My vote is that you just further refine the 1st angry snarl. I don’t think it’s too much, it just needs a more tweaking. You’re on track, looking forward to more posts.
A glimpse at another character in the scene that I’m making currently. This one is about three times the size of the hero and will have piercings all over his body. That and all the other detailing of the wrinkles, veins, and scars to come next.
The feet and shoes haven’t been finished out quite yet but we won’t even see them in the final angle…I’ll probably finish them out just to have a complete character later on…more to come!
looks totally badass, nice expression!
i think you’re having some anatomy issues around the knee.
yeah, I’m still working on the lower leg and feet area…final angle won’t even show much of that though, so not my biggest priority.
thanks!!
Its E. Honda combined with Venom!
AWESOME! Great attention to the fatty areas of the anatomy.
Would you mind sharing how you got such a crackled look on the loin cloth? I love the texture.
hehe thanks womball.
The cloth is several layers of work.
-
I used some alphas to mask out an area of tatter and to get the holes around the bottom of a pretty simple cylindrical cloth.
-
Extract that out to another subtool.
-
Beat it up with MalletFast a bit and turn off the alpha for it to get more subtle effects.
-
Claytubes with a circular alpha for tattering the bottom edges all the way around. Takes away the clean look.
-
Got an alpha from the Pixologic alpha library called Alphas_02_0002s_0000_943 or some such. It’s basically a cracky looking stone texture. Displaced them at a low level with dragrect all over the surface.
-
Slash1 for cuts and for breaking up the pattern of the cloth.
-
DamStandard for cutting in more areas around the edges. I also turned on the random spray with a large draw size and got kind of an interesting wear look.
So yeah, lots of work - it maybe a bit much but it’ll look nice in the final product once I layover color and light.
You´ve done some interesting stuff with the anatomy of the pierced guy.
Looks great! I especiall love the open mouth. AAAAAAAAAAH
I´m looking forward to seeing more holes in his body.
Erm… I mean for the piercings of course. Sorry, I couldn´t resist to write that! lol
And I´m curious which mimic your clients will choose for the other guy.
Thanks Sandpiper I appreciate the explanation. I will go home and give it a try. Thanks again!
Here’s the final character that will be staged to the left of the hero in the final shot. The weapon is a placeholder at this point. One of my artists, Justin Wyatt, is working on weapons for me.
I’m going back to the screaming guy next and detailing him out.

Nice one again Jesse !
coooool maan!!!
Nice!!
Thanks guys!
Here’s where I’m at with the other character…I’ve added more details in the upper body for now. Still need to work on the hand detailing and adding appropriate veins and such. That’ll be a whole session in itself!
I still need to do the body piercings and such too but I gotta finish the body detail work first…so much to do…
More to come later this week!

Great work, I am using it for some reference and some inspiration.
Some amazing tension in some of the front muscles and tendons, and the skin folds in the right shoulder and spine on that back shot are amazing. I’m not sure, if there should be a bulging Teres Major and Infraspinatus there though.
Aberrant: Thanks man! Glad it’s inspiring you. I’ve gathered lots of inspiration myself from other artists on this forum for this project too.
Point: Thank you for your crit. The back does challenge me quite a bit with how it flexes and bulges in certain poses. I keep trying to do this pose myself and figure out what’s bulging. I know at least there should be some skin folding and some muscle compression there since the arms are being pulled back far (especially his left one).
The final image won’t show the back so I’m not too concerned about exactness there but it’s always nice to have a complete model for doing a good turntable later on…
progress - starting to add piercings…starting with his ears. I’ll show a full body shot once I’m done piercing away.
Ok, pretty much done modeling this one. I need to move onto final detailing and tweaking on the other characters and then it’s polypainting time!
All colors temporary/placeholding…
