Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

whoa man, that took a long time to type, i’m sure. sounds kinda angry too.
i am one of those die hard mac users that actually likes my windows partition. hell, i can run zb3, 3dsmax, mudbox, and gears of war (not at optimum GFX—but still great) with no problem on a basic install of XP.

this is such a crazy argument that will go on FOR-friggin-EVER!

you know what would be more fun? speculating on what 3.5 will have to offer.

now…i think, since they have had such a close tie with Zapplink and photoshop (or whatever other thing like GIMP) they’re coming up with something that is layer based that makes Zapplink obsolete. Imagine polypainting with Photoshop-type layers. I don’t know how they’ll do it, but I betcha it’s in the works!

Hopefully it won’t be as bizarro as working with subtools is now.

Yeah, you’re a real intellectual giant!.. Learn how to spell boy wonder!

Your lack of argumentative skills, common sense and decency remind me of another misguided individual by the name of ‘Lordstormdragon’ in this thread over on CGTalk.

"Actually the story goes something like this…

Pixologic announces ZB3.5 at Siggraph 2008, then releases a few technology preview videos on their website early in 2009. After many, many months of total silence, Pixologic previews ZB4 at Siggraph 2009 and announces availability early in 2010. Of course the Mac version won’t be available until a few months after the official - ‘Windows’ - ZB4 release, but any Mac user purchasing ZB2 at the special upgrade price will get a free license transfer to ‘ZB4 for Mac’ when it’s released. Gee… I think I’ve read this somewhere before… And the irony of the situation is that every single Mac user posting in this forum will be the FIRST IN LINE to hand over their money. Does that make Mac users look like morons or what!

Stop acting like Mac using, placard waving activists attempting to save some purple-pnsed, 9 legged mongolian tree frog, and wake up to the realities of the modern corporate world. 2k Mac users vs maybe 20k pro content developers collectively holding 50k ZB licenses. Add to that maybe another 30k non-pro ZB 3.x licensees and you suddenly have 80k ZB 3.x users willing to pay $300 each for an upgrade to ZB 4… that’s $24M. So ask yourself… if you were in the business of software development where would your priorities be?

You get taunted only because most Mac users posting on this forum are well… just so ‘anal retentive’. …‘I’LL NEVER USE WINDOWS ON MY MAC’ but I’m willing to waste my time whinging and whining in this forum for the next 30 years while ‘Windows’ users are busily creating amazing art with their copy of ZB v12… Are Mac users really so moronic that they don’t realise how absolutely stupid their statements are.

I realise most encumbant - bet most Mac users have to look up that word - Mac users would be too dumb to understand the complexities, but spend some of your obviously plentiful time - well you really don’t have any apps to run on your Macs anyway - over at the developer forums at Apple, and just maybe - but I doubt it - you’ll come to understand that much of what you are so ready to blame Pixologic for, is really of Apple’s making. The ‘good ol’ days - well in your opinions’ anyway - of Mac have gone. Mac hardware is now a multi OS, multi developer platform targeted by Apple not only as a ‘MacOS’ platform, but also ‘Linux’, ‘Unix’, and - dare I say it - ‘Windows’. If you want to keep repeating to yourself …‘I’LL NEVER USE WINDOWS ON MY MAC’… then so be it, but no one’s listening. Not Pixologic and especially not Apple."

I keep thinking that this thread exists simply because the mac community are waiting avidly for the next release of an osx-native zbrush. There’s bound to be some release of frustration from time to time, and that needs a little tolerance, but I feel the above post above is really unnecessary and offensive. Macs and PC’s are just tools and both are equally capable ones. Each person simply has their preference. :

Well, aren’t we insulting, not to mention totally incorrect.

At least you’re very good at displaying your own ignorance.

When you’ve worked in the industry 25 years, come on back and thrill us with your acumen. In the meantime, you need to learn some manners.

While disagreements and reasonable discussions are certainly welcome - insulting people ISN’T. Fortunately for you, I am not the moderator. If I were, people like you would be banned immediately.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions, but you are NOT entitled to insult other members of this forum.

I wonder if you will get a reply on this?

Just in case a quick quote from the Mac OS dictionary:

incumbent |inˈkəmbənt|
adjective
1 [ predic. ] ( incumbent on/upon) necessary for (someone) as a duty or responsibility : it is incumbent on all decent people to concentrate on destroying this evil.
2 [ attrib. ] (of an official or regime) currently holding office : the incumbent president had been defeated.
noun
the holder of an office or post.
ORIGIN late Middle English (as a noun): from Anglo-Latin incumbens, incumbent-, from Latin incumbere ‘lie or lean on,’ from in- ‘upon’ + a verb related to cubare ‘lie.’

Hahaha! Awesome…

“Acumen?” Careful, you might make him have to bust out his dictionary. Let’s not hurt the guy, now!

My school recently opened up a new library–the Matthewson/IGT Knowledge Center. Despite the fact that we don’t have a film program, we now have some pretty high end equipment. Everything is 1080p, variable frame rate, and uses P2 and fiber channel. We’re running FCP and AfterEffects (I’m not fond of AE, but that’s another discussion for another time), but I asked them about 3D.

The younger guy working there says, “We have some PC workstations that are running 3D Studio Max.”

But another guy actually corrects him–can you guess what machines were the best for running the Windows-only 3DS Max?

The brand new MacPros we got…

Yeah, we don’t have any apps.

This is crap. Where is Aurick. He stops my little fight with some dude some pages ago in a heartbeat. And now he is no where to be found to moderate this junk.

Seems like companies say that because they’re trying to show that an Intel-based Mac (the hardware) can run, as long as you have Windows installed (via Boot Camp). It’s really confusing, bordering on deceptive, because many still don’t understand how it all works.

I love you. Thanks for the info.

After waiting a long long time. And spending oh 55k on new computers.
You tend to want to be very specific this time around. And living with a lawyer will make you think the way I do. God is in the details. And I wanted to hear it out of the mouth of pixo!!

But I understand your quick judgment of my words. It’s a problem for many people to react quick and not think that maybe this person has a damn good reason for asking what seems to be a silly question. But we all know there is no such thing as a silly question and I’m not gunnah fear putting my hand up this time.

/me crawls back to his cave and waits…

-peace

What?

I’m sitting at my laptop and get a message that says I love you…
so I rush to the forum thinking GREAT!! some news and…

you guys passing personal messages and just letting the rest of us know you’re pleased??

Oh your so right… Forgive me… I’m a noob.

I like zbrush and I can’t wait for it to come out.

Had to make sure I stuck to topic this time.

so siggraph is over right? vids and info i hope are coming soon.

I don’t think we should use the word “soon” again… lol

Glad to see Aurick did some much needed housekeeping in this thread.
Now bring on some pics or vids!

Yes, me too!

Thanks for that, aurick!

M

Hmmm… Aren’t Pixologic supposed to be doing a more official announcement this week? Although I’m grateful for their ‘announcement’ during Siggraph, which was more like a whisper, I do hope they start making a bigger deal of it now.

i think the wording was ‘soon’…so somewhere between now and Dec 31st 2008!

it would be reasonable in a few weeks…once they’ve settled back from siggraph and maybe gathered some user feedback from siggraph…for possible extras or ammendments to what’s coming along in 3.5.

siggraph is a great way to get to hear/see and speak face to face with large studios and other 3d app creators to help add features along the production pipeline.

by the way, months and years are composed by weeks…
