Samuel's Creature Design WIP

great work, really nice creature design! I am digging his silhouette and the sculpt aswell, his face is bad ass!:+1:
Looking forward to the end result and to the beauty shot of it!
Keep it going and have fun sculpting!
Cheers,

Thanks Kenny, I still have a lot to learn with poly painting, a lot to learn all round actually haha, I’ll get around to compositing and final render soon, I just need to give some thought to his back story and how I’ll re-paint him.

For now though I’ve started on a cartoon character, initially I was trying to achieve the big eyes manga look to challenge myself, it proved too challenging so I’ve gone with something slightly more natural, still as cartoony as I’ve ever done, hope you like her so far.

I will post here and in class lol. It is coming along nicely.

Thanks Muchlove!
Here’s an update. I update frequently because each time I progress it’s the most exciting thing ever! haha
I gave her a quick poly paint, and crafted something vaguely resembling hair. much needed practise in that field. also Played around with some expressions. need to create a mouth bag to get more smiles though…

It looks good man. How did you get the clear peaces render?

thanks Man,

for the general clear fabrics like around the torso and half the leg, make sure you have the selected subtool you want transparent and go into display properties and hit BPR Transparent Shading. you can Adjust how transparent it’ll be in the BPR settings palette.

For the lace type adornments around the arm and one short leg, I just created a really thing piece of geometry, and masked it with a lace alpha poly painted it harsh black on white, and under texture map properties I hit ‘new from poly paint’ (after setting up UV’s) and pressed Transparent, that makes all the pure black elements go invisible but all other colours remain visible. I’m sure there are more efficient and proper ways of doing it, I was just making it up as I went along :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s as far as I’ve gotten, I still have a lot to learn, especially in Poly painting and Rendering… and sculpting and topology … and efficiency. haha but it’s a fun learning experience!

I’m aiming for a creature that is able to dwell both on land and in water naturally.

figured out a better way to maintin the tail. I will stylise those spikes into something more fancy  hopfully he doesn’t look like a tadpole any more haha

Nice! this guy is starting to look really cool, man! Love the changes you made to the tail.

That’s kind of how I pictured the Terask.

interesting design of yours samuel, really has some very cool parts and I am definantly looking forward seeing this sculpt finished!:+1:
Keep it going and continue having so much fun mate!
Cheers,
KC:)

@Hendrik glad you like it man, that tail took a lot of brain wracking but I’m happy with the way it turned out.

@Jerik I’m afraid I do not know what or who the Terask is, but cool

@KC-Production Thanks Kenny, it’s been a fun one to sculpt for sure  I’m looking forward to seeing it finished too :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Texuring not sure if I should add scales or snake skin, what say the masses?

Looking good, like the design of the front and rear feet, nice idea.

My bad, spelled it wrong. It’s Terrasque. D&D uber monster.

@Dman3d thanks, the rear feet are loosely based around an ancient breed of Crocodile, the front feet are entirely my own imagination. glad you like them

@Jerick that is uncanny, it’s amazing how even though you think something is completely unique there is always something out there that closely resembles. well I’ll hope to keep my creation it’s own beast

I made my first tree ^^ wip. taken from an old sketch I did. (there’ll be a cute fuzzy creature init)
