I have just started taking classes in zbrush and I need a new computer because my present mac isnt an intel ( even though it’s a G5)-which zbrush3 demands, so I have to get a new mac I can’t decide between the new mac pro quad 2.6 gh with 2 gig ram or the intel imac 24" with 2 gig of ram. I am told the imac will do but I am terrifired that it will be redundant in two years like this present one is.
Any advice out there for me
iMacs are due a new version very soon so be careful there, but they will run ZB3 with ease. The only advantage of an iMac is you won’t have to buy a screen. The new Macpros are just out, so from that point of view I would go Macpro. Add to this the Macpros expandability in the future i.e 16Gb of ram 3Tb of storage & I think you’ll find you can’t really go wrong, the only issue could be cost as you will need a monitor too…
I have a Quad 3.0Ghz with 8Gb of ram, but at the moment I’m stuck using ZB3 with either Bootcamp or Parallels. But that said even running in Parallels performance is good as Bootcamp gives you better performance but you have to reboot, which can be a pain if your other apps are all native Mac. I just can’t use all my ram until Leopard & ZB3 for Mac are out, but I have no choice to wait…
A Quad 2.6Ghz with 2Gb of ram will eat ZB3 for breakfast plus you have the option for a lot more ram later on & ZB3 loves ram…
