In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. Oh Hai.
I just finished and submitted my Scholarship Demoreel and portfolio for Qantm College Brisbane.
This is basically a summary of the best stuff I've done over my gap year. About a third of it was done while I was still in year 12.

Hey man. Did you already do a Quantm course or are you going to do one. Which one. Im doing the Diploma next year in Feb. Your work looks good for how young you are. I was only drawing when I was your age so I missed a lot of years of modeling but I guess...
The Manager - Tribute to Luis Antonio's "The Interview"
Well I saw the top row thread, Luis Antonio's "The Interview"
So I tried testing myself to see If a 17 year old bum could create something as good as the lead artist of Ubisoft.

Looking good, did u render it in 3ds max?
Btw it looks like we have alot in common considering im a 17 year old living in the gold coast and want to go to quantm
Just a bunch of my best stuff. Thought I should put them all in one spot.

I finished the animating and rendering for my Film and Television assignment today. I stayed home from school to do it.

Its avant-garde so if your weirdly freaked out then successful me is successful

Made a niec Background today
Should probably get onto the animating. Gotta do all of it tomorrow (sad face)
I always get too sidetracked with sculpting.

Here's an old turntable I recently uploaded. He doesn't have arms and it is the old texture but oh well

Currently working on the background.

I should probably be doing my film and television assignment (last school assignment EVER) but once i start something i really want to finish it. So heres an update. Been working on it non stop since the last post.
Body_quickRender.jpg
Just a typical alien, but he has a cool name
Coeus - God of intellect and the axis of heaven around which the constellations revolved.
Did all this in about 4 hours

K, well I haven't done anything as school is back in, but for my Film and Television assignment im doing a 3d anaglyph stereoscopic film vortex thing. So I learnt how to make things 3D!!! You need red and cyan glasses (red is left)
Bane_3D.jpg
Last semester of year 12 starts tomorrow so I did a bit of work on the body.
Heres a WIP - Criticism welcome. Im not an expert on anatomy.
Body WIP1.jpg
It may not loko like much progress, but I have been fiddling around for 2 hours finding what looks best, and finally I have it. I'm gonna do a sketch of the body and start work on it soon.
Hood WIP2realism.jpg
Well I quickly sculpted a hood yesterday to test lighting, and finally figures out by myself why the shadows weren't working properly.
So here is the hood:
Hood WIP1.jpg
And Here is the Head with shadows. I modified the ears so theyre looking much better now thanks to a guy on 4Chan /3/.
WIP Head 5.jpg
Thanks heaps for that help, but keep in mind the character I am modeling originally came from a comic, and is a 2.1 meter tall bodybuilder who has been working in the mines for 25 years and has had many fights. The black outlines gave me a good idea on what to work on. I haven't changed much but I rendered a turntable to give a better perspective on what he looks like currently. The orthographic made him a bit dis-proportioned in my opinion.
Here is a collection of references of Darth Bane I got from
stranger86 on deviantart

And here is the turntable:

Here are my suggestions for improvement:
WIP Head4a.jpg
Your eyes and eyesockets are the main issue. The black lines indicate where you should pay more attention to the underlying anatomy.
Hope that helps.
Note that this is...
Bane_thumbnail.jpg
Well Ive pretty much completed the head. Just need to fix the eyes a bit, and
add a hoodie. Maybe create the rest of the body too if I don't get bored.
CRITICISM IS WELCOME!!! srsly I need criticism to know what Im doing wrong. I honestly am shocking with proportions.
WIP Head3.jpg
Did 2 hours of Cintique 12WX wrinkle sculpting today. Coming along nicely. Any critique would be good now, but keep in mind, the cheekbones are meant to be defined.
WIP head2.jpg
Well, anyone who knows who he is had most likely read the book and loved it. I myself have read it 8 times, and it is my favourite book of all time, so I have decided to sculpt a tribute to the most badass sith in the history of Star Wars.
No real need to critique just yet as Ive only just started (unless there is something major)
Here's a start.
WIP head1.jpg
Here is my reference. Im not trying to duplicate this but it is the closest representation of the book I've seen.

I FINALLY FINISHED YAY!
It took forever to render in HD. Seriously, it took about an hour per second.
Take a look:

Just a rifle I made in about 7 hours. It was sort of a test of what Shadowbox could do. Shadowbox + Clip brushes = a big *$% you to 3DS Max.
ZBrush Rifle1.jpg

Im going to retopologize it and put it into unreal tournament 3 once my 2 assignments are done. It'll probably be done next week.
Criticism is welcome, although I'm not an expert on gun technicalities. Keep in mind this is for ut3 and if you want to criticize my gun practicality, then go criticize the flak cannon. I'm going for the "cool" more than the "real".
I might actually call it the "shadowbox" cuz it sounds cool.
I finalised the model and set him up for Animation in 3D Stuido Max 2011.
I didn't fix the UVs for the nose because i really don't have time.
Now I need to record the audio and animate about 35 seconds of him talking, after i fix a few problems with the head doing the opposite of everything i tell it to with the bones.

I think the armor came out too organic and looks a bit like clay. Would be cool to have something more hard-surface and more defined with a metal armor look. My opinion of course.
Check out these two examples for armors:...
