Sage Dragon concept

This is a different version of our “Sage dragon” design. Test render with MAYA MR. No textures.

Poly count is around 360 000 (base mesh is 5624 poly). So it’s still pretty light mesh. I have yet to add scales, wrinkles, more muscle definition, and veins, skin texture etc.

Love the wings… my only crit, so far since you’re still defining, is that his legs look way small to hold up his form. My Dog weighs 90 - 100 lbs and has really skinny legs but somehow they look a bit more proportionate than these do here. It’s not so much with the front legs, which I actually seem to like but more so with the back legs. I think the distance between the hip to the knee to the talus aren’t long enough. Maybe shorten the distance between the ball of the foot and the and the first joint.

Atleast that’s what I’m seeing. So far so good and I’m really excited to see more.

Kyphur, - I agree with your observations about the rear legs’ proportions. They are giving me an uneasy feeling too. Now I know it’s not just me. Maybe defined quadriceps and gluts, some ornamental scales and other various details might help with the balance of whole frame. We will see. Thank you for your comments.

Maybe adding a patagia film going further up the side from the upper leg to the ribs? I agree thickening up the quads might help also though. Try that first and then maybe adding that film going up the side, I think that would add a bit more “flight dynamics” to him also and help him stay airborn.

Rock on,

Kyph

Hey Ejder! Wow your progress since you started has been very dedicated from your part. The whole idea of the dragon in a world of sur-realism it’s very nice. Also love how you painted the head. The highlights, shadows and midtones look great. About the body, I know your not done with it but, I think it need more mass, more volume to make him look more agressive and bigger.

Well Ejder… Keep the good work man! 5 from me too!!

Javi.

Kyphur - If I can not attain what I already envisioned with more muscle definition, maybe some strategically placed scales and skin folds then I will definitely try to implement something along your suggestion. I might google for some air gliding critter image. Good advice- Thank you again.

Hi Javi - Glad to see you back. Since then things have evolved to two separate concept designs. Original design will be able to fly, with very light frame and more raptor like features. Second one will be land bound with relatively heavyset frame and big cat, crocodile hybrid features. I am getting close to that fine line between copious imagination and fruitless obsession. We will see if I will be able to keep everything under control. Thank you for the fresh dose of supportive comments.

No dragon images today, but here is a grand old man character study to spice up this thread. All Zbrush.
