thanks for the suggestions guys, tried to implement some of them
Great suggestion about the flesh/goggle interaction.
Heres a new render with some minor tweaks.

Almost finished this thankfully.
Any last minute suggestions would be appreciated before I call this done.

Wow great update! I had to stare at this for a long time to find anything I didn’t like lol. The nose is a bit too red. Congratulations on such an impressive model. Top Row material!
that is awesome hope to get on this level one day…
Great improvement on that last image compared to the previous one. Lots of little tweaking that made a huge difference. Especially for the eyes, I think.
Good stuff!
Very nice
looks pretty nice man
but the skin looks plastic due to the same spec all over the face(also the sss looks a bit strong…cause the surface looks like wax) …the tooth looks a little like metal…and the armor maybe too shine…it totally turn white under the light…well…just my two cents
overall it’s looking nice
keep up the good work man;)
fark that looks awsome dude
really like the recent update you did to the geo, really great gesture/pose. And that last update is sick, really nice texturing and rendering… love the inclusion of hair and the really tight spec work you got going on
killer folio/show peice man ^___^
Wow that Merc is stunning! some great details there. I would only suggest some more variation in his short hair length and a bit more scruffiness to it.
Great work. Maybe add some veigns and more irregularitys in the subdermal layer?
looking really good … i like your textures … keep it up
Thanks for all the suggestions. I think im about to call this done and move on to the next project.
Its been fun and I’ve appreciated the feedback.
Heres the final.

Merc should get top row now! Great work.

Wow this has come a long way Chris
Congrats on another fine image.
Top RoW!!small_orange_diamond
awesome bro…top row stuff.this goes straight to my inspiration folder…now please share the rendering and light set up bro…cause i am also planning to do smthing like this…pleaseeee
I’m sure there’s probably something to critique there, but I sure don’t see it! Awesome work!
Nice work!
Few crits coming up. Don’t kill me.
I think the metal armour and the goggles could need some slight HDR reflections, the highlights are only popping up with specularity now. Also maybe some text or stickers on the armor could make it more personal.
The face looks very nice, but it think could have some small scars or scabs, oil stains not overdone and cheesy like the ‘scar tearing and blinding up one eye’ thing though. Also maybe some damage on the teeth? He is a soldier after all. The blood splatters look great.
The noisy greyscale background works in a way, but maybe something more ‘creative’ solution could also make the image pop more.
Anyway… great stuff!
nice - the one thing that kinda bugs me is the skin fold on the forehead where the goggles are pressing down. The skin on the forehead is so stretched over the sculpt that nothing like that would happen, unles he lifted his eyebrows high up and in this case he’s doing the opposite… when you look at pictures of people with goggles that are tight the forehead is unaffected [apart from a slight impression]
Thanks for the comments and I’ll post up some light setups later.
susia: Aw I wish I had these crits before I finished him off. All very good
points.
Hi Magdalena, Thanks for the feedback your totally right about that, it defiantly would have looked better if the skin wasn’t bunched out so much.
Sweet stuff…Loved the cthulhu.Love the merc. It’s come a long way, and i love the textures and light setup on the final render.
