Mushroom Field -UPDATED-

3D Studio Max
Volume Fog for the clouds, took about 45 min to create, had to mess with lights forever to get the right look. Tell me what you think.

The grass is very nice, good texturing on the rock and mushroom.
Sorry to say it (I know you said you took forever playing with the lighting!) but I think the shadow of the mushroom is cast too far up the hill for the rate at which the size of the grass diminishes.
It makes the hill look as if it comes to an abrupt end, I think you should raise the height of the shadow casting light a bit.
Just my humble opinion, take no notice if you don’t want to. :smiley:

yeah, I thought there was something odd with the hill too, but I couldnt figure out what. I’ll mess with shadows tonight and see what I can do.

hey DS nice experiment…well ya could put a bit more hightlight on the mushroom cap on the left side and on the stem right under where the caps shadow is striking the stem…still kewl though…love the grass…does that thing have like a grass tool or something to create each strand?

the grass is 3 seperate polygons, each with its own texture, then scattered over the plain 65,000 times. so thats 65,000 x 3 = a lot of grass.

Little update. Flowers added, lights adjusted. Whatcha think?

those little touches are making it look better…are you just experimenting with light and shadow or are you going in a definite direction with this piece? Just curious

No, this isnt just a light/shadow test. Im going for a brighter, happier picture than Im used to doing. Just wanted to see where it would take me. I’ll be posting more images like this one off and on.

Nice update, the raising of the brightness is a definate improvement, it brings a new degree of sharpness to the image.
