T-Recks

Its great to have ambitions and that you wanna get top row is also good. Though, this still need a lot of work to get there. I know you are not done of course.

Mainly the anatomy doesn’t feel natural. All the muscles and definitions feel a little random. Also the head is a tad to big for me. Also combined with the torso area I think it sticks out to far as well, so it does not feel balanced.
Your arms, feel a little flat, though that might be a perspective thing.
Feet also needs work. Feel flat. My suggestion would be to stop doing detailing, untill you have your base and basic forms blocked fully out.

I also don’t like the spikes thats just over his eyes. Maybe there is also a tad to many? But thats maybe just my taste.

Well I’m deciding on how to go about the body. I was thinking either, sticking to the concept or go for more realistic dinosaur proportions because if you see on the first page of this thread this isn’t your everyday dinosaur.

Alright so I keep getting comments on fixing the anatomy a little bit, but idk how to tackle the body. If anyone can do a paint over for me using these images for me that would be great.

Here is an update on the legs and anatomy of this creature. Enjoy and critiques are always welcome.

Alright I finally got the leg proportions how I want them and they look a whole lot better. Enjoy!

Can anyone tell me if I am heading in the right direction with these arms. I’ve looked at a bunch of references of the arms of godzilla, v-rex from king kong, and t-rex.

For the anatomy, you need to find some reference pictures.
I always use pictures of horses for leg muscles like these, you do not have to copy them, but they do give you a solid base so you can build from there to keep it realistic-looking.
So just go looking for reference photos that would be able to give you a hint.

I second Slice’s advice. It may sound tough, but ultimately it’s up to you to decide on the “right” direction for your sculpts. If you have concepts, you can follow them to the letter if you choose… and whether you use concepts or not, I think Slice’s advice to look at animal musculature can prove very effective. Being a dinasaur, I would personally look at lizard, bird, snake or even bug features/structures. That said, you can apply (and learn) a lot from mammal anatomy as well. Good luck!

PS. It may sound like I’m turning your words back on you, and I understand that developing a sculpture/character can be difficult, stressful and confusing. Luckily it can also be fun too, and you seem persistent to get a good result :+1: Hang in there!

Alright I took some of your guys’ advice and looked up some bull and horse anatomy pics. With some helpful insight from a i r I also made the snout smaller and the I messed with the bottom jaw some more. I think I did a pretty good job on it so far. Let me know what you think.

Update on the neck.

Reminds me of Damir G. Martin’s Carnotaurus…

Fantastic sculpt!, Love the textures.

Here is a wip of the body. I have mainly been working on the midsection and arms. Please if you have any critiques on the anatomy post them!

Wow you’ve improved a lot in technique sense the beginning of this topic.

Probably what bothers me most about this is how off balance it is. The head and neck are very thick, and then it thins out a lot in the body area.

The general backside kinda bothers me but I guess it could just be because of the absence of spikes.

Leg anatomy is my next concern. I would suggest looking at various reconstructions of t-rexes as well as muscle diagrams. Maybe you could reference real world animals to an extent but I can’t think of many other things besides birds that had to hold themselves in that posture.

Is this more proportional?

Alright after working for hours upon hours to get the proportions right here is the result. I was mainly paying attention to overall shape of the mid section, neck and head, and legs. There are still some tweaks that need to be made but here it is.

the proportions still feel quite far off, i took the pic and did a quick liquify on it… its rough but the proportions are allot closer i think… i hope this helps

Hey guys I finished up the midsection a couple of days ago and wanted to show you guys how it is looking so far. Please tell me if you think the sculpt is doing justice to the concept so far.

This looks great!!
Seems real close to the artwork, but it does kinda seem that the shoulders are riding a lil close to the mid rib instead of at the base of the neck.
also the ref seems that the “crotch” is riding a lil lower then the knees.
