marcus_civis…using glow in your material was a nice idea…

and in this render i pasted a “glow” channel and a…can u guess ?

jantim

if u want to try…here’s the materialplasticglow02.jpgplasticglow04.jpgplastic-glow001.zip (13.7 KB)plastic-glowor-horizon.zip (12.6 KB)

jantim,
Looks great! Environment reflection?

nope…gradient sky…you have settings for :sky,earth,and horizon-blur…its one of the materials i never use (d) !

jantim

wow jantim, tahat first one looks so good :]

Ah! So, a whole new set of jantim materials is on the way?!

Finally the right material for my pink flamingo

Now we are getting closer to the image that started this thread…i hope
The material looks kinda SSS , there is a midsection sharpness in the render -thanks to TVeyes tip-and its all rendered in Zbrush with a contrastsetting of 21%…i only blurred some edges in Photoshop for cosmetic reasons .
The composition is not as strong as the original from Thomaskl-his camera seems to sit right in the action- but its all a fraction of the cost of Vray !

Sweet thread guys! :sunglasses:

…this one looks a bit “fishy” !

its one material…a tweaked fog-curve does the rest !

I like to learn, great…thank you ! too… :o

you`re damn close Jantim ! roXX.
I think, when you do test this shader on a more complex object, it will look better and better…Really cool !

I would love to test this material on a really complex character ! Who`s got a cool model for Jantims SSS Shader ???

Thomaskl

A couple of tries -

Jantim: Some very cool materials. I especially like the one in post #67 for its texture. I guess you figured out that for certain things baking requires a single layer.

Blaine91555: It is pretty addictive is it not ? The two last ones are my favourite.

I got a bit lost with this attempt. It just turned out slimy with a narrow highlighted rim, which I guess with a little good faith could be seen as SSS. Especially if you squint your eyes REAL hard  I think I will try a combination of Marcus_Civis’ and WingedOne’s techniques next. I included the material and lighting so people could try out the baking concept. Although I also baked in the previous picture this time it was more planned. Before it was a gradual refining of the image and now it is a simple two step aproach that seperates two render components, the diffuse lighting and shadows vs. all the other stuff.

“A very impressive render!”…TVeyes…it looks a bit like the avatar-image you use on the CGtalkforum…is that Zbrush rendered ?
I did not bake the material in the #67 render:D …but i used a global-specular image at 30%…that mixes the material with nice colors!
Speaking of global specularity : the tooltips state that ONLY the intensity values of the image are used e.a. as in a black and white picture,…but i can see clearly the colors of the image in the render-as in a light-gel- can you explain this to me ?..All knowing and seeing TVeye
I see in your render there is no remedy to the line-artefact that ambient occlusion- materials make !..i one of my renders you see a sort of grid-pattern:cry:

i will try the method in your post…thanks :+1:

jantim

Thank you Jantim glad you liked it but I still prefer the first picture/technique. I am going to try my hand at combining Marcus_Civis’ and WingedOne’s examples to a 1 or 2 pass material. But knowing you, you will probably have a super material ready before I get to subdivide the next cube.

The CGtalk avatar was rendered 4-5 years ago in Lightwave ( I changed to another avatar 2-3 weeks ago btw;)). Apart from Zbrush I have been renderless for about 2 years, probably why I love the ZBrush renderer so much. I of course also use photoshop for tuning colors and effects.

About the global Diffuse and Specular I seem to remember they acted differently in 1.55b and below. Now it seems you must also have a diffuse or specular value in your material for either to show. You are right about the color values from the specular. My memory is very hazy on that one but I believe something also changed there. A quick Texture > Alpha > Texture conversion will remove the color for use in the global specular, the same will a Texture : Gradient Colorize with black and white color values. So I guess it just means we have more possibilities now?

Looking forward to see what you and everyone else comes up with, and I hope Thomaskl forgives us for totally hijacking his thread

Edit: Let me test this “all knowing all seeing” thing out Jantim. Lets see…hmm… you are wearing pink underwear? You are !!! Hey it does work. Jantim wears pink underwear.

Now THAT is how to stop any further “all knowing all seeing” comments coming my way Jantim  TVeyes just means I am blind as a bat from staring at a monitor all day.

Inspirated and curious I started this material with all sliders set to zero.
One pass render in ZB

TVeyes, Thanks :+1: My eyes now focus at exactly the distance I am from my monitors. Anything before or after I need glasses:laughing:

Cool render Bas :+1: I don’t know why I’ve never started with everything at zero:o Makes perfect sense. I’m finding many sliders do nothing visible and I waste many hours moving the same ones over and over again with the same negative results :grimacing: Wait a minute - isn’t that the definition of insanity:grimacing:

Tveyes, you must do some zcript or a better short movie, i cant do anything good looking using your metod. I wanted to post a example, but it would have been a waste of space  after loading your curve its way to colorfull, cant see anything of the original shape, after traing to tweak the setting i only make things worst
