Questions & Troubleshooting for ZAppLink 4

I’m trying to use ZAppLink 4 so I can texture a model in Photoshop (CS5) and whenever I try, I get this message:
“Plugin Note: memory could not be allocated.
ABitMap:small_orange_diamond:Allocate”
and when I hit OK I get this error message:
“error encountered while attempting to launch external editor”

If I half the resolution to 4k it DOES work but I need it at 8k or I’ll lose my gig!!! ANY ideas/suggestions/crazy thoughts would be SO appreciated!

My computer specs are:
Mac OSX 10.6.8
Processor Name - Quad Core Intel Xeon (64-bit)
Processor Speed - 3 GHz
2 Processors / L2 Cache (per processor) - 12 MB
Memory (RAM) - 8 GB / 800 MZh
Bus Speed - 1.6 GHz

When I use Activity Monitor with both Photoshop and Zbrush open:
Free space: 5.00 gb
Wired: 521 mb
Active: 860 mb
Inactive: 1.4 gb
Used; 2.74 gb

Many thanks, Jana

I have cs4 extended on my laptop but not on my desktop because I bought an upgrade to cs5 over a year ago before I started doing 3d. this is frustrating because I really like zapplink ! so I send the model over my network to my laptop to open in 4R2 to link over to cs5 extended… hassle!
how much is it to upgrade cs5 to extended and is that possible when my cs5 is already upgraded from cs4 extended?
I see somewhere $350 and I just find that ridiculous. when my upgrade to cs5 already cost around $250.
any suggestions?

also, from a zbrush perspective what are our functional advantages of cs5 extended over cs4 extended?
Im not going to do it but the thought has crossed my mind to uninstall cs5 and reinstall cs4 extended on my desktop just to cut time. but I wont because I love the new brushes in cs5 and I need that on my desktop among other cs5 advantages. just poor planning on my part way back I guess.

I have the same problem as Hurricks but in my case polypainting does not work. Any ideas ?

I got a question…

Why does every time I pick up my model from the canvas it switches my brush back to m-fing Zadd?! If I am texturing… it’s highly likely that my brush is in RGB mode.

… I can’t seem to find the store positions buttons for Zapplink in Z4R4 p2.

The Zapplink properties button seems to missing .

Am I having a blonde moment?

I would be most grateful for any ideas.
I’ll attach a screen shot.

Cheers, Neil

I have the buttons available. I see that you have a highly customized UI. Did you created it from scratch in ZBrush 4R4 P2 or imported from a previous version of ZBrush?
You should try to reload the default UI to see if the menu is back. Also, if you have non official plugins, temporary deactivate them.

Hi Totyo,

Thanks for your reply to my UI problem.

You’re absolutely right that It is a custom variation from previous versions of ZBrush ( as far back as Z4R2, I think ) - that has been tweaked from time to time thru to the current version.

I did revert back to the default interface without any success.

I’ll give it another shot and implement your suggestions.

Thank you very much for your help and time.

Kind Regards,

Neil

…deleting the custom config file from my Public Documents folder reset the interface.

ZApplink buttons have appeared at the bottom of the drop down menu.

Cheers,

Neil

I’m glad it works now. but the question is which modification made the menu disappear…

Yeah, Good question Totyo …

A bit of a mystery.

Freak accident, maybe.

I only deleted the .config file to reset.
I left all the official and unofficial plugins where they were.

I have just begun to recreate my UI from scratch in Z4R4 P2

So far, so good.
I’ll see how it goes.

I hope this doesn’t happen too often with future updates

Once again,thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,
Neil

I’m on Windows 7 here, same sort of issue. Was/is your button ‘buried’ behind the document dropdown menu?

Hi Doug,

Sorry for any delay in my reply.

The items on the shelf behind the dropdown (in the screen grab) are/were :

Curve QuadFill Brush plus some of the stroke options for the Curve brushes.

I think the following item is/was the Qremesher Brush.

Basically, just dragged to my custom UI.

As it happens, I’ve just recreated the UI from scratch after deleting the previous config file.
The ZApplink properties are now available.

Everything appears to be fine now.

I had only noticed the aforementioned problem just recently due to the fact that I don’t really use ZApplink that often.

I don’t really know how long this had been a problem.

I’m on Win7 with an old dual core processor.

I hope this was of help.

Give me a shout if you need any more info…

Kind Regards,

Neil

I’ve been working on recreating mine. Somehow never got rid of my purple one though. I’ve deleted a bunch of .cfg files as well as renaming to .BAK. I somehow managed to bring up the buttton to copy it to my custom UI but it’s now lurking/blocking out the document menu. Argh…

I feel your pain, chap.
Sorry, I couldn’t be useful.

Neil

Back in business, almost. Purple went away as well as my custom icons, sigh. Tons of fun. One bonus is slightly less clutter in the folders now.
