Sculpting Lion-O of the Thundercats

So I decided to start modeling Lion-O from the Thundercats. I enjoyed the series quite alot as a kid and figured I would give it a shot. I still have a very long way to go, but I figured I would post it so far to see how you guys think Im doing. I started this model like an escorche sculpture using Scott Eaton’s techniques which I like quite alot. My ultimate goal is to continue to learn anatomy and get some nice pieces in my portfolio in the process. C&C is always welcome of course, so fire away…

UPDATE:

Here is a most recent version. There are more images towards the bottom of thread

should’ve referenced a bit more :stuck_out_tongue: the glove is all wrong lol and the face needs painting (pet peeve lol soz) but other than that i think it looks really good

gloves basically has three fingers and the thumb with the jeweled knuckles

i’d love to see the progress

wow nice catch. I cant believe I didnt notice that, and I actually have that ref image you posted:cry: . I havent started adding the make up just the basics to get an idea. I still have so much sculpting to do I figured I would save that for last. Im gonna fix that glove right now. Thanks again:D

New updates:
I changed the pose based on some feedback I got from a friend. I also fixed the glove and added some extra stuff. I still have to develope a number of things, but the hair will probably be my next target. Any C&C welcome…

hey Visions

It’s getting there on the second version. I also loved this cartoon and though I would check some ref.

I think your pose needs a bit more work.

look at this image

It’s so dynamic and everyone loves it when he transforms thunder… thunder…THUNDERCATS …RARRRRRRRR, err sorry couldn’t resist

Anyway I will keep a keen eye on your progress.

Thanks scottleroc, I am admitedly having issues posing the character. I have tried another pose, and am going to do a few more. What do you guys think of the following pose. I tired to make it alot more dynamic.

Hey Vsions
I think thats on the way for sure. The trouble with action hero stuff is that it is all about the pose  so it’s bound to be hard to nail. Once you do nail it, which I think you are on the way to doing, the model will really come to life. From the front he really looks ready for action.

Good progression, keep up the good work. Look forward to the next step :+1:

Hi everyone, new updates. Started adding some details and the hair. Still have alot I want to add, but Im hoping to finidh the sculpt by this weekend and paint it over the weekend. Kinda hard and I have been trying to squeeze it in between freelance work. Anyway I hope you enjoy it:)

More updates soon!

Hello Vsions, good job on his hair!!! looks really good.
Pose is better then before, though he looks slightly evil, is that intentional?
looking forward to the final model!

Vsions - that’s really coming on now man. He looks bad ass. Well done.

I think the only thing I would comment on is the glove. One of the fingers seems to be lost in the masonary. Maybe you could just raise it up so it looks more like its resting on the stone.

Just an idea anyway it looks great anyway. keep going man.
:+1:

Thundercats are GOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Nice pose man, looking forward to the finished piece!

@omnilight- Thank you I appreciate it, actually Im not exactly trying to make him look evil, but I did want him to look dark and intense. Like hes almost beserk in the rage of battle but still somewhat in control.

@scottleroc- Thank you, your comments on the pose were spot on and really helped me to sit and rethink his pose. His gloved hand is actually not done. Hes is going to be crushing the pillar so I still have to do that. His sword hand needs to be developed also.

@Maxim_fleury- Thanks  I am looking forward to finishing also… soon

Latest updates, I am nearing completion and am going to start painting the model. After Im done with that, Im going to add Snarf. I think he will be a pretty cool contrast to the rest of the piece. Of course any C&C is welcome and I will posting more images and a turntable soon. Later…

hey man, looks good, like the structure of fabric on his cloths. The furry hand is maybe a bit plastic lookiong right now and could use some work, but other then that, good work!
