Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R8

EDIT/SOLVED:
I uninstalled 4r7 and 4r8 and removed all related folders

then I did another fresh 4r8 install, now the activation is working, and I was able to change the language to english as well

Hi,

Issue 1:

did a clean 4r8 install, following the instructions

I installed and launched ZBrush as an admin.

but I am unable to paste or type the activation code into the activation code entry field

I also deactivated my anti virus software (microsoft essentials)

Samsung slate 7, Windows 7

Issue 2:

Even if I chose english as my language, the menu is german. I hope, that I can change that to english, once the activation process is successful.

asecbrush . Thanks Very much!

The instruction to deactivate was because there are a number of situations in which not deactivating can create problems. On the other hand, there are no situations in which deactivating will cause issues – other than not being able to use 4R7 anymore.

4R7 and 4R8 are unaware of each other. You CAN run both. However, it is very important that if you never deactivate your older version(s) after activating the newer one. So go ahead and reactivate 4R7 if you want but never deactivate it, even when you are ready to put it permanently to bed. The only version that you should deactivate in the future – such as if you’re going to move between computers or reinstall your OS – is 4R8.

Thank you Aurick!
This is very good to know. There’s always been at least one thing in each version that has caused me to want the previous version.

@vlad74 My answer will be: NO, You can’t!
Cause, even while You can have both 4R7 and 4R8. Files from 4R8 won’t open in 4R7. So once your project saved in 4R8 You’re locked to this version (You could export files tho).

So the new IMM dock drops down whenever I select the ZModeler brush, and since my screen real estate is a little smaller being on a Macbook Pro I’d like to know how I can make this permanently stop dropping, or at the very least a hotkey to make it disappear ( for whatever reason it won’t let me click the collapse arrow, it only presses on the timeline instead ). I know how to make it stop popping up from the preferences panel, but it won’t stay permanent even if I Store UI and then re-start Zbrush. I just don’t want to have to disable it every time I boot the application up. Any help?

At face value this seems stupid and could have waited for a while but did not realize it
was connected to another bigger problem.

Simply put, when the new zbrush starts, it automatically goes on line to the Home page
I wish to stop this.
When I send a goz from anther program to zbrush, it automatically opens the program,
there is something in the start up creating a problem.

In any case wish to stop it going online on start up.
Thank you

When the Home Page News window is open, click its gear icon for the settings. That will open a little pop-up screen with a choice to only display the window when the news changes. Tick that box, close the window, then close the Home Page. That’s all there is to it! You don’t want to permanently turn it off because then you’d miss important announcements. But this setting will keep you from having to deal with the window every time ZBrush starts. I personally would prefer if that were the default setting because training yourself to ignore the page and just automatically turn it off every time it opens means you’d end up missing important news when it does update.

@bicc39 There’s option on that window, that let You set this window to open up only when there’s something new.

@kollatt It’s a known bug.

You don’t want to permanently turn it off

apologies but yes I do, how do I do this?

kollatt… what is a known bug?

That home page interferes with GoZ applications???

If so I blew 14 hours on installing, uninstalling, reinstalling to find what was the cause.
I went through about 15 setups trying to find what was wrong

This is the kind of thing that no doubt drives the license section slightly batty.
Also, know this is heresy, but do not spend days/hours combing Pixologic site.

To me Zbrush is a tool, most valuable, not a membership in a coven

@Bicc39:

I dont like that window either, but for me its because it doesn’t like my internet connection. For me it hangs forever and then crashes taking ZBrush with it.
I should point out that the networks I usually use have extreme latency, what most people refer to as Lag.

You can use the Gear menu to make it so it never comes up unless there’s something new, but if, like me, you dont want it at all you can do this (on windows):

  1. Hit fn F3 to turn off your network.
  2. Run ZBrush, it will come up with out that window.
  3. Hit fn F3 again to turn your network back on.

Its as easy as that.
All it is is a web page and with no internet access it simply doesn’t pop up.

@bicc39 Just set that option. It won’t appear anymore (it doesn’t for me at least, and I’ve relaunched ZBrush like 40 times already)

For people who want the option to not have Home Page launch at all just go to ā€œZBrush 4R8/ZScriptsā€ and make a slight change in the ā€œDefaultZScript.txtā€ file. The launcher for it is in there. You don’t have to delete the code in case you change your mind. Just put 2 forward slashes before the line of code as highlighted in green in the following image then save the file. You can still access the Home Page by clicking the button in ZBrush. If you want to revert, just remove the 2 forward slashes and save.

We strongly discourage you to do it that way. The ā€œHomePageā€ system has a preference (gear icon on its top bar) where you can set this tool to appears only if we provide you new news. This is the best way to be aware of new system patches and updated and of course, training content and such. We won’t spam you!

I strongly disagree. So, what you are saying is that people are incapable of clicking the ā€œHome Pageā€ button in ZBrush on their own, to check it whenever it is convenient for them?

I believe that, even when the option ā€œonly if news is updatedā€ is selected, the plugin is still queried to see if there is any new updates when ZBrush is launched. This can cause problems for some people as has already been posted.

This is my opinion. Sorry.

@zber2 This is nice.
So, it is ZHomePage plugin (ZBrush 4R8\ZStartup\ZPlugs64\ZHomePageData).

Thank you Meal but my problem is unique to this.
I use Daz Studio and its goz bridge to make morphs.
Figure is in DAZ scene ,button is hit, figure is sent to zbrush.
The sending of the figure literally opens Zbrush program
Morph is created and then sent back to Daz.
Some figures are unique and the settings have to be exact or sending back from Zbrush to
Daz results in a failure.
What has happened is that Daz sends the figure to Zbrush, Zbrush opens with home page and lightbox.
They are shut down, figure is worked on and sent back to Daz.
Somewhere in this procedure the actual bridge setup is broken and Daz does not know it is importing a morph.

It has been a long few hours determining the cause.
This is important to me and worth the work to solve.
I had a pipeline that worked for me for many months.
Now it does not. what went wrong??
Took long hours to determine this.
My workflow is more important to me than ā€œcatching upā€.
Hate to say this but my workflow is more important to me than the improvements in the new version.
Now I fear it is lost
Also consider…we are talking about dismantling a link!!!
You can always go online on your own.
Thank you all for your help, appreciate it but solution still pending

T H A N K Y O U !!!
very very much!!!
(Where were you about 20 hours and 4 installations ago :D)

LOL…no problem bicc39:)

There’s an issue on some systems where the mesh momentarily doubles up each time you navigating around it. Is there any solution? Is it a known issue?

***Edit-This is entirely fixed in the P1 update. Amazing! Thank you Pixologic!!!***zbrush_4r8_ghost_issue.jpg

@tukor Went down to 38 (lowest possible). Working fine. But I’m on 1920x1200.

I dont know why its happening to me or if its just me.
I get this error in other menus too, like when you create a new custom UI and it ask for a name for the new menu.
I cant enter anything unless i set the buttons size to 46+

Thanks for that Zber. In addition to that, when I customized my 4r8 interface, I removed the Homepage and Lightbox buttons.

One small observation on buttons is that the primary and secondary colour swatches have switched places in 4r8, which means the Document background color is now set from the button on the right instead of left. Not a big deal as we can move them back when customizing.

hello there, my enthousiatic day turns into nightmare…have problems here to. I’ll make it short:sunglasses:

I downloaded the full installer, (didn’t deactivate my4r7, cause I can’t select it inthe list?!) thenI installed it on my PC with admin right and disable kapersky,

At launch I have the MSVCR120.dll and sclupteo script error, as mention already page 1&2 of this thread, (where can I find this DLL, it’s not even listed on Microsoft site!?)

ZBrush launch and ask for activation, go to the site, generate my code…
Then no way to enter my registration code, either by pasting or typing, so ZB don’t start, well it quit!

I reinstall a second time with everything checked, kapersky disable…nothing change, I tried to uninstall 4r8… It appears nowhere, not in the software bar, not in the list of software installed on my PC… all I can do is put the pixologic folder to the trashcan, which is not the way to uninstall a software on a PC, right?

Then I decided to reverse the state of my PC with a system restore point to 1 week earlier, guess what? The only file that’s gone is the ZBrush.exe , but the all Pixologic/zbrush 4R8 is still there (1.29GO):rage:

Not even having the option to uninstall 4R8 from your Windows Control Panel, combined with the .dll error all sounds like you didn't download the full installer from https://pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/instructions/. The full installer always adds 4R8 to your list of programs. I also haven't seen any case of the full installer giving any missing .dll errors. What you're describing is consistent with having run ZUpgrader from within the 4R7 folder (which is what the Auto Update button inside 4R7 does). Very strange.
