New to ZBrush

OK. So, I’m new to ZBrush. Many, many years of professional experience in PhotoShop, Cinema 4D, and After Effects, as well as advanced interactive authoring. But ZBrush is… different. I D/L’d the demo on four different occassions. The first three times I found it confounding. The fourth time was caused by the email saying if I buy it now, I get the upgrade for free. OK, that’s cool - I decided to really take a serious look at the demo. After a long period of “not being able to rotate the cube”, the dam broke a bit. Then… addiction. I’m not sure what it is about this program, but confounding turned to absolute fascination. OK. I bought.
Since I normally do “corporate multimedia”, I have never had to model a human head, and never relished the process in a polygonal modeler (even with NURBs.) Last night, in one evening, I modeled and textured my first ever - and it isn’t awful. It’s not great, but it is remarkable considering I had no previous experience in the tool or that type of modeling.
So what’s this all about? A couple things - first to thank Pixologic for an absolutely addictive tool. Second, to express appreciation for this community which seems to be one of the most positive and encouraging communities I have ever encountered.
Thanks all. Pixologic has a lot to be proud of.

(Oh, that image? Maybe I’ll post it AFTER I do something a bit better…)

Welcome S!
Remember, there are a lot of people here who would be glad to help with any situation you encounter, and be sure to go through the Quicklinks at the top of the page…They have been organized by Aurick in the last while, and are now not only a rich source of information, but are also easily ‘mined’ for that precise thing you’re looking for…

Welcome aboard!!

Welcome, indeed! ZBrush is a bit different in how it does things – and that seems to especially stand out to the people such as yourself who have previous experience with 3D animation packages – but those differences are born from necessity. The developers didn’t reinvent the wheel with ZBrush. There are a lot of quality 2D and 3D programs, both, out there! Why compete? Instead, ZBrush bridges the gap between the two forms of art to create something that enhances both.

Anyway, we’re very glad that you stuck with it and that the “dam” finally broke! It will be great to see some of your creations as you become more confident. I think you’ll be surprised by how quickly it all comes together for you!

Again, Welcome!
