Can you post the wires? It will be easier to advise if we know what there is to play with.

Myself, I’d get them ‘blocked in’ right off the bat with the edge loops. Those ‘pretty recesses’ wouldn’t even be there until it looked more like a car

You’re using the ZModeler brush You can insert points, add edges and lots of other things with this new tool.
Learning can be frustrating though.
