Rendering out the facial animation test at 1280x720 right now, with my 4GB of ram, it goes out of memory pretty quick if I do much. Especially when playing with zbrush and other stuff aswell

I’m not sure about how to do video in this forum ( couldnt find anything about it in the faq  ), so i’ll post the link to my video atm:

Finally it is here, the awesome movie with a plot that isnt. “AlienDude”, a movie about AlienDude. He’s able to blend with the environment, fly spaceship and make a weird noise.

Took me a couple of months, December now ^_^ AlienDude, The Movie: [<iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/17969075" width="400" frameborder="0" height="225"></iframe>](http://vimeo.com/17969075)[AlienDude](http://vimeo.com/17969075) from [VictorCS](http://vimeo.com/victorcs) on [Vimeo](http://vimeo.com).

My latest sculpt I’ve been working on this month. I set the deadline to Xmas Eve, I didnt finish the lowres, even tho I have the lowres I’m abou to project highres on. But struggling a bit with the projecting thing.

Here’s a turnable, will get a render out tomorrow aka today with him on a roof falling. I just need to polish the pose. First time I’ve worked with cloth wrinkles too

Been working on this for a week, little sculpt I will put in one of those glassbottles in my lab i’m working ( slowly ) on. My goal was to try make something organ like.

Sculpted a new face, polypainted in ZBrush. I was able to do this much faster than the last, sculpting, painting and different morphs, rigging and animation was done over a period of 3 days. I had a little setback because of normalmap issues. Hair is flickering, looking into that problem atm.

Hey, man, way to keep at it

Your anatomy needs some serious focus time, it’s off in numerous ways. Take some time and study references and other people’s sculpts that you like, comparing it to your work and see what you can improve. Your heads are better than your bodies, but they’re still in need of refinement. Try to nail down anatomy before you try animation and hair. Start small, maybe focusing on a torso, then legs, then arms. Building a good foundation is pretty critical.

As far as the facial animation goes – its a decent start, but i’m not sure I could accurately name all the emotions you were trying to express. The movement of the head as a whole is also distracting, it seems to float around the screen.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news  Keep at it

It’s not bad news, it means there is room for alot of improvement

I personally can’t stand the claytubes brush — can’t figure out how to get it do do anything but put ugly blocky lines all over the place

Glad to hear you’re doing some anatomy studies, I bet they’ll really help!

Incidentally, in the most recent bust, its a bit on the charicature side with stretched proportions (long, thin face, low mouth, and protruding muzzle – not that I’m qualified to lecture on anatomy).

Also you may be finding yourself in a form rut… the face feels familiar next to earlier works in this thread. I’ve had this happen when the representation of a particular feature is done out of rote instead of an understanding of the form. eg, always drawing mouths a certain way, right or wrong. Sometimes I think its a default self-portrait effect (Residual Self-Image?) that happens when you don’t use a reference, so try to use one. Also, while working on face anatomy, try to find features that are notably different each time – I think you’ll build up a larger library of options while getting a better feel for the process in general.

oofnish: I’ve been lazy about using reference images for faces and else, and yes, i should start using references alot more.

I’ve finally started to work with reference images, whatever I do I try to have a reference image up. Inbetween bodypart sculpting and drawing, I managed to do this little bust ( another bust, again  ), reference images was of John Hannah ( Batiatus from Spartacus ), doesnt look much like him tho

Just a little practice and testing out a stone wall tutorial yesterday ( just had to after seeing all that beautiful scenery in TR: Underworld ). A brick has 6 different sides, and all can be flipped vertically or horizontally. One brick, alot of variations.

if did not know that there where only six possible sides on that brick corner i would not have noticed, Great job. :+1:

I just noticed my texture seems a bit similare, probably because I had one single I dragged from the middle and out on all sides.

That guy looks like Freeza from Dragon Ball Z.

I see some similarities in Freeza, but he never was in my head when doing “Iam”

Been trying to complete my “Experimental Lab” project I started last year, adding some objects to make the scene a bit more complex. I decided I wanted a tank in the end of the room with a speciment. So I sketched this one up pretty fast earlier today, added som color, and put him behing glass that i’m still tweaking:

I started this “project” back in Mars 2010, I actually named the bluegreen guy Mars2010, I like to name stuff year and date when I dont have a name. Anyway, finally found some time to finish it, and learned how to unwrap uvs with 3D max while creating boxes. A tad inspired by Dharma Initiative’s “old” movies and cloneing facilities seen in different movies.

All creatures in the scene are sculpted and textured in ZBrush, the hard surfaces was done in 3DMax. Final adjustments in Photoshop.

The Experimental Lab.jpg

Wow nice job over all. I just would like to highlight that the hair you did for John is just awesome. What software did you use? What is the rendering and the lighting settings of scenes?

I used hair&fur, so nothing fancy. I played around with frizz and kink parameters to make it look rough. There are some problems with his “sideburns” tho. At first I wasnt convinsed by hair&fur, but I played more and more with it, and it’s pretty good when you first get the hang of it.

The lighting on all my busts are usually 3 lights, omni lights, one strong and one weaker infront of the bust, then a filler in the back. And then 2-3 white bounch planes as one can see in Iam’s eyes.

Within the experimental lab I had a bunch, 8 in the roof, one infront the creatures to make em a bit brighter, a blue from the end of one side of the room, and a orange on another side, 4 blue lights under the cabinets and one white from the “monitor”. 13-14 hours to render at 3840x2400.
