Poseable Satyr (Walkthrough) From ZSphere to Poser5 -Update#4- More MorphTargets

Leo,
Thanks!
Don’t be fooled Poser does have a learning curve, I’ve been learning it for about four and half years. I still have more to learn too! Poser 5 made things much easier though!

sirquadalot,
Thanks, Oh man, rigging in Poser4 was purely masochistic, LOL… It is a good learning experience though! P5 has definately won me over! Yeah, I don’t have any problems with displacement maps in Poser5… I did have problems before I downloaded the 5.0.4.321
update patch. I created a displacement map ZBrush2/Poser5 tutorial that can be found in the Z2 Practical Guide.

Mark,
Thanks for the positive back my friend!

Aztec…soljA,
I appreciate the great response and compliments! Thank you!

Take care all,
Michael

michael… it’s absolutely clear that the poses of the character are very “coherent”, I mean that everything is tuned, the face’s expression, the “balance” of the body, and the gesture… I don’t know the english word for “ethologie”, the observation of the animals in nature, and their movement and habits, but it is a very precious skill to have that sense… you see, artist like frazetta draw very perfect animals or human, more by the very right expression and movement, than by a lot of details… I’m glad to see, at all your posts, that you have a very sensitive and fine feeling of that…glad, and once I’ll buy poser, envious, I’m afraid! because moving characters seems so simple with you… again bravo!.. amitiés.M.

aways good to see what micheals up to
great model,and step by step,more,more
take care :+1: :+1:

Hi Pusghetty,

Looking good! I have a question or two though....which might be answered for me when I reread your tute in the practical guide which I will do shortly but....

Have you tried using the multi-displacement feature in Z2 and did it work well and would it be a good thing or a bad thing if I want to animate that character later…ie better to do seperate displacements per group on my own rather than let z2 create the multi’s for me.

For the character above did you re-map him, (I should go back and re-read this thread dang it) or just stick with z2’s guv or whatever map you chose for him? If you did remap did you remap according to groups, or in general, etc., etc., etc.

Also what was of the size of the texture(s) you used? Oh…durn I think you mentioned you textured it in Poser? If that’s the case have you tried creating some in Z2? what size, etc…and how did they look?

I will go back and read this thread and your tute and hopefully answer myself before you have to bother but if you have any special insights into any…as in you tried this and it sucked or worked great I’d appreciate it.

… and yet another update. He now has well over 50 facial Morph Targets and I still have more I want to make for him. The many Faces of Sami… oh and before I forget, the pan flute was modeled in Amapi7 and then imported into Z2 where I subdivided the model and created a highly detailed Displacement map for it.

Marcel,
Wow, that is one of the best compliments I have ever recieved! Thank you!
I’m really looking forward to seeing what you can do with Poser and Z2!

Gary,
Hey, good to hear from you… Thanks for the kind words!

aminuts,
Thanks,

  1. I have not tried the multi-displacement plug-in. I figured it was only geared towards the big name apps! Perhaps I’ll experiment with it. I usually have only one displacement map per object.
  2. I used Z2’s GUV mapping for this satyr figure.
  3. The texture and displacement sizes are 4096x4096 pixels and I used Projection Master for the texture map.
    Sorry for my belated reply,

Best Regards,
Michael

Thanks for the reply and answers! I am working on some models and a ways off from needing to know that stuff so a delay was not a biggie! Am really glad to know that guvtiles work that well in poser cuz I am pretty darn picky about how textures look and so far guv seems to work the best for me. Not too mention that I really don’t like how poser lays out it’s uv’s which makes it hard to texture anything really well.

Love your new poses…haha can’t wait to see a mini animation of this guy…please no disco hahaha!

And in case I have forgotten to thank you…Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, you have been a far greater help than you realize!

Again a real good artwork.:+1: :+1:

So many questions of how you do this. But don’t know which one to ask first.

Well, love your pictures. Wish there will be the tuts.:+1:

Hello,
Just an animation as promised… believe it or not I am still ironing out this character. I am now making a new texture map and he has nearly 100 morph targets now. I am going to make some new eye props that have much more detail. An EasyPose Tail and some more Morph Targets.

More to come…

aminuts, it is my pleasure, Thanks for the kind words!

Dan, Thank you too bud, feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Take care,
Michael

I’m really beginning to like this guy, watching him grow and all. The animation is great! Keep pushing!

Sven

 MASTA:lol:
 MORE! MORE! MORE!

Thank you Sven and Aztec…soljA!
I appreciate the positive responses!

satyr, thats knows kung fu,nice animation;) ,great work(rigging, grouping and
modeling micheal:+1: :+1: :+1:

PusGhetty,
I’m pretty new to Zbrush 2 and have found a new love. However, I also use Poser. The thing I’ve been trying to accomplish is trying to create a custom morph like you did for your character for my male elven character. I imported the 3d object into zbrush, made my custom morph and saved the object file. Then I tried importing the .obj file as a morph target on the old model and it said " that the verticies do not match" So my question is, when you make a custom morph in zbrush - how can you apply that change to the model in poser? I’m running Poser 4 and hopefully in the not too far future I will be upgrading to Poser 5. Please help.

jotajota,

Muchos Gracias Amigo!

Gary,

Thanks bud!

DrmzRmyne,

First of all, export your .obj out of Poser5 as a morph target. In Poser select Export/Wavefront Obj… from the File pull-down menu. You will be asked to select a single frame or more… select Single frame and continue. Next, you will be shown a Hierarchy Selection window that says “Check items to include…” Remove the check mark next to “Universe” then select the group that you want to make MT’s with.

NOTE: Only select one group When exporting out of Poser Select more than one group if you are making FBM’s (Full Body Morphs).

Click OK, and the next dialog box ask you where to save the file, rename it to something like Human_Head_MTbase.obj so that you wont get confused later on. Click Save and another dialog box pops up that has several options for exporting… make sure “nclude Figure Names in Polygon Groups” and “As Morph Target” are checked then click Ok!

Now all you need to do is import the object into ZBrush, sculpt your MT’s and export back out of ZBrush then back into Poser5 to add the MT’s to your character.

Hope this helps,

Best Regards,

Michael

neat animation u got there ,is it possible 2 do the same with poser 4 and zbrush 1.55

Thanks Blackant,
Yes, it is possible to do the same with Poser4 and ZB1.55b but the workload will increase tenfold. If you already have 1.55b then you can recieve a free upgrade to Z2. I suggest you do that. 1.55b does not allow you to select and regroup the polygons like Z2 does.
Poser4 does not have the setup room that Poser5 does so you have to build a Phi file to make a proper character in Poser4. Also P4 does not use bones so the Joint Parameters and Inverse Kinematics have to be centered and applied by hand.
Best Regards,
Michael

After looking through this thread again, I’m definitely getting Poser 6. I have Poser 4, but I didn’t have any of the rigging features that you mentioned in this walkthrough.

Thanks for providing this insight, and keep up the great work!

Danger Noob question:

I am getting the hang of the modeling and am about to try to ‘rig’ and animate something. This thread made it clear how to establish a workflow for my trials.

THANKS A MILLION FOR THAT! It would have taken me quite some time without this sample…and I might never have attempted it…

NOW the noob question:

Is the bone-structure app specific or is there a file format for the rigging of a character? If I animate/rig in Poser6 can I import/export the relating data somehow into XSI or other packages or is this data burried in the realm of proprietary app specific formats?

Cheers!
