hello can anyone describe the step by step process involved with breaking a single object up into nameable groups(within uv mapper)? like say i had a single leg for example, made of the same material and wanted to create a foot, shin and thigh out of it… there have been a couple of threads that touched upon it lightly such as the sumo zspere but have mainly been dedicated to texture mapping for photoshop. any information would be greatly appreciated and informative to most… to create your own figures…

Hi Adam,
I use UV Mapper Pro but hopefully things are in the same place as shown below for the non Pro version if that is what you have. If not, at least you’ll know what to look for.

You will then need to save the model (from the file menu). I always save mine with a different file name so I don’t overwrite the original.
I hope that is what you wanted to know.
yes thats it exactly i think thank you vikki… so all those groupings will be remembered? I think the thing i didn’t do was to color them. it drove me kind of nuts last night, i got all lost with the triangulating sub polygoloniumisms… even though the controls are simple they still add up .
In order for everything to be remembered you have to save the model/obj. When you change a model/obj in UV Mapper, it becomes a new model/obj and must be saved and that is the one that you will use from then on out. I do always save with a new file name just in case I need the original for whatever reason.
You don’t need to view the Groups by Color, it just makes it easier to see what’s what.
yeah i just tried it on a lumpy sphere i streched out into three groups and spawned all props works great!!! thanks again this will make life so much easier being able to concentrate on characters instead of doing things over and over again
