SketchUp

Well, I was impressed… Check out the videos in the Training section…

Wow! Thats some pretty cool stuff. Too bad I am at work and can’t check out the videos.
You better believe I will DL a trail though… :D.
Thanks Kaz!

Took about an hour to get familiar with it then to create this…My house:

Can the program export to a 3d .dxf or .obj format?

Yes, but sometimes with strange results. Here is my house in ZBrush:

It was exported as a DXF, but you can also do 3ds. As you can see it is mirrored, don’t know why. Some other models I have tried to export to DXF and import into ZBrush did not come in at all, or I just got a flat geometric shape of some kind…

Hi Kaz
The mirror problem is explain in this :
Each program have his own orientation system X Y Z of world coordinates.
The normalisation is not common in the informatics world !
So for you it’s not a big problem
A *** Go to to your first program
2 solutions
first tricky : you manipulate the X,Y world coordinates
second rustic : but easy  you make a mirror of your project and re-save it !
B *** May be you can manipulate preference X Y in Zbrush.
Have happy XYZ manipulations

WOW!!! I love architecture and this is so cool. It´s so intuitive and easy to use that could be called “ZBrush Architectural v.1.5” I will surely use this in my future blueprints and designs.
Here is a ~15 minute doodle…the first of many more!

I checked this out a while back when looking at some CAD solutions. Once you get the hang of it it really does let you “sketch” architectural drawings quickly and easily.

I would consider it like this:
Sketchup is to CAD design what Zbrush is to 3D modeling.

I get emails occasionally from their mailing list also - they seem like a very cool company also. Very “human.”

Also check out their real time shadows (with time and date light sourcing) - very fun stuff.

I saw them run their demonstration at Macworld and after seeing this thread about it I decided to download the demo last night and give it a whirl.

Pretty nifty stuff. It might make a good complement to ZBrush in my set of tools.

hi! just a question, seen the house of Kaz: it’s possible with sketch up, to draw editables curves, export trhem, and edit in otherprograms?in other world, more simple ,easier, than illustrator? or I don’t understand anything at sketchiup? Thanks, friendly , M.
