Another great update. At one point I wondered if you would enter the contest and now you seem to be rocking the place! Awesome. How are you going to handle the tail? Or will you deal with that more when you start dividing the mesh more?

No new horse-update today. :o
I´ve been busy with a concept sketch and a background story.
I´ve entered the cgCoach creatures+critters contest with another creature but I´ll work parallel on the horse.
Two entries… yeah – maybe a stupid idea but I couldn´t resist.
Anyway!
I´ve had a mad urge to do something cartoonish and something funny this time!
Let me introduce you to:
“Humpatiki”
This is Humpatiki.
He´s a little creature who is living in the deep woods.
His hair is shaggy and stiff with dirt, and his body-odor is BAD!
(-- a skunk smells good compared to him! Yuck!)
Humpatiki would love to sunbathe but he can´t. He has a sun allergy and therefore he has to hide himself until night falls.
All the other creatures and animals made fun of him.
Humpatiki was very sad… and lonely.
BUT… one glorious night he met Pover, Dean and Lenny – better know as “The Ruckus - Nightowls”
Nobody can stand them because they are rude, loud and they always step out of line.
They were really glad that they have met Humpatiki – another maverick,
and Humpatiki was glad, too – so they made friends quickly.
He told them his story and they´ve noticed that he´s really sad that he´s not allowed to see the sun.
But hey – wait!
Something came to Pover´s mind.
He let Humpatiki know legend has it that there are rare magic-fireflies living somewhere hidden in the woods.
Three of those magic-fireflies caged at the same time in a lantern made of wood – and they´ll start to glow for a few minutes with a light as of a thousand suns.
“Whoa!” :eek: Humpatiki was filled with wonder. That was faaaar beyond his understanding!
“If you let them out then they´ll fulfill one wish” Pover said.
And Humpatiki answered: “Oooh! I´d wish that I were able to see the sun whenever I want to!”
And Humpatiki knew the day will dawn when he´ll have three of those magic-fireflies.
Then… then he´d show them all!!!
And until then it´ll be cool to raise a ruckus with his new friends, he thought and started to grin.

Dean:
Little, mean and wary like a watch-dog.
He always keeps a careful eye on the magic-firefly that Humpatiki has already caught.
Just to make sure.
Pover:
He´s the battle-owl.
Fleet and clever.
Fearless in fighting and known for his ruthless air-raid.
Lenny:
One look and you will notice that he is A) different and B) a big eater!
Almost all owls are famed for eating mice – all except Lenny!
He is known for something else:
Lenny loooves radishes and he´s eating them nonstop!
Something they all have in common is that they love raising a ruckus in the woods.
They call it music – erm, well…
I´d call it “unforgetable musical experience”.
Hope you like it and I hope I didn´t make too many typos or grammar mistakes. :o
Writing a story in english is sooo hard! Whew!

Monja, Humpatiki and the Ruckus Nightowls are looking great! I think the characters are going to be fun to sculpt and so cool to see them in a scene together. ! Another thing: the thumbnail in the bottom row caught my eye (I didn’t know it was yours) because of the composition you made with the characters and the design style (angular contours). You may feel that you didn’t pay much attention to this while drawing, or that it wasn’t your main concern but I think you have a good feeling for composition/ style (I’m telling you this because it’s very positive and you should be aware of this and since stated that you are pretty new to art in general)
Lookin’ forward to the initial sculpt! ! And do not forget to make incremental back-ups… . .

Hey Etcher, thank you very much! Regarding my “design-style” – that´s funny because yep – I feel that I didn´t pay much attention to this while I was drawing. Okay, it took me a few days until I was satisfied with the characters (I wasted hundreds of papers ) but the final sketch (as I knew how each character should look like) took only about 30-45 minutes (quick for me). It was late at night and I listened to some music. Maybe that did the trick. Glad to hear you like it. Thanks for the compliments. Coming from you – a drawing master – is a great compliment.

Hellooo, here´s the new horse-update:
Completely new pose although I actually have no time for things like that but I wanted more action and a wilder look so I changed it and with Transpose Master and the transformation tools it didn´t take very long. All in all I´m satisfied now but I think he´s standing a little bit too upright at the moment (I´m talking about the hind legs) and the joints on all legs need more work, too. What do you think?)
Only one mouth left. He lost the other somewhere along the way.
He also lost his horns during a fight. No worries. They grow again – but maybe a little different. Hihi
I hope it´ll worth the extra work! :evil:
I added the mane and blocked out the MANE-shapes. (It´s still too short at the moment.)
Whew…so much work left…on the legs and the mane…the tails… the jaw and so on but I´ll post the next horse-update not before end of next week (cgCoach contest rules: one update per week.)
Now I´ll start with Humpatiki. Yiihaa.

Hi Monja, the new pose looks good, although I found the previous one very powerfull too. But you mentioned this one needed some more tweaks - so it’s a bit early to judge-

The head and the shape of the neck… and the legs – it looked so much better with the old pose IMO.
First I didn´t want to say it because I really wanted to start with Humpatiki.
But I´d be unhappy forever if I would continue working on the standing horse.
Anyway – It´s beatiful weather and I´ve decided to visit my parents and my cat now… then my grandparents and then I´ll start with Humpatiki
and next week I´ll work further on the horse.
I just wanted to let you know before somebody else comments on the standing horse.
