral along with sending out an email to the registered ZBrushCentral email address. Please be on the lookout for any emails or Private Messages on ZBrushCentral starting June 6th, 2018 or any time after this date. The winning design will be announced on Wednesday, June 13th, 2018. All dates are based on the U.S. Pacific Time zone. Entry and voting deadlines are at 11:59 pm PST on the date in question. The sponsors of this contest may use final or winning artwork for marketing purposes in the context of the challenge, and agree to credit the artist if any such artwork is used. All entries are the property of the respective artists. Pixologic may use submitted artwork for the purpose of promoting this or future contests. If any artist's work is used in this manner, the artist will be credited. Pixologic reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any entry that does not adhere to the spirit of ZBrushCentral and these rules. Pixologic also reserves the right to suspend, adjust the dates, modify or cancel the contest, including these rules, in any manner and at its sole discretion. This may be done with or without prior notice. In the event of a dispute, ruling will be made by Pixologic legal counsel based upon the rules laid out herein. Legal counsel's ruling will be final. Sculptris Pro in Action with Pablo Munoz Gomez
What do all of the animals above have in common? Every single one of them was sculpted from the sphere that it's standing on. They weren't placed on their spheres but rather created from the base sphere's geometry using the power of Sculptris Pro -- the new sculpting mode (just one of the many new features) included in ZBrush 2018. We are pleased to bring to you a series of time lapse videos showing the creation of these adorable creatures. Each video in this 10-part series shows the creation of a different animal. By watching them you will see exactly how this dynamic new feature allowed Pablo to break free from topology restraints and just... sculpt! Day 1 d-syrbQnvlY Day 2 He-xsdJGePA Day 3 7pxsPqbL3kA Day 4 EPwZq5haG2s Day 5 FUqNgnpvyjo Day 6 j3q5Mh8z7gI Day 7 7Cnjk1ozkkE Day 8 PEUeDoBeLXs Day 9 9UXbsa1gPic Day 10 6gE8kjCX_8M And if you haven't jumped to ZBrush 2018 yet, what are you waiting for? It's a free upgrade for all registered ZBrush users and also available for a limited time at the ZBrush 4R8 price of $795 USD.

ZBrush 2018 Has Arrived!
ZBrush is advancing yet again with the release of ZBrush 2018! Yet another FREE UPGRADE for all registered ZBrush users, ZBrush 2018 continues Pixologic's commitment to bringing innovative, workflow-revolutionizing features to the world of digital art. FZYeHlwMCCM ZBrush 2018 includes the following new key features: Sculptris Pro Mode This major new feature is an enhanced version of the dynamic tessellation system from our popular Sculptris application. It enables the artist to ignore the constraints of polygon distribution and simply – sculpt! Sculptris Pro will dynamically add (tesselate) and remove (decimate) polygons wherever and whenever it’s needed. It actually does this during your brush stroke in a real-time process called Tessimation. This frees you to focus entirely on the look you’re trying to achieve. Sculptris Pro is the perfect tool for concept artists and creative users who simply want to get an idea formed without worry about things like polygon distribution. It is also ideal for anyone using CAD, point cloud and other imported models without having to first retopologize the model or switch to DynaMesh. It is also perfect for refining a model after Live Boolean has been used, where variation in polygon density and triangulation can be a challenge with traditional methods. Additionally, it allows 3D printing users to edit models which have already been optimized before being imported back into ZBrush for quick edits. The beauty of Sculptris Pro is that it is a mode that can be enabled whenever you want and is compatible with the majority of the hundreds of sculpting brushes that ZBrush is famous for. Deformers Extended ZBrush 4R8 introduced the Gizmo 3D manipulator system which included utilities such as FFD Box, Multislice and several powerful Deformers. In ZBrush 2018 we are increasing this to a total of 27 deformers. Each deformer has a unique feature set to allow quick shape alterations that would not be possible through brush strokes. Of special note is the new Project Primitive deformer. This gives the ability to use multiple primitives to reshape a mesh, cut into a surface, build up from another mesh and much more. Not only does Project Primitive offer a new, unique way to blend multiple pieces of geometry together it also empowers you to take something as simple as a sphere and turn it into a rocket ship, automobile, plane, human bust, or nearly anything else you might imagine. PolyGroupIt This is an entirely new way to create the polygon groupings that are so essential to a smooth ZBrush workflow. PolyGroup It accurately evaluates the surface of a model in real-time, generating intelligent groupings with a single button click. Creating PolyGroups has never been so easy! What’s more, with PolyGroup It you can add or delete, copy & paste, grow or shrink, create PolyGroups symmetrically and even use PolyPaint to trace out exactly what you want your PolyGroups to look like. Other Additions Elastic and Liquid options for Curve Mode. Insert Meshes can now be rotated or smoothed along a curve. Equidistant Mesh Duplication using the Gizmo 3D. Remember Draw Size and Dynamic Mode for Brush options. New PolyGroup by Normals option. Increased output size for 3D Print Hub. Snake Hook brushes for use with Sculptris Pro. Option to save Startup Default Material. Tessimate can also be used as a stand-alone feature, outside of Sculptris Pro. OBJ Import will now accept color vertex information. QuickSaves can now be saved to any hard drive. New Activation and License Management System, powered by our My Licenses web portal. All licenses are now dual platform for both Windows and macOS. ZBrush 2018 is being released in the English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, German and French languages. To learn more about the new features, we encourage you to visit our Features pages and also to watch the tutorial videos in the ZClassroom. And of course, here is the full live stream presentation so that you can watch it again and again. Qf22ZIBhYcc *The presentation begins at 30 minutes. Free Trial Test drive the world’s most advanced digital sculpting solution. With the ZBrush 2018 free Trial you will have unlimited use of all the features found in ZBrush 2018 and complete freedom to evaluate how it can fit your needs as an artist. There are no watermarks or feature restrictions of any kind. However, this free Trial may not be used for commercial or other for-profit purposes. This Trial version requires connection to the internet every time it is launched. It will function for 45 days. To continue using ZBrush after the conclusion of that time you will need to purchase a license. Start your ZBrush 2018 Free Trial today! Upgrading As stated above, ZBrush 2018 is a free upgrade for all registered ZBrush users. Simply log into your My Licenses page to upgrade your license(s). Just follow the instructions on that page. A Pixologic ID is required in order to upgrade to ZBrush 2018, download it and also activate your software. This Pixologic ID works across on our My Licenses, Store and Support sites. Please note that our Pixologic ID system is relatively new so make sure to follow these instructions: If you have previously used My Licenses, you are good to go as soon as the upgrade becomes available. If you have not used My Licenses before, you can prepare for the upgrade ahead of time by ensuring that you have a Pixologic ID. The easiest way to do this is to try to reset your password using the same email address that your ZBrush license is linked to. This will either let you do so or it will give a message that no account exists, in which case you will have the option to register. When registering, be sure to use the email address associated with your ZBrush license. Either way, once you log in at My Licenses you should see your ZBrush serial number(s) and be able upgrade. Note: Registered users who have never upgraded past ZBrush 3.5 are still eligible for a free upgrade but cannot do so through My Licenses. Please submit a Support ticket for assistance with this upgrade. Note: Floating licenses are now available. They must be upgraded through a Support ticket. My Licenses will not work for floating license upgrades. Click Here for more info. *Note: Cross-platform add-on licenses are not eligible for upgrade. They are no longer needed because ZBrush 2018 licenses are automatically dual-platform. Nor can they upgrade as stand-alone licenses due to the fact that they were originally purchased at a steep discount. Only the original ZBrush license may be upgraded for free. New Purchases For the first three weeks following the release of ZBrush 2018, new licenses may be purchased at the current pricing of $795 USD. On April 18, 2018 the price of ZBrush will be increasing to $895 USD. (Academic pricing will also increase -- please consult with your academic reseller for specifics.) This change in price will also affect the costs of upgrading from ZBrushCore to ZBrush, as well as upgrading an academic license to a commercial license. Please do not post questions in this thread. We have created a Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 2018 thread for that purpose. Thank you to everyone who has supported Pixologic through your use of ZBrush! The many innovative ways in which you use our tools continue to inspire us on a daily basis. Happy ZBrushing!

ZBrushCentral Most Popular
ZBC-Most-Popular-Banner.jpg ZBrush is all about imagination, helping you as artists to unleash your potential and create whatever you can imagine. ZBrushCentral is a place where artists can meet and share their ideas, vision and techniques. As such, contributions both new and old are constantly capturing people's imaginations and inspiring all of us on to new heights. What better way to measure the topics and contributions that have captured your imaginations as ZBC members than what threads you tell your friends about and keep coming back to? We've been watching and there are now several threads that have been so incredibly interesting to everyone that they have racked up over 500,000 views! In fact, there's one that has topped a whopping one million visits! This is an absolutely incredible accomplishment and deserves special attention. To that end, we've created a new forum specifically for these blockbuster threads. Starting immediately and going forward we will move any Top Row thread that passes 500,000 views into this sub-forum. This will serve two great functions: First, it serves as well-deserved recognition for those artists whose contributions have been so outstanding that they've struck a chord with hundreds of thousands of their fellow members. Well done! You represent some of the absolute best of ZBrushCentral and it has been a pleasure to watch the way your work has influenced people. Second, it serves as a central place where such great contributions can be collected. Click Here for the Forum While we may be starting out with only a half dozen threads, it is our great hope that this number will swell in the coming months and years. Be assured that we will be anxiously watching for when we can move the next thread into this gallery! There are actually several well on the way. For now, please join us in congratulating these phenomenal artists. Give yourselves a pat on the back while you're at it. After all, no thread could achieve a half million views without you -- the many ZBrush users who have shown such interest in the software, the forum and these specific threads. Happy ZBrushing! Would rather model Uv map base meshes in maya and retopo it as well. But zbrush is great for recreating model details for displacement/normal/texturing. Have seen some 30k models that with the displacement and normals on it made it look like 10 million.

Annual ZBrush Awards
Every year, it is a privilege for Pixologic to recognize the very best artwork that has been shared at ZBrushCentral.com. The ZBrush Awards are given to artists that have been nominated by their peers during the course of a year, with the awards then being handed out at a special presentation at our annual ZBrush Summit. Every post from the year (between June 15 of the year preceding the Summit through June 14 of the current Summit year) will be eligible for an award! This is your chance to recognize those artists and projects that have most inspired you throughout the year. It's also the perfect excuse to explore: Take some time to scan back through ZBC's archives from the past year to discover threads and artwork that you might have missed. You may well find something that inspires you to create your own winning artwork! WHEN DOES VOTING TAKE PLACE? Voting is ongoing -- all year, every year. Simply watch for the VOTE button at the lower corner of any image to see if it's eligible for the current year's voting. ELIGIBILITY* To qualify, works must have been posted at ZBrushCentral during the current voting year. This begins on June 15th of last year and continues through June 14th of the current year. We use this schedule to give all eligible images a fair opportunity to rack up votes before the year's votes are tallied immediately prior to the ZBrush Summit that autumn. ZBrush must have been an essential part of the creation process to qualify. For collaborations (including studios), an award will be given to the group/organization as a whole and another award will be given to the individual artist whose work within the collaborative effort receives the most votes. THE CATEGORIES ARE IMAGE OF THE YEAR An individual 2D or 3D image that is outstanding overall. Images must be a finished, complete illustration. No WIP images; only completed images will qualify. Unlike "Sculpt of the Year," this category is looking at the scene's models and surroundings, both. SCULPT OF THE YEAR An individual image showing a completed sculpt that is outstanding overall. The majority of the sculpt must have been completed in ZBrush. The model does not have to be colored/textured. It can be organic or hard surface. Unlike "Image of the Year," this category is looking at the quality of the sculpting, alone. ZBRUSH TO 3D PRINT OF THE YEAR An award for work completed with ZBrush and then output to 3D Print. Jewelry, toys, collectibles, statues, large sculptures or any other pieces where the ZBrush sculpts were 3D printed are eligible. TOP ROW POST OF THE YEAR Tell the world which Top Row images were your favorite! Both Individual and Studio Threads featured in the Top Row are eligible. STUDIO THREAD OF THE YEAR Vote for your favorite work from studios (for example, in the film, game, jewelry, toy or collectibles industries). The thread must contain images from work completed within a studio pipeline. The thread must be titled with the studio name and/or project title. "Studio" is defined as any company working on a designated project. GAME ART OF THE YEAR Unlike "Studio Thread of the Year," this includes individual artists' threads showing work on a game project. It can also include any collaborative thread for a game title where several artists have posted work in one thread. Game fan art or personal sculpts of any game character do not qualify - the artwork posted must have been used within the game pipeline. FILM ART OF THE YEAR Unlike "Studio Thread of the Year," this category includes individual artists' threads showing work on a film project. It can also include any collaborative thread for a movie title where several artists have posted work in one thread. Film fan art or personal sculpts of any movie character do not qualify - the artwork must have been used within the film pipeline. Additionally, we have a special award each year: ZBrushCentral HONORARY AWARD This award is given by Pixologic in recognition of an individual who has had tremendous impact on the world of digital art. The recipient of this award may or may not be a member of ZBrushCentral. There are no nominations accepted for this award. HOW DOES THE VOTING TAKE PLACE? You must be logged into ZBrushCentral to vote. If you're not a member, you can register for free. For any eligible image on ZBrushCentral, you will see a VOTE icon overlaid at the bottom left corner. To nominate that image for the year’s ZBrush Awards, simply click the VOTE button. A pop-up window will appear with the opportunity to finalize your vote or to cancel. That's all there is to it! You don't need to worry about choosing a specific category. When all of the votes are tallied shortly before the year's ZBrush Summit, we automatically organize them according to the categories that each image or thread is eligible for. You may only vote for any individual image once, but you can vote for as many images as you wish throughout the year. This means that you don't need to worry about whether you think a particular image is better or worse in your opinion than one that you previously nominated. If you like it, vote for it! You may withdraw a nomination for any image at any time before the voting for that year's awards has been locked in. To do this, click the image's VOTE button again. Instead of the option to add your vote, you will see an option to remove your vote. Only eligible images will display the VOTE button. Don't forget to click the "Add Your Vote" button to cast your ballot! *Pixologic reserves the right to disqualify any nominated post which at its sole discretion Pixologic believes to misrepresent the way that ZBrush was used in the image's creation. All nominees must complete work using a registered copy of ZBrush, whether that copy is owned by the individual or a studio. Nominees will be required to submit verification of eligibility. Pixologic reserves the right to modify the ZBrush Awards program at any time and without notice.

Free ZTL Model from Nick Zuccarello (new VIDEO page 9 added 8/7/08)
Free ZTL Model Donated by Nick Zuccarello When I interviewed NickZ back in June he mentioned that he was working on a full-figure follow up to the human head model that he offers through Gnomonology. I've been privately keeping an eye out ever since, waiting to snatch up a copy of the model just as soon as it became available. There was no doubt that Nick was going to do an amazing job with it. Well, that day has now arrived, but with a huge surprise. Even though its creation has taken him three years of love and hard work, Nick Zuccarello is generously donating the model to the ZBrushCentral community! Talk about an amazing level of community involvement! Here are the particulars concerning this creation, as presented by him: Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Click Here to Download (63 MB WinRAR File) (You must be a registered ZBC member and logged in to download.) Additional versions for non-ZBrush 3 users, in WinRAR download format: Subdivision Level 1 OBJ Subdivision Level 2 OBJ Subdivision Level 3 OBJ Subdivision Level 4 OBJ Subdivision Level 5 OBJ ZBrush 2 Version ZTL Please be sure to thank Nick for this incredible contribution. It really is a top-flight example of why ZBrushCentral was created in the first place. Thank you, NickZ! icon

I got to sit in the throne last year. Very cool to see a version of it created your way, in ZBrush. I wouldn't have thought of using a Tri-Part Insert Brush in that way. Ingenious!
