Yeah I would really like to draw up a quick tutorial on this, once i get a chance! I need to post some screenshots of the WIPs as well. 3D Printer World has me heavily occupied this weekend! will try and do this next week.

Here are some screen grabs of the wolf spider and babies image. All modeled in ZBrush, hair is fibermesh rendered in Keyshot. The baby spiders are copies of the original that have been altered to make them cute. For the lighting I created a Disc in ZBrush to represent a ring flash and then in Keyshot I applied an incandescent material.

The house image (scroll down in this thread) was my first experiment with Nanomesh in 4R7. Here are some ZBrush screengrabs:

house01.jpghouse02.jpghouse03.jpghouse04.jpg

The house itself is very simple low poly geometry made using ZModeller. I created polygroups for the different areas where I wanted nanomesh details. The tiles on the roof are very simple nanomesh warped cubes. I created the polygroups using ZModeller. You can see I also used nanomesh leaves for the ivy.

Here are screengrabs of the plants:

house05.jpghouse06.jpghouse07.jpghouse08.jpghouse09.jpg

Similar idea here, I used polygroups to determine roughly where I want the ivy leaves, you can create some cool spiraling polygroups using some of the options in the ZModeler brush. Then I placed the ivy usingnanomesh. I did not have to convert these into a subtool to render in Keyshot! Keyshot handles nanomesh really well! For the wood panels on the outside of the house I used the Array mesher to simply duplicate my geometry. I converted this into a subtool so that I could add warping and imperfections. I would have liked to have spent more time painting details and dirt but I did this really quickly. The tree is a very simple ZSphere sculpt converted into a polymesh. I used fibermesh for spanish moss. I created simple geometry for the bark, the leaves and even the branches and added these all to the tree using nanomesh. Final render (earlier in this thread) was all Key shot.

I didn’t really polypaint the house much or use textures, but again this was all in the name of fooling around and the whole model was put together in a few hours. A really fun process. Environment artists are going to go nuts with this stuff!

Here’s a quick tutorial I did on nanomesh:

Thanks for the breakdown. Fun stuff.

I’m having some trouble getting my nanomesh flatplanes with transparent texture to become an actual mesh without losing the texture information in the process.
Any ideas?

A Mantis head I started during the demo which I have yet to finish. Just showing some box modeling techniques using QMseh brush.

Have not shared on ZBC for a while so here are some renderings of ZBrush models I have created in the past year for a variety of projects. Hope you enjoy them! First is a study I did of a striped shore crab modeled in ZBrush rendered in Octane.

Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) is an important model organism scientists use to study genetics and development. I created thsi model as part of a tutorial on Clarafi.com to teach scientific illustrators intermediate to advanced Zbrush techniques. This model is also rendered in Octane.

I love jumping spiders! This golden jumper was created for a tutorial in 3D Artist Magazine (issue 79). What a cutey! Rendered in… Octane!

This is model I created of a horned lizard for my Gnomon Workshop video series Intro to Maya 2016. Rendered in mental ray using ZBrush vector displacement maps. hornedLizar_zbc.jpg

A Blue Morpho butterfly I modeled and rendered for a 3D Artists magazine tutorial (issue 84). Modeled in ZBrush and rendered in Octane…

Its a big head fly, an older model I re-rendered as an experiment in…Octane!! All models created in ZBrush.

This is a model I am currently working on for an upcoming episode of my web series “Entomology Animated”. This is the famous Bombadier Beetle with lethal exploding fart weaponry. Modeled and textured in ZBrush, rendered in…Octane!!! I like Octane a lot.

My Solenopsis invicta (fire ant) model from the first episode of Entomology Animated, you can see the animation Here.

Here is the poster I created for my Introduction to ZBrush class I’ll be teaching at the ZSummit later this month. Class is sold out!!

Awesome work! Very interesting video on the fire ant. :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

This is an awesome thread! Love the fireant with the x-ray body.

Some awesome work there, lads. The Gnomon Workshop snake (or the others):
Do the tutorials (intro to maya 2016) cover the whole process, from scratch to awesome?
Thanks in advance for the answer.
