Hi everyone!
Does anyone know if you can render displacement maps in max 5.0 or do you need to upgrade to 5.1 with the service pack or 6.0?
yes, I too would like it if pixolator could describe exactly the workflow in creating a displacement map.
Zeddicus: You seem to be the one who have solved the problem of banding in mental ray. I followed your steps with no luck at all. Used your import settings and used your render settings and still banding…
Could you post your max file? It would be interesting to have a look at it…
Hi Zeddicus
I’m also having a problem with your post in the main forum.
Mainly the part that reads …

quote:
- For render options - View: Checked / Edge Length: 1.0 (higher speeds thing up but lowers render quality, lower setting slows things down but improves render quality) / Max Displace: 15.0 / Max Level: 6 (play around for best speed to render quality ratio)

I’m unsure where the Edge lenght is that you are refering too. Please help!
:b4: Edit :b4: Found it! Sorry that was starring me in the face! How embarrasing!
Hi there,
Trying to get this thing looking right - it still appears bloated to me. Using XSI 4.2 Foundation, and as you can see with the screenshot, I’ve tried using a change range node, or two scalar maths (two different methods from different posters) but I still feel it’s puffing out (0 = no displacement, 1 = full displacement) It’s particularly apparent around the nose / lips… Cheers for any help! (Or tell me it’s fine)
