TABLET - Paint Blobs - Optimized Settings - nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

Any of you more tech savvy will advise any optimized settings
(if needed) It’s a dedicated card - nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

Hi!

Are you having trouble with the pressure sensitivity for your tablet in Zbrush? A screenshot might be helpful. What kind of tablet is it? Your video card won’t have much effect on Zbrush performance, but there may be issues associated with certain types of tablets.

Pen Display Huion GT221 Pro
I deleted my initial question and image because the inconsistent was so different than the Tablet App and Photoshop results a PC restart had better results.

The Pen Display App and Photoshop work as expected, but ZBrush needs some kind of setting balance.

Since there are 3 different areas to set tablet settings (that I’m aware of) I would like to learn where to control Pen Opacity.

trying to get Tablet to control Brush Size not opacity

  • RGB 25 (consistent flow)
  • Pen Pressure control Brush Size

Thanks!

OK, too many issues at once here.

You can change the brush pressure sensitivity for size and color independently in the Brush> Tablet menu by adjusting their curves. However, the 3d brushes are different from the 2.5d brushes or the brushes in a 2d program like Photoshop. They will not behave the same way in every respect. They will always have an airbrushy buildup, even when using a non-pressure sensitive mouse.

There are other ways to achieve washes of consistently transparent color, though. You could paint a mask, invert it, then apply color with the RGB channel selected, and the Color> Fill function with the RGB intensity set to the desired value. You could use ZApp Link to paint with the actual photoshop brushes. You could use the 2.5D brushes with Projection Master, or the natural media 2.5d brushes in Paintstop–those will both behave much more like the 2d brushes in an image editor, although using them is limited to working on a static view of your mesh, and not a live 3d mesh.

However, the more serious issue is that your pressure sensitivity doesn’t look like it is functioning correctly. Is this because of changes you made to it will trying to achieve this effect? Or is this the way it always is?

Some things to be aware of:

  • I don’t know which Huion uses, but on PC, Zbrush specifically requires a tablet that supports Wintab:
  • Here is a link to a thread where Auric explains, as well as another Huion user that was able to correct their issues by adjusting the tablet properties.

  • Another thing that can cause tablet issues on Windows are the Flicks. I’ve seen other Huion resources that advise disabling these.
