Hi, I’m in the process of diving into CG/3D at the moment and I’m trying to get the best feature set and workflow with the least amount of software. I’m currently considering ZBrush + Maya. From what I understand that looks to be the most complete package. I was also considering Cinema 4D or Blender as an alternative to Maya.
My main question is with the combination of ZBrush & Maya, will I be able to do everything? From matte painting, 2D/3D paint, motion graphics to matchmoving so that it would eliminate the need to get other packages such as Bodypaint and PFTrack for example?
Secondly the main reason why I am currently leaning torward to decision to go with Maya instead of C4D or Blender is because of render quality. I’m looking for realism and I haven’t found that in C4D’s renders. I have actually found better examples done with Blender, but I havn’t seen anything that has compared to the Zbrush + Maya + Mental Ray combo so far.
Personally I would like to choose Zbrush + C4D because I love the C4D interface. Is there anyone who uses the ZB + C4D, or ZB + Blender combo that could give some insight with examples? Anyway aside from Blender being free I see it as quite the heavy contender so that is why I have considered it, it’s getting powerful really fast. I would greatly appreciate some more opinions from other users. Thank you!
BTW, I’m talking about ZBrush v2 on Mac since Z3 isn’t and option for me yet. I have the Adobe suite. After Effects will be used for compositing.
