Painting Aircraft Models

Steve,

You have been a life saver! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you hanging in there and walking me through this process.

I’ve got a lot of work to do to get to the point where I’m producing quality work, but you’ve educated me on how the tools work so that I can head down that path.

Importing an image as the texture while in the Projection Master and creating the mask for the alpha worked like a charm!!!

I’d like to show you a couple of very simplistic (but exciting to me) screen shots…

Here’s the model in ZBrush:

As I’m sure you’ve picked up on we don’t need very high resolution models / textures for the scenario we are in. I’ve even oversized the models in the animation environment for the sake of snapping screen captures.

I was completely frustrated at my inability to grasp these tools (LW and ZB). However, with your help I can see light at the end of the tunnel…

Thank you so much,
Rob

Popeye9,

Your plane looks really good…

You guys mention the ‘zapplink plugin’ that lets you place decals on the model in photoshop.

I don’t have Photoshop at this point. I do have Jasc’s Paint Shop Pro 8. That is the program I used to create the alpha for placing the image (as a texture) on the tail in ZBrush.

Is there a chance that zapplink would work with PSP? Or is it specifically for Photoshop?

Thank you both for your input,
Rob

I read some of the threads and it seems that it will work. Yo can check it out here

Rob, I’m happy to have been able to help. God knows I didn’t get here by myself. We all rely on the wisdom of those who’ve gone before us to advance our own skills. But that’s part of what makes the ZBrush community so great. There’s a tremendous openness and willingness to share tips, tricks and techniques.

Don’t feel bad about having trouble grasping ZBrush or LightWave. I’ve been using LightWave since 1988 (when it was called Videoscape 3D) and I’m still learning new things every day. So don’t get discouraged. The fact that you’ve gotten this far means you’re doing just fine.

Cheers!

Steve
