Wonderful work.
Bautiful work! Maybe you have to rotate the left hand 180 degrees (of the last one) to get more power in action
Thanks guys!
Bas- I agree its a common crit. But, The two handed sword fighting style Requires the left hand to be on top of the blade. Not as dramatic just staying true to how the 2h sword was used.

great character art, not much to crit here really.
for the minatours wimpy pose i suggest maybe sniffing something with that big ol’ nose of his? holding a flower of sorts?
aside from which i believe the abs need some work just over the belly button, few too many lumps in there i reckon. can’t say much for the footsoldier though, looking great! only confusion i have; is he polishing his sword, or in fighting stance? cos the crouched legs look too braced to be just polishing, but the napkin on the blade implies something else.
looking good though, keep it up
Textured him today. Really digging the spotlight. All polypaint. These are zb screen grabs Looking for some fresh eyes on him before I bump out some renders sunday.

Nice Mark ! Want to see those renders
I really like the minotaurus!
I gotta say, I really like the none cliche approach you took with both Karras and the minotaur.
I think it’s great that the soldier looks like an average real life guy and not like some overblown superhero.
the one thing you should still tweak (which others also pointed out) is his pose.
It doesn’t look like he is fighting. more like he’s about to drop the sword and have a cup of tea the whole body and in particular the hands lack the tension it needs.
have a look here at the gif I quickly threw together.

that’s also far from perfect,- I can only go so far by modifiing your image- but it should give a hint on the direction you could take to make the pose as believable as the design.
Woooow. All polypaint.
Awesome.
Julian- Thanks so much for taking the time I really appreciate it. I totally see what you mean!
Funny you should say that! Karras does figuratively drop his sword and leaves the war. I wasn’t going for so much as a fighting stance but a cautious if not ginger advance.
He is probably thinking not again! not again! wish i was home for that cup of tea. If the pose conveys this I will leave it. If not I should definitely change it please give me your thoughts! I respect your contribution to art and the zbrush community immensely! Thanks for the advice and your wonderful SS thread!
well, if what you described is what you want, then you are of course quite close to it. there are still a few things to consider to clearly express your story though. first, I would either show just him alone in your final picture, or put any other soldier a bit farther away - definitely not crossing swords. actually, if you have an opponent who is in a strong alert before attacking pose, but he is not, then that would support his stance of hesitation even more.
either way I would definitely tweak his hand poses. the one holding the handle looks like it’s bent to the side too much. try it yourself with your hand and you will see that ankles don’t easily bend to the side a lot. the other one holding the blade is too weak and somewhat detached even for a softer grip.
last but not least in this case I congratulate you to your choice of pose. again less cliche and more interesting than just a fighting stance, but also more challenging to pull off
oh… and thank you for the flowers
Consider it done! Flowers was the least i could send my friend. Thanks again!
really looking forward to the final image
I shouldnt have joked that way. Sorry guys.
I know my name is silly but I take my work and ZBC seriously. So please remove your poop off of my dump. Feel free to crit or whatever. Hope your not one of my students because I would be insulted. As is I’m not. Just wanna keep things directed to the art. I wouldnt soil someone’s post poopy or not.
Cordycep -I you aren’t exactly creating a great reputation for yourself with such posts.
I’m with Mark on this and would also appreciate if you kindly delete your post, because I wouldn’t want something like that in my thread either or anybody else’s for that matter.
let’s just say it was a not so successful attempt at humor we all want to forget and you help us forgetting by quickly removing it , shall we?
You probably don´t know who Mark is. He is a professional artist who is always trying to help students even ones who aren’t his. He is also willing an open to learn from crits by anybody. It shows humbleness and respect for anyones opinion. Even you don’t know him, there is no reason for such baaaaaaaaaaaaad joke. Shame on you man.
Th
Thanks man and respect for admitting. very appreciated.
Thanks so much man! Alls good! Much appreciated!
You should realize that kilts are a British military invention of the 18th century. I only bother to point this out because of your otherwise excellent attention to period detail.
Tartens yes, kilts no. The actual ancient through medieval to late renaissance Gaelic dress was a type of plaid toga.
After the Brits crushed the highland clans they outlawed the wearing of traditional tartans and Gaelic dress. Then the military shrewdly came up with the kilt as a way to enabling the clansman to wear their ancestral colors - BUT only (at first) in a military context overseas, fighting in their conquer’s armies. The Gaelic toga was deaned inappropriate to military kit, so the kilt was a compromise.
in short - bravehart = costume bulshyte. Don’t get me started on woad.
great model by the way.
