Final entry (extra views)
here's a render with the final subtools split out. one of the porgs have been keyed, with the legs standing on the rockbase. and finally here's the different passes i used for the final picture. -mostly a lot of variations of the beauty render. -r

evening all! i did a bit more work on the cliffs. tools used: trim brushes, hpolish, crumple (love that one for doing rock surfaces) and damstandard. i probally used a few more, but those where the main brushes. after doing the four "sections" i dynameshed them and hollowed them out. next, i'll align them with each other and cut off overlapping parts and start thinking of smart places for the keys. -r

here a little update on the cliffs. i started with a cube, and tested some of the deformers, mostly just for fun. the main shaping tool was trim dynamic brush. -r

thanks a lot all of you! gabo1991: i really didn't think of that. well i best cross my fingers and hope they saw the last jedi. here's a little more progress. i did a base for the porgs. the body was made using the good old dynamesh, and then i remeshed that to get a lighter base. the legs i tackled a bit differently. this might not be the smartest workflow, but i tried a different approach than i normally do and therefore learned something new. (yes! it is more or less my first time using the poly modeling tools.... -shame on me).. i did a small breakdown of the process. next time, i'll start looking on the cliffs. -r

Great start. Love the Jabba idea but I would definitely lean more towards the porgs. However, I would be concerned how many of the kiddos would know these guys.

Porgs on Ahch-To - rasmusW
i think it's about time i start learn some new zbrush trickery and what better occasion than a contest for a fantastic initiative. i haven't really decided on a concept yet. i dabble between two ideas. first one is arch-to populated with porgs and lukes lightsaber. the other is "jabba's throne". i made some very crude sketches to give a better idea. have fun everyone. -r

-well i guess this is another "final"... heheh i tweaked the base after seeing it on a different monitor. malc2304: thanks a lot. i tweaked the base. hope it shows better now. i also posted a pict of my maya scene setup. -it's nothing fancy, i guess. i'm pretty new to v-ray, so i'm sure there is plenty of room for improvements. i hope it's useful, to you anyway. Captain Cartesian: thanks. glad you think so. -sorry to say, there's not gonna be any fur on this.. Francis Bezooyen: heheeh.. thanks for all the good crits. glad you like it. and ye, there's surely something about the monitor calibrations too. but i fixed the base, and i think it's better now. -so all good. i'll render a turntable of it, for sure. dandan: thank you so much. -ye, printing would be cool. really looking forward for your next sculpt. -Storm-: thanks frederik. your new characters looks fantastic. hi all! i have worked on this piece for quite some time an now i feel confident in showing it to the rest of you lot. i took reference from all of the various versions of comic book abe and added a little of my own ideas to him as well. the modeling part is done for now, only with a few tweaks here and there (-mainly on getting the pose all the way). last things is exporting maps, geo and rendering. the first of the three is where the pose is atm. hope you like it. c&c is ofcause very much welcome. -r
